I have low expectations but she's at least not ugly so that shows promise...wherever I'm still waiting weeks after release so I don't get jebaited if it's actually woke.
If any of this is true it's a pile of excrement. But you've already got me disappointed realizing how many excuses no-standards gamers will make. "Hey it aint all bad the chick is hot."

The attractiveness of the female lead is an indication of wokeness, the less attractive they are, the more self incerty it is, look at recent titles for that.
The problem is how they write her, because they gave her the kid, she might go the GTA 4 Nico Bellic route of being stuck in a criminal world to make ends meet or she could a Franklin clone.
As I said, waiting weeks after release with low expectations, I'm kinda hoping 2K is more 'the money, the money matters more than pandering' and they keep the woke in line.

GTA is exponentially more popular than SR and has so much brand recognition going for it that normies will buy it in droves just for that alone. This game is NOT going to bomb like the new Saints Row did.
Some of them may even notice something wrong, but they'll still play. They cry "2023 is the WORST year in gaming!" but they'll buy the games. What else is there to do but consoom?

Idk, farcry 6 tanked spectacularly putting in a female protag. Battlefield 5? Whatever the one was with the cyborg redhead. Battlefield 2042 with the dikecast, Andromeda nearly yanked BioWare there’s plenty of AAA games that killed their franchise by putting in lesbians everywhere.
Far Cry 6 had a lot bigger problems before the female protag even factored into the equation. If we were blaming on that then the New Dawn game that came out right before was far more egregious with its weirdly colored black twin/lesbians on the cover.
Ubisoft is too stupid to try and go full woke. They tried to have a "white colonist abusing a poor brown nation" angle for FC4, but accidentally made the white guy the most trustable and likable to the point where most people came away thinking the natives deserve oppression. Same with FC5 where after a whole game making the Peggies seem deluded and evil, oops they were 100% right all along. I'm told WatchDogs has similar "were they trying to be woke or parodying it? Its impossible to tell" issues as well.
EA's games you are right on though, that was the big sinker for the outset.

Generally the companies get one go where it's woke and everyone buys, but that's always the apex of the franchise and the next entry will drop.
Its GTA, they could have no story at all and sell billions.
The series only matters for the online portion now, and everything else is just marketing buzz.

I'm guessing there's going to be a severe tonal shift between the cutscenes that depicts the protagonist as a reluctant killer who is 100% morally justified in her criminal behavior, and the actual gameplay where you can run over a dozen people on the sidewalk before you get a single wanted level. Oh, and I can't wait for the resurgence of moral panic as GTA will be accused of being a school shooting simulator because there will be a child character in cutscenes. Meanwhile I'm processing newborns into sausages in Rimworld.
At the very least, that's not a new angle for GTA, after 4 tried to do a lot of similar things leading to the same tonal whiplash for a lot of people.
But, at least Nico was likable enough that you could understand his character. I doubt spicy latinX mom will be nearly as compelling or justified.
Niko could also be role-played as a complete schizo whose brain has been entirely rotted through with PTSD and alcoholism, having episodes on his way to go bowling with his cousin. I doubt this girl is gonna be a type-1 bipolar, ripping a girl's weave out because she said "bless you" in a "rude" voice.
It's weird how they want representation when it comes to absolute scum criminals of all things. You actually want to see yourself as that?

If you're going to put a dependent in a game, you'd better make them very useful. Because gamers are ultimately utilitarians at heart, and they won't care about your character at all, and in fact will laugh at their sufferring, unless they're directly useful.

Not surprising -- you can use the attractive model to displace criticisms.
We're already seeing it across the board with people openly defending Rockstar saying "If they went woke, she wouldn't be attractive".
They can't seem to parse the logic that a character can be attractive and the game can still be woke.

Yeah. There are two kinds of woke properties:
We're seeing a lot of Japanese games go the second route to boil the frog. People will point to the first examples as media that is "actually woke", while accepting the media with the second set of parameters.
Every time people accept the second set of parameters, companies will move closer towards the first set of parameters, until people stop opting out.
It's all about slowly pushing the Overton Window ever further left.
Street Fighter 6 is a good example for the second one. People were too busy memeing about Cammy's ass and Chun Li's legs, but when you point out the other ugly characters like Marissa who just looks like a man with a girly haircut, the black drag queen host in the story mode, and the asexual character creator mode, then they just get angry and accuse you of nitpicking.

I've seen similar defences for Spider-Man 2 as well.
As this trend continues there will be more and more people defending woke media; pointing to the first example of a product that's "actually woke" and then reprimanding people for calling the second example woke.
