Every single game forum on steam has "Ukraine localization" topic. You would think there are 3 billion ukrainians.
posted 2 years ago by GuardianGI 2 years ago by GuardianGI +58 / -0

It's especially infuriating when most of these faggots don't even buy the game when the devs decide to finally add their stupid language by checking the "has game" tag.

The people asking aren't Ukrainians, I bet. They're leftist virtue signalers.

They're leftist virtue signalers.

That's literally every single Current Thing™️. A bunch of loudmouth nobodies on a one-way Amtrak to Buttfuck, Nowhere with a suitcase full of broken dreams.

None of these people could find Ukraine on a map if you held a Vepr to their heads.

With how much of my tax money has gone to Ukraine I might as well call myself a citizen.

DayH - Day of the Hohol, is a survuval shooter based on the Ukrainian conflict. In this game you play as a brave Ukrainian recruit who has been separated from "their" squad supplied with endless amounts of advanced Nato weaponry against starving Mongol Russians who have 3 bullets and an AK-47 with a cracked buttstock that they all share.

I'm pretty sure they're just selling their Russian localization as "Ukrainian localization". Who would be able to tell?

How else will the Ukrays have time to attend pool parties?

Ukrainians can apparently get out of the draft by paying 5000-10000 euros lol. So yeah... rich faggot kids get to skip the meat grinder.

10,000 euros in Ukraine is three times the per capita national income. It would be like expecting some family in Appalachia to come up with $200,000 on a whim.

It may be in Europe, but that does not make it a first world country. It was a second world country before 1991 (i.e. communist), but unfortunately, right now the miserable failure of the Ukrainian state over the past 30 years has made it decline into the third world.

Some of us would. ;)

More people would be able to tell if they would learn the language. I actually think no matter what you believe about the war it's worthwhile to try and learn the language.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– AntonioOfVenice 5 points 2 years ago +5 / -0

Now you got me curious. Why exactly is it worthwhile to learn Ukrainian, a bit of a peasant dialect with barely any literature written in it?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– Slav4U 2 points 2 years ago +2 / -0

Well if you know Ukrainian you will understand 95% of Russian as well as a good amount of Slavic family languages.

The point being you will be able to read primary sources rather than others interpretations.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– AntonioOfVenice 4 points 2 years ago +4 / -0

I agree, but why not learn Russian instead? Then you'll be able to read Dostoevsky in the original rather than some Cossack poems.

Either works honestly and you will understand both, though older works will of course be more difficult.

This seems like a lot of noise about nothing. So what if Ukraine gets a localization? So what if it's patriotically motivated? This hurts no one.

If a Ukrainian wants to volunteer their time for free to localize a game, I have no problem with that. But devs have limited time and resources, and using those to increase their player base by a quarter of one percent is objectively a bad idea.

▲ 2 ▼

Yeah they don't usually re-localize English for different dialects, so I'm not sure why they'd do Ukrainian. Most people play games in English anyways, if they understand such. Cuz translated games suck as we know.

Can't remember the game but it had a "we aren't including Russian localization" then one of the 1st patches "we are now including Russian localization"

Which I could remember which game it was since I found it funny at the time

Russia is a huge market, even if many of them pirate, enough don't. And Russia isn't the only country that speaks Russian, notably. There's no "Uzbekistanese", or "Czechoslovakiaish". Even east European countries that DO have a language of their own, they often aren't large enough to justify having their own translation, and so go for a language they happen to also know, and the countries that merely include Russian in their set of common languages is even higher.

Or in short: The move to exclude Russian is for virtue signalling, the move to include it is for rational marketing strategy.

yeah, all of the regions russia "annexed" are 90%+ russian speaking. the next most commonly spoken language wasn't even ukrainian... it's tatar. this whole bullshit was entirely about geopolitical lines being drawn by bureaucrats that didn't match reality, while corrupt shitbags in government embezzled billions from US and EU taxpayers through the most corrupt country on the planet.

They are Russian speaking because they murdered any who resisted reeducation. Still, many local languages exist within Russia and former Soviet states.

Tartar as you note is a big one, but many people forget half of Russia is in Asia with Vladivostok a stones throw from Korea.

then why did globalists puke on elon when he suggested they just run a referendum by the UN?

these people culturally identify as russian, not as ukrainian. the globalists know damn well a referendum would shut this shit down... <1% of the population in these regions are ukrainian.

I certainly can't speak for everyone, by anecdotally every Russian male I know fled. Every Ukrainian guy I know (and some women) stayed to fight.

huh? we're talking about 60 years ago in specific regions of ukraine... not the rest of ukraine that isn't of russian people.

it's why in 2014, putin was able to drive into crimea without any resistance whatsoever... because the people of crimea don't view themselves as ukrainian.

▲ 1 ▼
– Slav4U 1 point 2 years ago +1 / -0

It's really a lot more complicated than that. It's definitely a distinct language, which is odd when much of the rest of Russia is standardized.

Most people have family on both sides and definitely don't want them to get killed.

The Slavic people came from Kyiv, so it might be more fair to say Russia belongs to Ukraine historically.

Regardless, this is an abhorrent brother war that should not have happened.

They are Russian speaking because they murdered any who resisted reeducation.

Then you no doubt have evidence that in the 1910s and before, the population of Donetsk and around spoke 'Ukrainian'?

The USSR in fact engaged in a policy of Ukrainianization. One of the many disasters inflicted on the Russian people by that failed political experiment.

I disagree, because "Ukraine", which means borderlands in Slavic as you well know, did not exist back then. It is a phony country and a phony state which should not exist.

Ukrainians can read Russian just fine, they are essentially the same language with minor dialectal differences in speech.

It would be like asking for a Norwegian localisation in a Swedish game, they already consume tons of Swedish media whereas Swedes do not consume Norwegian media at all.

It's the same way with Russian and Ukrainian, why would you localise for a smaller language when they are essentially identical except for minor differences.

You could go on forever and ever listing world famous Swedish artists but you would be very hard pressed to even get to five if you were to try the same thing with Norwegian artists, authors, actors etc.
