I disagree, because "Ukraine", which means borderlands in Slavic as you well know, did not exist back then. It is a phony country and a phony state which should not exist.

What you are claiming is the same as saying Rome isn't Italian.
"Italy" is a geographical designation, which was used during ancient Roman times. So yeah, there is an "Italy". It does not depend on the existence of an actual country, like Russia, to be the borderland of.
Anyway, Italy is a uniquely bad example as Italy as a state only came into existence during the Risorgimento. I assume you chose it because you thought 'Venice' means that I'm Italian?
