That's the post, really. Basically everyone is saying it's really good and has no microtransactions, etc. Is it worth a buy, or would I be supporting a woke project?

It is woke. I'll provide screenshots for proof. Non-binary options, 5 options of dick, cut and uncut, body types and male and female voices labeled Voice 1 and Voice 2. That's just the character creation. There's no face sliders either, you have the same stock faces. No boob or body slider.
Why you shouldn't buy it is because this isn't Baldur's Gate. This is a Dragon Age game running the 5th edition D&D system. Racial points for races, so Orcs getting +2 strength and Elves getting +2 dexterity? Nope, those are out. Because that's racism. Instead some races get 1 - 3 points to add onto any stat. That was a thing only Humans had, further diluting why bother being human when fantasy races are better.
Second is the removal of Alignment from all dialog. In an example a Tiefling child stole a locket and the owner wants it back. The choice I made was [Monk][Persuasion] Give it back and we all go on with our day. This would have been a good alignment choice but it isn't. You'll get race and class dialog options and skill checks against actions but no actual role playing with alignment choices.
Other things include party members being obnoxious, think the worst of Pathfinder being the standard. Party members also have underwear with sex scenes that make Mass Effect look tasteful. I saw someone use the word "Safe Horny" to describe this game and it really is that. It's got Skyrim mod levels of lewdness added yet it wants that serious Baldur's Gate adventure to draw people in. They want their progressiveness and adventures too. But then they don't do anything with the sex stuff they've added. For example you're infested with a mind flayer parasite you have to roll a few times against but you end up doing nothing lewd with it. This whole game is a mess to be honest.
Never thought I'd see the day when Pathfinder is more faithful to classic D&D than an actual D&D game is. Just because everyone is saying it, doesn't mean you should follow them. Alot of the normies playing it are burnt out from Diablo 4. That should tell you their tastes.
It has a vitiligo slider lmfao
Seriously, what the fuck is with wokies and vitiligo? You'd think half the population of earth has it the way it's represented absolutely everywhere. Does vitiligo have a 2x ESG multiplier?
It's the kind of thing that would, in a PnP game, add roleplaying options. Like, you could give a PC some kind of social penalty, hard to disguise themselves, but easier to cause diversions, etc. But Wokeness demands diversity AND conformity, you have the right to play a hideous freak but never to be TREATED like a hideous freak.
Something simple would be the classic Fallout games where playing a low-IQ character completely changed the game and only let you speak like a retard. That level of immersion and character-building isn't allowed anymore.
It allows trans-racialism without pretending.
It's just the same as 'needing' the ability to make amputees or wheelchair bound people, it's another step on their holy quest to make sure every last person on earth (above white males on the progressive stack) gets to be literally represented in a game, and damn the resource expenditure.
It's a non-issue made political because they always need a new crusade, basically.
I completely noped out of the game once I saw that slider. I was checking out a livestream just to see if I would be interested, and throwaway531 is 100% correct on everything he mentioned.
Body types instead of "Male" and "Female" options, lots of ugly characters, and a bunch of "diversity" everywhere. And that vitiligo slider made me close out the window and swear off the game.
A real shame, because the first Baldur's Gate was one of my all-time favourite titles.
All of this shit was added in after Early Access.
If you hadn't sworn off EA before, now's the time. Companies have figured out they can bait-and-switch in faggotry and social justice on release.
Wait, they only added in the woke stuff after Early Access? That's really scummy.
p. sure the alignment and race changes were mandated by WotC.
It definitely has that Dragon Age issue of "Hi Zevran nice to meet you whoops now we are having gay sex".
Is there a way to bypass all the romance or sex scenes? With all the videos I’ve seen coming from the devs, it seems like sex is their main focus in this game and I would imagine there’s no way around the romance plots because of it.
I also need to mention that I have no plans on playing this game because it looks like it’s a D&D fan fiction writers wet dream and the devs at one point complained about the type of characters their paying customers were creating (white male characters).
This is a Divinity Original Sins game, not a Dragon Age game.
Yeah lol, some dragon age games are good.
Dragon Age Origins is far more comparable to the original baldurs gate games than the so called Baldur's Gate 3. They had very similar mechanics and both ran in real time with pause.
Baldur's Gate 3, mechanically, is just Divinity Original Sins but with a dungeons and dragons coat of paint. It is completely different from the original games that it should not be given the same name with the number 3 tacked onto it. This is without getting into the weeds of how narratively stupid it is to try and continue a story that was completely and utterly concluded in Baldur's Gate Throne of Baal (and by bringing characters back from the predecessor games is pretty much insulting to the source material).
Your screenshots aren't working for me.
This is the game where you can have gay sex with a bear. Need we say more?
I would actually say since it's a DnD game, that's fine. It's always been valid in DnD to use sex.
Baldur's Gate ended with Throne of Bhaal. Everything using the brand after is a cashgrab.
Yup, end of story.
Did you know Black Isle's BG3 was going to be 3E and have a level cap of 5?
I'm not getting it solely because it's not a Baldur's Gate game. It's Divinity Original Sin wearing a BG skinsuit
I think they made Karlach's face better looking but she's still hideously scarred. At least she has backstory for it. Only decent looking chick in the party is shadow girl, and the men are all gay for you five minutes after meeting.
I'm sure the wokeness was the price Sven paid to get the D&D/BG license and he was willing to pay it, which, in the long term is probably the best option for his studio, even if it sucks horribly for us.
To be fair, Skyrim came out more than a decade ago and had fugly women, but modders saw to that... and then some.
Also Bethesda hasn't really ever been the best when it comes to human models in general.
This is my stance and I fucking loved Divinity Original Sin 2.
Yeah I was originally looking forward to the game but I hate wotc and all attached companies and I'm not playing a gay sex simulator
This.
I believe its creators are woke - I think I posted about it on the subreddit a few years back.
Better to pirate than to support wokies, if true.
I value my time too much to waste on wokeshit, even if it's free.
Forget free; I'm not sure how much I'd have to be paid to touch it.
Bad part is the game is fun. That is the worst part of the game, I prefer woke stuff to be Rings of Power level of woke, to the point it is complete shit.
A game that is both woke and fun is how the industry moves further left. First we had romances in BG2, then we had bisexuals in DA:O, then we moves to gay characters hitting on you, now we have gender fluid and probably trans characters that are suppose to be normal in a medieval fantasy world. Medieval worlds now are more diverse and gayer then modern day LA.
The worst part about it is that that's all I hear about this game... all about the gay stuff.
I haven't been following Baldur's Gate in ages, yet whenever it comes across my radar or in feeds, it's always about gay stuff. It's quite telling that the most marketable feature is how gay the game is.
I had to actually go search out livestreams to find out what the actual combat looked like, because not one person promoting the game has said one thing about the actual gameplay.
My guess, the jornos realized this is going to be a huge success so they hype the gay stuff so that once it becomes a success they can then claim that gay content sells and attack the right as impotent pearl clutchers. It would have been a bigger success without the gay stuff but you can't prove it.
I still don't know what type of game Mass Effect is. All I know is that the series has romance options.
You never go full Rings of Power.
Is it still 100% woke if the most of the woke content is still optional?
I thought the main issue with woke shit was when it's shoved down your throat and forced on you. Or when the woke message is so blatant that it permeates the entire experience, making it plain as day how rotten the product is.
Yes, because significant development time went into making that content, rather than making better gameplay, better story, etc.
Have you ever heard of Iceberg Theory? That shit infests the game world even when it's not actively being shoved in your face. It will always float to the surface.
Can you take it seriously, as a setting created with integrity, and feel like you're not being insulted? I can't.
I have played a bit of it. On the high seas of course, yarr harr fiddle dee dee and all of that.
The character customization part certainly annoyed me, and it is a bit obvious that there's not many highly feminine party members. The vampire character was blatantly annoying from the start, there's always at least one in RPG's. The cleric is a bit of a hag, but she mellows out pretty fast. Same with the Geth chick. Didn't spend enough time with other party members to assess.
But it is definitely not of the same style as former Baldur's Gate games, same with previous D&D related titles. And it's not toned down by any means. And it clearly has woke influence in it, I've never denied that. And I can understand why people wouldn't want to bother with it or risk funding WotC and whatever other interested parties were actively involved in incorporating token woke features. Same with anyone who just loathes 5e.
My only thing is that it's a weird case where, because of how much freedom of choice the game offers, not only can players avoid a fair bit of wokeness, but they can actively play it as anti-woke as they want. You hate that vampire guy? Consider getting rid of him. You want to screw over some druid leader who's acting like a total bitch? Go for it. Want to make some characters actually look appealing? Mod it. It actually becomes a fun and therapeutic anti-woke experience. And if you don't want to fund the game, then don't.
Just tired of seeing so many people choosing to be victims. You have a lot of options available. They may not always be the exact options you want right off the bat, but it's your call what ground you want to fight on and how you fight it.
I'd also add that there are far, far greater threats to worry about than just the entertainment-culture side of the war. Threats that barely anyone is doing fuck all to prevent.
Sorry but this is the worst form of concern trolling. It's the... "It's not that bad guys, really".
You're justifying having to make several steps into accepting wokeness to get to the parts that you claim are anti-woke.
By proxy, you're already accepting the woke standards.
Body Type 1 and 2 instead of Male/Female? Check.
Vitiligo slider? Check.
Trans options? Check.
You have to actively avoid certain character interactions if you don't want to end up having gay sex? Check.
Enabling and accepting all of those woke steps to get to the supposed non-woke stuff means they will push even further. You're essentially accepting further moving the Overton Window Left. The next game will take steps even further because you've enabled those previous steps.
Basically, it's like having to walk through a bad neighbourhood full of hoodlums and vandals to get to a semi-decent cul-de-sac, and saying, "Well, at least the cul-de-sac is nice", as opposed to saying, "Ignore the cul-de-sac because it's surrounded by hoodlums".
Being disgusted, voicing that disgust, and holding firmly to your standards is not being a victim.
Even though by deliberately subverting what we care about they seek to victimize us.
If you want to play the game, play it. You don't need to make excuses for setting your standards aside. You don't need to convince yourself that the game isn't so bad, really, because it deigns to let you avert your eyes.
Yeah, there are greater threats. Those threats came about because we let our culture get subverted, and entertainment was a big part of that. The overton window is a powerful thing.
Yes your childhood franchises are dead. But honestly, I think there's a good lesson in that.
I've come to realize that some things run their course and are better left off in the past. Baldurs Gate is gone, so move on.
Star Wars is gone, so is Star Trek, and anything else you can think of. But that's not necessarily bad, it's the way things have always been before our current "remake and reboot" era. Movies and TV would end and stay dead.
We just have to understand that these remakes are zombies, the stuff we liked is dead.
We just have to accept it to avoid falling into traps like "hmmm maybe this new BG ain't so bad..." It's not a Baldurs Gate game.
Again for the people in the back.
I've long been a proponent of letting franchises end. Everyone's so addled that they can only think of "oh man I liked thing, so I want more of thing to be produced so I can consume more of thing", rather than having presence of mind to understand that the thing has concluded and to garner more of it would be not only unwise, but frankly defacement.
They want your feelings for good works to "transition" to their hideous depravity.
You like original trek and next gen trek so you like Picard, even though you would hate it if it wasn't called trek.
But I don't think the answer is those works are dead, rather that the new works are dead. Say you love Baldur's Gate and when they start saying anything about the new one get a disgusted look and say not that crap, you like real Baldur's Gate.
They want to confuse the good with the bad, but that confusion also opens the door for us to shame them any time they talk about it. Yeah you'll be the grumpy old man, but we need more of them.
Exactly. One of the better things that could happen would be to reform copyright. Duration is the obvious one. Give copyright for 20-30 years, and then open it up. No more corporations owning literally every single character created in the past century.
I think it'd also be nice if copyright were less transferable in some way. A big part of the problem is caused by megacorps (Disney) buying up rights long after the original creators stopped using their creation (or living). Copyright exists to protect creators and make it viable to create new things without immediately getting ripped off, not to enable the biggest megacorps the right to buy out all the popular IP and then give them legalized monopolies. If rights are sold this way it should immediately forfeit various protections on IP.
Larian is an excellent studio and the game is probably fucking great.
But wizards of the coast is on my boycott list for being woke fuckwits. So magic and d&d can all go to fucking hell and stay there, forever.
I doubt Larian was against the woke changes but you are correct, a lot of the changes have been from wotc.
Woke as fuck. They even avoid using male/female on disguises.
There is a penis selector but no boob selector. That is trans erasure.
They have bullshit everywhere yet lacks basic features such as:
ability for a party member to make rolls during conversations, but don't worry they will still judge you for it
can't make a custom party without starting 4 instances of the game and joining your own local lobby (save as DOS 2 but at least there your companions were fully custom in terms of classes)
character creator is a joke with more penis option than facial sliders, enjoy your presets cause you can't do much else.
subjective but coming off of the Rogue Trader beta and before that WoTR I really can't like these characters, maybe they get better after a while but they feel like needy whiney children.
It seems pretty woke to me, and I truly wish it wasn't.
I'm honestly a huge Larian fan as I loved Divinity OS 1 and 2, fun games, fun mechanics, and as a relative noob to DnD and that type of roleplaying they really scratched that itch in a casual way for me. I'm not great at role playing things so following along and getting to choose from a few options, or literally just start attacking NPCs as I desire is a lot of fun.
Anyway, with the gay bear sex, the disgusting unnecessary sliders and ability to put a vagina on a male character and penis on a female character, needless to say I am disappointed. I was stupid and feel free to flog me but I bought the game in EA and tried out the intro a long time ago and enjoyed it, and 'trusted' Larian to not do all this dumb bullshit.
I had 2 studios that I would say I 'trusted' before this and that was FromSoft and Larian, and let's just say they fell off the list at this point.
Does FromSoft use "Male" and "Female" still when creating a character or have they transitioned into using the "Type 1" and "Type 2" nonsense as well?
I'm not sure to be honest, I believe for Elden Ring it was the Type 1/2 or a Type A/B thing, unfortunately. I dislike the trend as well and find it very frustrating, but I love MH(also did it starting with Sunbreak) and Souls too much to let that stop me. I do try to monitor for any additional faggotry when playing games but this one has been a point I've had to cede to play some of the series I love.
One of the great things about these two series specifically is that romance or any type of relationship type thing is so far is so far removed from the stories and gameplay that it hasn't really impacted it further than the character creation gender bullshit.
To be honest I am also kind of moving away from games more and more so it may not matter, and there are thousands of old games to play so it is very close to drawing the line.
Gotcha.
I'm in a similar boat. I've mostly only been working through my backlog of games when I do have free time. So I'm not all up to date on a lot of games.
I only played a little bit of Demon Souls; I just didn't find the combat very engaging. So I haven't been keeping up much with From Software's output other than hearing about it in the media.
It's sad times when so many games coming out focus so heavily on faggotry, so it doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much anyway.
Not to shill for FromSoft here, but Demon's Souls (really King's Field but won't count that) is their first attempt at the combat and it has drastically improved by the time it made it to Elden Ring, imo at least. Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring all being unique but being the best or most advanced version of that slow, awkward combat that Demon's Souls has.
Anyway, I will likely start focusing on the backlog myself rather than bother spending anything on new games, plenty of steam stuff to go through that I'd still love to play.
Strong agree on how much 'the message' is focused on these days, staying slightly on topic, BG3 had great potential to really be a better, more RP heavy Divinity 3 and it's a shame we lost that. I know it isn't Baldur's Gate in the way people expect it, but Divinity is a great set of games and has continually improved (and grown) which is likely why it has been infected as well.
How much of this is actually the devs and lead directors wanting this and how much is it translators? I wonder if anyone checked what it said in Japanese really.
No zippertit option 0/10.
Fact is the game is woke and I mean not just woke it is pushing the bar even further. I think I never saw a mainstream non porn game where you could play a FUTA. Everyone that bought this game is supporting this stuff and has no right to cry about more and more degeneracy. Cannot wait for Baldurs Gate 4 will be great to play as a drag queen bard reading stories to children.
I think the reason people buy this like crazy is not brcause the game is particular good. Ot is just good compared to the other available options. The
Larian has Divinity Sins Series and now BG3 Owlcat has Pathfinder Obsidias has Pillars of Eternity Tactical Adventures has Solasta
All of them are woke. I wonder why there are no non woke people aka right wingers creating a non woke alternative.
1000% agreed.
Given the sales and critical success, this gives Lefties even more inlets to be even more woke.
They'll even use this success to say, "See, people support the trans movement" and add even more of that to the next series of games, just like you mentioned.
And this is the worst kind of woke -- it's a lot of woke stuff sandwiched into between what some people call "based" gameplay or whatnot.
This means you're going to have a lot of normies and Conservatards defending the game because "it lets you kill the gay guys at least!", ignoring the fact that the game is loaded to the gills with the globohomo stuff.
It's like swatting away a single fly and calling it a success while sitting in a pile of feces, surrounded by flies.
Marian is definitely woke, but also make pretty solid games that aren’t preachy over overtly gay.
Tbh it gives you all the tools to be woke times 5, but it isn't forced. They give you the option to disable pornographic things at the start of the game. Yeah that one trailer was a marketing stunt, but still this is objectively a pretty good game and the soundtrack is very good. Just roleplay as a non-fag and you should be fine.
It's not as bad as what passes for most modern 'games', but it's still bad. They just cared about making a decent game on top of the wokeness.
Don't go out of your way to support it. They don't exactly deserve your money. But if you want to play it, buying it is probably less supportive of harmful subversion than buying other games would be.
Can't tell you. I refuse to buy any game on release for full price.
