That’s what BIPOC is: everyone except whites. It’s a blatant circumvention of anti-discrimination laws, and there’s no way it would hold up in a legitimate court.

I watched a boss throw out the resumes of every white male one time, not because he personally was biased but because his last hire was a white male so he didn't want the feds or HR giving him a hard time.
The funniest thing is - whites have NEVER been privileged in the US. My friend was working on Wall Street in the 90s. There was always a cap on his career as he wasn’t Jewish.

All race that I am aware of is self-identification, with the possible exception of membership in an American Indian tribe. AFAIK, simply claiming "native American" is a different thing -- something you can do freely. You may not misrepresent yourself as a member of a recognized tribe because that is a legal status.
And nobody is going to say anything, because if you look at legitimate Native American representatives, with paperwork, some of them are white AF.

NEVER disclose your race to your employer. They can't force you, as it is a violation of employment law.
They will try to use other means to determine your race, including code-checking (how you talk), and your name and interests. But, at the very least, don't make it easier for them.
Internet bonus points if you rename yourself Llamar on all of your legal documents though...
If you refuse to identify they assume you’re white and discard anyway.

Why not disclose a wrong race?
Because the department still considers it "buy in" to the racket. Their words. You're choosing to voluntarily participate in the system, therefore they need more funding to support you, also you still get counted in their statistics. They might even be able to punish you for lying if you identify as a different race in other ways, or on other legal documents.
You you don't identify your race, they can't actually use you in their statistics, or rationalize compensation decisions against/for you. And again, if it looks like people aren't participating, it means that their departments shouldn't be funded.

Sure, but bureaucrats commodify people as numbers on spreadsheets. Specifically your employee ID number. They're normally too worthless to do the extra work unless you piss them off. And if you piss them off, you have to make them prove your race; and that's the best part.

On the one hand, anyone who would use this tool is not an employer you'd want to associate with. On the other hand, this is blatant overt systemic (in that they've created a system to do it) discrimination.

There are much better options. I deleted my Linked In account years ago and have had no problem.
I have to admit I haven't got a job in a while, but last time I did it was still send them an application with your resume. LinkedIn has the advantage of people constantly coming to you. I have always done it the other way around.
