I do in fact specifically have a problem with Ariel being black actually. Additionally all of those live action versions are absolute shit. Fuck Burton Alice in Wonderland specifically.

The fired all the 2D animators in 2011 I think. Only one is left. He is the only person allowed to design or color anything for animated characters at theme parks or posters.

Worse even. Disney SOLD all their equipment. The stuff magic was drawn on got sold. They not only would need to train up a new division but also buy new equipment, too.

Woah, did they really?

Oh, that explains so much.

I thought they were still pumping out like, mickey n friends morning cartoons or something. But it's all sold? Talk about eating your seed corn.

It's the ONE thing I will always rant about. I loved Disney growing up, I still love the old movies but the thing I loved died and now someone is wearing its skin.

cartoon work

There's no one left at Disney who knows how to do cartoons.

The "do good shit to earn money while inserting subliminal propaganda when possible" phase is over. Now it's "indoctrinate as many people as possible even if it's losing money" phase.

Burton obviously has a visual talent. But doesn't want to do his own stories. It's kind of a shame because it ends up with him basically ruining animated stuff vs enhancing whatever original story he could get the rights to.

Hahaha, I like how for Maleficent they had to write "not green" on it, since it's actually so close. Also, it's all lighting, anyway. From image searching, it looks like the animated version is more gray, maybe with a bit of greenish tint, but looks much greener if there's green magic fire in the scene. There's plenty of scenes where the live action version looks grey, as well as green when using green fire.

But, as someone else said, it doesn't really matter anyway, since people did have problems with all of those. It's just not as blatant as a race swap.

Wow that is such a weak argument. Also keep in mind that this is like the 2000th race swap in the last few years and people are sick and tired of it. I have a feeling she would be upset if they made all the villains black.

We don't have a problem with Ariel being black.

I do. She's not black in the original, so she shouldn't be black now. It's not rocket science. Only in America would this even be a discussion.

I make exceptions for when a story is produced in a wholly black country. I think there was a Ghanian production of the Iliad, where Achilles was... black. I actually think it's pretty cool if they make productions of the Iliad in Ghana.

Ain't nobody complaining that movies made in Africa use an all black cast. Whoever they are portraying.

When you have white actors available, willing, and you're clearly willing to use them for the bad guys, that's a different thing.

Old white woman is closer to middle-aged white woman than white woman is to black woman.
Helena Bonham Carter will be an old woman one day. Alien-face black girl with eyes 2 miles apart? She won't ever become a ginger.

Because Hollywood hasn't got a problem making whitey the villain, especially if they are Russian or British (which I can forgive, Russians and British know how to play the bad guy or more on the British side, the double agent good guy)

But anyone in a positive role, got to be a minority. Which is funny as it's subconsciously assuming minorities don't have the intellect and cunning to be an effective villain.

For a while, Russia was gonna be our friend and then the villains had to be Jihadis or Norks, lol. Now back to Russians are bad guys.

None of those other design changes were made for hypocritical leftist political reasons.

I'll concede that the raceswapping of Ariel isn't that bad on its own (shitty CG aside), but the problem is this shit is politically motivated and it only ever goes one way, with the sole exception of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, which only happened because Disney cared more about selling the Han ethnostate than they did about acknowledging the existence of the Tibetan people.

Of the three of those I recognize, they were only liked by cringy white girls. Most of them the same woke ass girls that support Black Ariel now. And almost nobody fucking liked the Burton Alice in Wonderland in the slightest.

Its the weakest argument I've seen about this.

They both suck, the problem with the colorblind argument is that its pushed by the cucky comicsgate type people who are too scared to take a stance on race, so they just reframe it as "bad writing" to avoid being called "racist"

Alice in Wonderland wasn’t a “live action remake” in the same sense as the more recent Disney shits, which are just them remaking their own movies but with more “diversity” and an additional feminist song for the lead female, though…? Indeed it was kind of an attempt at a sequel of sorts (edit: to the BOOK, not to the Disney movie specifically), Alice was an adult going back to Wonderland in that one.

But they’re STILL missing the point even if you account for the above, because the actual crux of the argument against is that we know they’re just doing it for attention and woke points. If they randomly made Ariel black in a movie in 2005 you’d get some complaints but it would largely pass unnoticed. More than anything else, it’s the cynicism and transparency of this sort of thing that people are REALLY opposed to, if you reduce it all down to the core of the complaint.

It's not about race, it's about Hollywood's current cult of ugliness. Well, ok, more like plainness, but the point stands. In their change example, we're talking about some of the most charismatic actors ever playing the parts and they're all pleasant to look at.

New ariel is somewhere between plain and freaky. I dunno why am I supposed to spend my cash and my time to look at that. If I want to look at plain, ordinary women I can, I dunno, go outside and gawk, lol.

In one scene, where Drogo “virtually rapes” Daenerys on their wedding night

Which wasn't how the book went.

Clarke recalled how the Aquaman actor made the shoot comfortable for her. “He was crying more than I was,”

Le male ally

said Clarke, who’s starring opposite Henry Golding in next week’s Last Christmas.

The fuck is the relevance of this?

She added, “Because Jason had experience

His experience being a guy on Baywatch who stood around as eye candy.

he was an experienced actor who had done a bunch of stuff before coming on to this

Baywatch and Stargate Atlantis being the most prominent so it's not exactly a prestigious resume.

he was like, ‘Sweetie, this is how it’s meant to be, this is how it’s not meant to be, and I’m going to make sure that that’s the [expletive] gaze.’ He was always like, ‘Can we get her a [expletive] robe? She’s shivering!’ … He was so kind and considerate and cared about me as a human being.”

Again, Le male ally.

Reminder that during GOT when the story circulated about a female character no longer doing nude scenes everyone thought it was about Clarke when it later turned out to be the redhead prostitute that was not only a pointless character already before her sole feature being naked, but was then killed off off screen and nobody really cared.

Which wasn't how the book went.

Never forget GoT turned "not rape" into rape more than once, this being one of the first times.

Another being when Joffrey is lying dead in the tomb and Cersei is so stricken with grief she basically mounts Jaime the second he appears on the page. Not actually that unusual a behaviour for those who suddenly face the death of someone close, even less unusual when it's a mother who has just lost a child and the father appears next to her. That biological urge to replace the now dead investment is stronger than people want to admit.

In the show however Jaime not only instigates but Cersei is actively against it. At first.

Saying that they are widely hated is going bat for them? My point is that the problem is Disney pushing feminism, despite people voicing their dislike. Now, they are pulling the race card because people got tired of their feminism

And just to be pedantic, technically it wouldn't be stealing if the law allowed it
