I played Magic for over 15 years; quite a bit of it competitively. This perfectly exemplifies why I will never go back. Not only are they obnoxiously trying to ram other licensed material like LotR into a game that quite literally already had goblins, dwarves, and elves without any need to water them all down to fit around an unrelated intellectual property, but they then take that a step further, and intentionally drive up political "controversy" about the move by doing intentionally obvious racist alterations of the original material, specifically to be openly racist and "controversial" solely for the PR it generates, and then shove all of that into the game, instead of, you know, anything to do with the game's own material. And then say "like it or leave; we've already got the money of your youth".
Yeah, I started playing just before Ice Age dropped. Fell out in my senior year in high school, couldn't make it to the game store on Fridays because I got a job. The a out 6 years ago I wandered into a game store that opened up and learned about commander. Started playing again up until the commiepox started and the owner suspended game events. Then the owner went full branch covidian and still demands everyone wear fucking masks. I'm sure there are other game shops in the area that aren't run by faggots, but I don't really care to. Maybe I'll do so just to sell the cards I have that are actually worth something. I bought some of those commander precons that have single cards that are now worth more than what I paid for the whole deck.
I think a simple rule of intellectual properties should be "If it would make the original creator roll in their grave, it should be a crime against humanity and be punished via execution"

With many fantasy settings and stories this wouldn't be an issue. But Tolkien was explicit, and his work is crystal clear. LOTR is a mythology of the Britons+Anglo-Saxons meant to stand in for that which was erased by the Norman invasion of 1066-. To change it in this way, then, whether out of ignorance or malice, is repeating the very same thing he was attempting to remedy: an erasure of British culture and ethnic identity. Disgusting and vile.
