The "official" inflation number is out. 9.1 CPI YoY. The worst inflation in 40 years! Remember to thank all Biden voters you know. (www.zerohedge.com)

And that’s just the best they could do after torturing the numbers. True inflation is probably over 20%.

17% by the old method.

What's the old method?

Calculations for the CPI used to be based on a core group of items such as food, energy, services etc. These items were the same year after year so it was a good measure of how the costs changed over time for the same basket of goods.

New CPI uses substitutions, among other things, and assumes that say, if the price of beef is getting to high, people will switch to chicken and pork. They also change around the relative weight of each good again as an attempt to predict consumer response to price changes.

As a result the new variable method of calculating the CPI will, almost always, return a lower % result than the older fixed method. It is of course a total coincidence that this makes the government look better, they are just doing it in an attempt to be more 'accurate.'

If you're interested Investopedia has a good article on the subject.

Most of my cousins (I have a large extended family) voted for Biden and rubbed it in my face when he won. Now I see them on FB complaining about gas prices and how much things cost. I just stay quiet.

Call them out on their shit. Especially if you link to their posts about being proud to be a retard... Er... Biden voter.

Not calling them out is why the right is a bunch of pansy asses.

In my opinion "give as much as you take applies". If you talk shit about a candidate you hate losing, you will receive shit when the candidate you voted for destroys the economy.

Did they gloat about Biden winning? They deserve to be told to take responsibility for rising inflation.

Naw, you just have to do what I did to my mom. Any time she complained about the economy or whatever I just say, “that’s what you voted for”. Those 5 words will instantly stop any political complaint she has. Then again that requires the subject to not be completely delusional.

There are dumb people who made this choice, sure, but I think this transcends stupidity for too many. At this point whether they will admit not or not this is what they want. Their party hates this country and pounds that message on every front. Their radicals are cultish. We deserve to suffer for our sins. Perhaps they just arent used to suffering personally, and got too comfortable inflicting it on others.

Sorry to say that then they are not capable of any independent thought.

MSNBC watchers are the most deluded group of people in America.

That's been my experience with most, they either run to how much better it is than an awful racist in office or directly to MSNBC points. Luckily for me it's not a ton of my family, but one is my brother. I stay out of politics with the cousins I'm close to for the most part, but I can tell what side they are on by what they do. I don't think the cousin who's homeschooled kid who told me Pride month was stupid is rushing out to support Democrats for example.

The age of the midwit.

Too many people are just smart enough to get a credential that looks shiny but they are not smart enough to think about the bigger picture in terms of consequences of policies.

I told a ton of people that there would be severe side effects from all those "stimulus" bills. Every single one of them that was getting some immediate financial benefit from it were all for it no matter what politics they had. It didn't matter if the Covid panic had absolutely zero impact on their income or finances. People really do sell themselves for cheap with no view for the future.

All three currencies are converging toward the same approximate value. It almost makes you wonder they won't use a future global crisis to try and lock entirety of the first world into a single currency.

It's actually higher and will go higher, as intended. Two main reasons; the money printer of the past two years and gas prices, which touch everything, and this admins suffocating energy policy pushing the price up.

At least here in Germany I doubt we'll get another lockdown. The economy is already crashing and they cannot afford further lockdowns.

Retail associations already said they won't go along with the same measures as last year because they can simply no longer afford to do so.

Energy prices have been skyrocketing since last fall. The Ukraine conflict doesn't help but it's primarily because of all the green energy bullshit.

Electricty for consumers is up 40-50%. For businesses it's more like 70% AFAIK. Car gas is up 30-40% (and that's with a temporary tax break). Natural gas I'm not sure because it's so volatile. Current market rate is up 95% compared to a year ago but it was up to 200% higher a month ago but they're not yet passing all of that on because they have to honor existing contracts.
