Where does he get his news from? Why does he think that about Trump? Does he think Biden is a pedophile? If not he's obviously in some kind of left-wing echo chamber. Does he use reddit, or worse, only listen to establishment news? Does he wish the shooter had succeeded and then gone after Biden? Does he consider the consequences of this political violence? Both from the spiritual and the revenge angles. Does he welcome a potential civil war? Speaking of spirituality, what are his morals in general? Does his family go to church? When does he think killing is wrong? Does he believe in bullshit marxist oppressor-oppressee dynamics? ("it's always bad to hurt the poor - it's always ok to murder wealthy elites and their pawns") What does he think of guns? What kind of government does he think we should have? Do all his beliefs agree with liberal orthodoxy?
I know you were just venting not asking for advice and you probably don't care about the guy that much. I just don't think it's possible to be an "apolitical" friend with him anymore. You might be able to save the friendship though if you can get him to be a little more rational. Otherwise for all you know he could be a psycho and you are in danger yourself.

I had no reason to believe a second shooter, but the audio doesn't lie. ~Someone will need to explain it away better than this guy.~ Before I had just assumed the later shots were multiple counter-sniper rounds. They killed Crooks with one but that doesn't mean others didn't take shots.
Edit: I found a response thread from another analyst who convincingly dismisses both the second shooter and water tower theories. The gunshots on some videos sound different because of microphone direction, and the water tower doesn't have a line of site to the stage. u/Kienan u/evilplushie.

If it was a very high shutter speed you'd see the bullet clearly and not a streak.

Everyone is a hypocrite and people who act like free speech absolutists are some of the worst. There have to be lines of commonly accepted behavior, not just in polite society but very basic standards. Everyone has standards. If someone claims they don't want any standards enforced they are either lying to you, or the behavior they are defending (i.e. endorsing the brutal murder of a presidential candidate on live tv) isn't all that bad to them. The only question is where is that line set?

That would be the Christian approach, even though plenty of people here (including Christians) will likely disagree. Civilization has done better the more we structured laws around the 10 commandments. We can't make simple lying illegal, because the government shouldn't have the power to ban any speech before it occurs, but deceit that causes harm is something long thought of as illegal in western tradition, and those kind of laws should be strengthened. Civil law at the very least. Just like no fault divorce and removal of laws against adultery, making it easy to lie has led to moral decay.
