They should produce another Communist propaganda piece lionizing Alexander Hamilton or some equally authoritarian historical figure and making his life an allegory for modern grievance politics. That always works.
Have you seen the sets and size of the casts they put on? These are "artists" and drama kids, so no expense will be spared on making it as grandiose and extravagant as possible and since its Broadway they are given far more leeway on budgets for the sake of optics and showing off to the ultra rich who sometimes show up and bring entourages who might "notice" one of them to kickstart their big careers.
Its ironic because literally any other play in existence comes about under shoestring budgets and extreme crunch pressure.
Same reason why Hollywood is hurting: shit writing by writers who hate half the country, don't know how that half thinks, what they believe in, or what they want in life.
Furthermore, progressive ideology has corrupted writers everywhere, and the cage it puts around people mentally kills their creativity, and warps what writing they manage to produce. This results in shit product no one wants to see, or watch. You see this in every industry, from comics, to publishing, television, Broadway, and movies.
It probably also has something to do with New York city being in economic decline ever since the Covid retardation hit. Last I heard New York, New York wasn't a very good place to be living and a lot of businesses were closing down and real estate wasn't getting rented back out after those businesses left. If that's still the case then there's probably just less discretionary spending across the board and what's more frivolous during hard times than paying through the nose for theater tickets?
Last I heard New York, New York wasn't a very good place to be living and a lot of businesses were closing down and real estate wasn't getting rented back out after those businesses left.
The landlords could always lower the rent, but they would rather let the properties rot vacant than expose how overvalued NYC real estate is.
From what I understand (which is limited) they have financing against the value of the building. The value is partially determined by how much rent is charged. If they lower rentm the building gets re-evaluated at a lower number and then they don't meet the collateral terms for the loan, so they default.
Or something like that, I don't know
Broadway is suffering from the same fate as most industries on the upper crust of luxury. Inflation and the bad economy has made people be less willing or able to splurge on fleeting little pleasures like this. Its the same reason places like Disney World are struggling. You aren't getting something back from the money spent, and the money spent is huge, so its just a foregone conclusion that its not happening.
That's before you even add in the extreme Leftie and Gay nonsense involved, which means even for the people who could afford it the list of plays they want to see is short.
I've seen some progs blame tourism being down over Trump...and that's probably true, but not the way they want it to be. That drop-off is almost entirely the worst, most obnoxiously optics-obsessed libs - The very people who spend money on this trash. They've made a big public stink about how it's dangerous and immoral to travel to America, and now they risk struggle sessions and ostracization if they do.
But, it turns out, theater is so gay and expensive that it required an entire planet's worth of rich libs to prop up, since nobody else was interested in a play about Jean-Jacques Dessalines' secret gay crossdressing lover or whatever, let alone at $1000+ a night between tickets and a single night in a hotel. So, they did it to themselves, by making it uncouth in their own circles to travel to the cities they have these plays in.
So fuck the overgrown theater kids. They shit on this plate, now they gotta eat it.
Also worth pointing out that lefty tourists are avoiding these cities because they are, in fact, dangerous. Lefties would never admit it because that would be racist, but that doesn’t mean they won’t glom on to any other (politically correct) excuse.
I'm an unashamed classic musical enjoyer. Hell, I've even see Cats (not the movie) and I didn't hate it.
I haven't seen a musical from probably the last ... 20ish years that I've thought was very much good. All the music sounds identical. I walk out of Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables or The King and I or, hell, even Spamalot, and I'm humming some of the tunes. I've heard several musicals recently where minutes after I couldn't hum a single tune or tell you a single lyric.
I also think that race quotas have led to some inferior casting and, when not inferior, some casting that just doesn't fit for the part. I saw the traveling cast of Les Miserables recently, and it was a pretty enjoyable show, but some characters--most notably Enjolras--were just really weak voices and acting for the part.
Take a movie musical like The Music Man. The lead male, Robert Preston, is not a mincing, effeminate Broadway actor. He has masculine energy. His type is rare to find today.
The music sucks. The writing sucks. The casting sucks. It's not rocket science.
They'll keep announcing the newest blackwashed characters they've added to a desperate adaptation of some Hollywood hit movie they're trying to piggyback, thinking they're owning the haters and making an artistic, virtuous stand while patting themselves on the back and ignoring the fact that nobody asked for it and they aren't selling any seats.
They'll internalize the disappointment and failure, blame it on Trump and white people, and continue believing that when New York becomes a communist stronghold, they'll still have their chance to shine because plays are an important part of life in the commune.
I went to a Broadway show when I lived in NYC. I don't remmever what it was called. I do remember a delicious Japanese udon shop I went to the next day though.
250$ market price per person and I don't even remember the name lol. Broadway.
What's currently playing on Broadway? 27 shows plus 14 empty theaters. Right off the bat, it seems like they have have over-extended. I don't know. Maybe 14 empty theaters is fiscally sound?
Let's look at random ones that opened after 2015, because they're still doing Book Of Mormon, Chicago, Lion King, Moulin Rouge!, etc.
& Juliet: Broadway's anachronistic jukebox musical that explores what would have happened if Shakespeare's Juliet had decided to live her life after Romeo dies
"We have Wicked at home"
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Unwanted stage spinoff. Hell's Kitchen: An Alicia keys bio where they can use an existing soundtrack. MJ: A Michael Jackson bio where they can use an existing soundtrack. Oh, Mary!: What if Mary Todd Lincoln "madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic." Charming... Six: "pop-concert-meets-history-lesson celebration of Henry VIII's ill-fated wives" Temu girl-power Hamilton. And Hamilton sucks. Stranger Things: The First Shadow: If Harry Potter can do it, so can we!
I'm actually pleasantly surprised. It's less subversion than I expected. It's more uncreative attempts to ape existing properties/discographies to attract existing fans. Seems like they're making the exact same mistakes that Hollywood did. Trying to follow The Formula or rid on the coattails of an existing "franchise" to attract a new audience that doesn't exist. You're not going to convert the people who watched Stranger Things into regular theatergoers. You're just going to chase your existing, dwindling, audience away even faster. And like has been said elsewhere in the thread, the same massive budget inflation. With smaller audiences and big budgets, I bet ticket prices haven't been going down either. Just a guess.
Our society is predominantly run by retarded theater kids with too much power and influence, so the only people actually on Broadway after the purges of all dissident thought (and non-homosexual orientation), are effectively the dregs of the industry.
They should produce another Communist propaganda piece lionizing Alexander Hamilton or some equally authoritarian historical figure and making his life an allegory for modern grievance politics. That always works.
Not if they don't add pedo shit. Not adding pedo shit makes it too problematic for the modern audience.
Don’t forget to race and gender swap him. Oh also, if there’s any way to make it offensive to Christians, that’s always a hit.
And make him a nig and rap!
What we really need is another Leo Frank play (Brought to you by the ADL OFC) or another play about how great Weimar was!
$17,392,000 per musical since 2020?
It's a PLAY.
The hell are you spending eight figures on?
Consulting AKA money laundering maybe?

You can say "faggot" on the internet. It's fine.
Having been a theater kid once myself--and I still love to act--no, I didn't know how much Broadway overspent.
Seems they really are a mini-Hollywood, complete with money laundering.
Don't forget the race quotas.
I was a music kid, not a theater kid, but hey, solidarity.
Music kids have to read music and learn to play an instrument.
Don't compare them to theater kids.
Unions. Royalties. NY Rent.
Why anyone would try to accomplish anything in that city is beyond me.
You'll get your rent when you'll fix this DAMN DOOR!
Corruption.

It's because they have insurance for empty units. It came out in the menugate saga.

Jerry Seinfeld: That's a shame.

I have a feeling the invaders have no interest in musicals.
Broadway HATES normal White Americans who travel to NYC.
Even the picture is deceiving. All non-trans Whites? Have they not gone to a broadway show in 20 years?
Truth.

Broadway shows are made for a European populace of a certain class level or direction. No shit they're losing money.
The new denizens of New York City aren't much for musicals I imagine.
Adapt or perish, Broadway.
I went to a Broadway show when I lived in NYC. I don't remmever what it was called. I do remember a delicious Japanese udon shop I went to the next day though.

Broadway is where the Snow White failure Rachel Zeiger made money when she fucked up the movie.

Probably what happens when the people you cater to are mad that you don’t have men in dresses making out for 90 minutes straight
