Lefties love stds
I used to know plenty of people that were into TNG, DS9, etc.
I've never met a single person "in the wild" who watches Discovery. Literally, not a single person. I have met some who watched Picard, and the response is almost always "Well, it's so nice to see the gang back together again..."
Star Trek is dead at this point. What remains is unrecognizable to what we loved and largely indistinguishable from Star Wars.
Apparently Picard season 3 isn't complete shit. I'm still not watching it though.
Modern media is usually awful, and wears the name of the old like a skin suit. On top of that, the bar is so low that stuff that isn't complete shit (but still bad) seems good and people rave about it. Like I'm sure Picard season 3 is about a 5/10 at best but in comparison it's like a gold mine compared to season one and two.
It was around that time that all the normie right wingers in the "culture war" sphere on Youtube (like Nerdrotic, Critical Drinker, Az, and the like) started shilling for Picard season 3, that I unsubbed from all of them. Previously, they had been telling people to stay away from Picard, rightfully mocking it with how bad it had ruined star Trek, and pointed out what the writers, producers, and actors had been saying (the usual "fans are racists if they don't like our humiliation ritual slop"), and yet, they all turned on a dime, ready to support "currrent thing", because it injected all manner of "remember when..." and fan service, which they previously had lambasted in other shows which tried to do the same thing, manipulating people to try to bring fans back. Keep in mind, too, that these are the same morons who think we'll win the culture war "when the money runs out", and even though they admitted in their own reviews that the same people who created seasons 1 and 2 were still at the same company making season 3, they were still telling people to consume product.
I felt like I was taking crazy pills seeing them all contradict themselves. When I tried to voice this in the comments, I got dog piled and gaslit, from a community that used to pride itself on being "red pilled".
Yeah I follow those guys but I don't agree with them 100%. Every now and then Critical will promote some movie that is clearly woke trash simply because it isn't as bad as what we're used to. That's not enough for me (I no longer have time to watch every movie so I can be picky if I want and grrlboss movies are hard next every time now) but everyone is different.
If grifters were a threat to the system, they wouldn't be allowed to speak. There are many people who've been permanently banned on YouTube for speaking the real damning truth. Any grifter whose income is reliant on the very system they supposedly deteste cannot possibly be an effective critic of it.
I honestly just wish anyone who dislikes the culture war would stop paying grifters any attention. This whole culture around people saying things on the internet and making money off of saying things is part of the whole problem.
The people I listed, I'm pretty sure, do know the verboten subjects. There were several occasions in their live streams where they broached into verboten but relevant topics, began to stray outside the curated boundaries, stopped themselves, and then changed the subject.
This means they should know that the ideas and solutions they're advocating are false. The biggest, is that they still advocate that what we're seeing is due to greed and incompetence. While those do play a part, they're in service to the true motivation, which is malice. Not only are their conversations sticking within the curated confines, their judgments are as well. I'd argue that a lot of red pills can still be dispensed even on censored platforms like Youtube. You can't talk about true causes to problems, but you can talk about all the ancillary effects of those problems, connect the dots, make sound judgments, and refute false information.
However, these grifters are sacrificing accurate discourse for money, truth for greed. Good people don't do that. It means they're untrustworthy. We have enough liars as it is.
Drinker put out his "review" before season 3 even released. He had a little exchange with the showrunner on twitter.
I don't know what's sadder: getting 'paid' in twitter chats to shill garbage, or shilling garbage for free because senpai noticed you.
I also don't get why people were falling over themselves to praise the S3 showrunner. He was, like, a grip or something on Voyager and everyone was acting like he was the second coming of Ron Moore.
Yeah, exactly. I watched Season 1 of Discovery. I was willing to give it a chance, and it's true that most Treks started slow in season 1. (It's also true that most Treks had some EXCELLENT season 1 episodes. This was not true of Discovery.)
No, it got worse as it went on, and I only made it a couple of episodes into season 2.
Likewise with Picard, I gave it a shot. It just kept getting dumber. It wasn't that it was bad so much as it was DUMB. So I quit after season 1. I'm pretty much done with live action Star Trek, though I do enjoy Lower Decks and I'm rewatching Ds9 right now.
I do know a couple of people who watched S3 of Picard, and it's exactly what you said. It's like a victims of abuse coming back for more and being grateful for the scraps off the table.
Lower Decks was surprisingly fun. Hated the first two episodes--which is where the trailer got all its footage from--but it really picked up after that.
I only saw through the end of season 3, though.
Never trust anyone who says that shows change.
If they're stupid enough and with bad enough taste to watch dogshit for 2 seasons, they're not someone whose opinion I can trust if it's any good now.
I met a Discovery fan. He was an older guy and very liberal. He insistented that the people who didn’t like Discovery just couldn’t appreciate that this was Star Trek for a new audience and that they should stop being babies and stick to their old Trek if they must.
Ok I will.
Discovery fans don’t truly like the show. They’re just invested in it being successful.
The only kind who could possibly like it are the types that don't actually pay attention to what they're watching. They sit on their phone doing something else and only look up at the screen when a moving musical score or action scene starts. The show's beats are designed to push the emotional buttons of people like that.
I'd argue, in addition, that anyone watching a show like STD are the kind of people who consume mainstream news, and unironically believe every word.
These are the kinds of people who can be convinced, within 24 hours, that BLM can riot, not have to social distance, and not have to wear face masks, during the whole Covid scaredemic, because the news told them so, where previously, they had been convinced that anyone not social distancing and not wearing a mask wanted to kill everyone's grandma and genocide the people of the earth. Then, when the BLM riots stopped, the news did a complete 180, again, and now anyone not social distancing and wearing face masks were literally Hitler.
These kinds of people are so detached from reality, logic, and logical consistency, that they couldn't see a contradiction if it shot them in the face. Their ability to reason has been stripped from them. They're the NPC meme personified.
I'd also argue that there has to be an environmental factor to this, as this phenomenon has clearly gotten worse over time. There's probably something (or many things) in our food, water, and medicine which is making people more docile, stupid, and accepting of brainwashing.
Among many things I'd place some of the blame on curated social media run by leftist soys in Silicon Valley. The obsession with censorship has been rampant ever since they lost the Narrative in 2016, so if that's how you learn what happens outside your monkeysphere that's your permanent view of the world. A world where Trump is Hitler and AOC is doing her best to save us from Capitolism and racism.
Even that aside, social media and whatnot has degraded the attention span of anyone who never had the chance to grow up without a phone screen in their face
I’m convinced it’s mostly this. They’re aware that the wrong sorts of people DON’T like NuTrek and so, like much to their lives, they virtue signal and insist NuTrek is the best ever. They just do it to pwn the CHUDS, and don’t actually bother to support Discovery. If they did, the show would be doing much better.
Yeah, I'm of the firm mindset that people like this would loose their fucking minds and be the first to call for it's censorship if they went back and watched the original.
And with 'new audience' they meant the tumblr crowd.
Exactly the same experience. 1:1 comparison.
It's the progressive leftist way. Infiltrate an institution, kill it and then wear its skin like a costume. Then get mad when people point it out.
It won't for much longer. Last season. And at no point did it bring them success and profit. Also, their Klingons were literally blackface. The actor who played the first season's bad guy (that onyx-black lizardlike Klingon) died recently. He was fucking white.
Imagine thinking this is still about profit.
I do think the pitch was, "this will expand the Modern Audience and only a couple of Nazis will complain! Free money!!!" The fact that this hasn't panned out at all is causing a fair amount of stress to the system.
The original Klingon concept for STD was that they were gonna be an allegory for white nationalism. You'd never know it today, because they drew their idea of white nationalism from flavor-of-the-month Dem propaganda at some point in 2017. It's unrecognizable without having it spelled out for you by 2017 Twitter's "trending" section.
Meanwhile, wasn't their entire conflict stemmed from the bitch MC destroying a Klingon vessel on sight?
It was a combination of her executing the Klingon cult (?) leader instead of taking him prisoner, STD Klingons being written as lunatics, and STD Klingons accidentally being written as heroes who recognize the existential threat their shitlib neighbors pose to their culture.
Star Trek died after Enterprise. Some might say before, but at least Enterprise wasn't ... this.
Just like I've been saying Blizzard died in 2005 with the closing of Condor/Blizzard North. They made the games, Blizzard Irvine used to make the marketing, promo stuff and the CG.
But that's a topic for another thread, so I'll shut up here.
The reason I brought it up in the first place was Paramount used to own it, and they seemed to care about it. CBS has it now, and the person who owns the rights apparently fucking hated Star Trek, so is happy to watch it burn, and is unwilling to sell it to someone who cares about it.
"But bro, Strange New Worlds is better. It's got Spock and Capt Pike."
And it's got a bull dike steering the ship. I didn't make it through the first episode.
When it came out somebody here was like "guys you got to check out Brave New Worlds it's like Kirk trek watch it!!"
Told him to fuck off until like season 2 at least... can't get fooled again.
And wouldn't you know, turns out it's got Emo Spock and gay dance episodes.
I knew STD was going to be shit from the jump, because when they announced the show the first two pieces of information they released were that it was going to star a diverse stronk black wahmen and "of course there is going to be a gay character".
Nothing about the setting, characters, ship, story. Those two things are what was important to them. Told me everything I needed to know and stayed as far away as I could.
Named Michael no less. I really think they had some old script where originally the main character was supposed to be a male and they just dusted it off, shrugged their shoulders and recast the part as a female.
Original STD showrunner (and gay man), Bryan Fuller, worked on some great episodes of DS9 and Voyager. He also has a weird thing for giving female characters male names. Shrug.
Thought it was already dead. :')
It was, but they like to puppeteer the corpse in front of you for that last bit of humiliation.
I'm rewatching DS9 right now. I'll never watch these modern Star Treks. They're trash.
I couldn't even finish the first fucking episode.
It's a shame, too. Visually, there's some things to like. Modern Trek, without being "Modern" Trek, would be fun. This could have been that, but isn't. Instead it's gay and trans and lame. Man, it pisses me off so much. I love sci-fi. Modern entertainment is gay, but it seems like modern sci-fi is especially gay.
Also, is the redheaded actress sick or something, or just fat? Because oof. That's not what she used to look like, and I'd say it's crazy the studio let her get away with that, but for all I know they encouraged it. She looks ridiculous and out of place.
The fat ginger is still around and fat? Nice! I recall how much of a joke it became when she bloated up between seasons.
I just posted this in another comment, but look at this picture. She looks completely out of place. And her proportions make her look like either a dwarf or a giant, depending on perspective and framing.
She was always fat afaik.
She was never exactly slim, and they always dressed her weird and gave her bizarre hair, but she was nowhere near what she looks like now. It's especially noticeable in her face, which now is clearly very fat.
Here she is in season 1. Compare that to even season 3 Or whenever this was. Or this. And so on.
Oh wow I must have retroactively stored the supersize version of her in my memory but you're right she really let herself go.
Back in the day an old tv exec could grab a woman by the arm after the shoot and say "you're getting too fat, if you don't slim down in 3 months we're going to drop you." Can't do that now.
I stuck with Discovery until Captain Lorca was revealed to be some evil duplicate from the mirror universe, and then I noped out. It was painful lasting as long as I did.
Holy fuck, the chick that plays Tilly completely let herself go.
I tapped out on STD when the "good guys" strapped a bomb to a dead body.
You're referring to 'Silly Tilly'?
Worst character in the entire Star Trek universe.
When the show was first announced I was gonna give it a chance until they couldn’t shut up about diversity then the case posted a photo taking a knee to honor Kaepernick. On top of all that it was a prequel. Could’ve had a diverse crew and moved forward where the have a mission to explore a new galaxy
I enjoyed the first half of season 1 a lot, when a White-passing jew was the captain. He had a fun, serious character and some badass moments.
But also I was less sensitive to the gay commie narrative pushing 5-6 years ago. The production values are pretty amazing and the show gives the same kind of satisfaction as watching a giant burning pile of money.
I noped out a couple of eps at the start of season 4 because it was all agenda, all the time.
Yeah, season 1 was still woke and gay, but still had some good moments. And, yeah, white male captain was the best character...so of course they did him dirty. Very predictable.
It's impressive you made it all the way to season 4. I suffered through season 1, and an episode or three of season 2, as I recall. If you're saying season 4 was even more woke and obnoxious, that's pretty amazing. STD (lol) was never good; if it got worse, it must be a truly spectacular mess right now!
All of these subscription services are essentially communes. There is no market force from advertisers, dvd sales, etc - all income is merged together and distributed by the party. Grifters can move in, make things that no one wants, and as long as they can convince the party chairmen to give them funds, they keep going. The model might be viable as a privately held company (monarchy equivalent) where a strong leader has a vision, but a typical public company is way too susceptible to c-suite bandits and subversives.
Like all communist systems, they'll eventually switch to fascist dictatorships or collapse.
I haven't watched this show but is the Michael Burnham character Spock's half black sister that is smarter than every Vulkan despite being human? And also she is super strong and beats the crap out of Klingons? I used to get bits and pieces of info about the show when I used to watch Nerdrodic. I feel like I would punch a hole in my TV if I ever sat down and watched this crap.
Criminal that it has more seasons than TOS and ENT.
