As someone who is a professional translator, the people complaining about retarded woke localizers in anime and video games are right way more often than not. And not having specific training in creative writing doesn't invalidate that assessment. It's almost always as simple as actually understanding Japanese enough to notice that the original doesn't match up with the localized version. No experience in other fields needed.
