So normally when I make one of these I post various pics from the comic but since I'm reading these on the high seas anyway I figured I'd be an extra grumpy bastard and actually link the entire thing for people here to suffer through.
Note, use an ad-blocker. Seriously.

Basics: It's a Picard prequel comic when he's at the academy set in 2325 decades away from any show material.
It's written by Sam Maggs. Yes, that Sam Maggs.
I was expecting the comic to be shit. I was no disappointed, the cover alone shows the modern woke trend of "diverse" characters, and why the fuck one of them is wearing glasses is anyone's guess since that's all but eliminated with the exception of a rare allergy to the modern cure which was the reason Kirk needed reading glasses.
I was expecting blatant pandering and shitty references to occur. Again I was not disappointed. Picard not only doesn't like tea [yet], but when offered it he is warned "Careful, it's hot." Oh Sam you retarded wetwipe, that line wasn't anywhere near as witty as you thought it was nor however much anyone then praised you for it.
The dumb cameos don't help things either.
For anyone wanting to further lose brain cells you can check what other works have been done by Sam Maggs. The tl;dr is Captain Marvel, Critical Role, and My Little Pony.
I. Shit. You. Not.
Really does come across as an actual agenda considering the other times Maggs has been posted about here:

I think the only time I ever saw one of them actually just get thrown out of the industry was Chuck Wendig, who after Disney fired him dropped his output to near zero minus a book in his own personal series and a literal writing advice book.
Which, to be fair. Even the wokest shit rarely reaches a level of bad like Wendig did, so apparently that's the barometer.
If he had slapped on a wig and did the lipstick-on-a-pig routine he would have gotten hired again. Not even joking, either, given the thread we're posting in, rofl.
Being a fuckin' white male didn't help him either.
BRRRAP
There's also Chuck Dixon, who now works for Vox Day's Arkhaven.
Check out My Sister Suprema, it's a decent book.
What happened to or with Wendig? I thought I hadn’t heard his name lately…
Basically nothing. He seems to have faded into irrelevance, as his output since is a fraction of what it was and basically all cheap, easy to publish original works instead of major licensed properties.
That's why he is the perfect example of what should happen to these people, and also the only one that ever happened.
What an incestuous cesspool the entertainment industry is. There's millions of people that can shit out better writing than what these supposed "professionals" can do.
It's all about just giving their buddies money to help destroy our culture.
The same Sam Maggs that pretty much killed/gimp the KOTOR remake?? Lawl. The same Sam Maggs that claim being tea bagged in gta5 is same as rape? Lawl.. seems this bitch just fails sideways or fail upwards.
Cronyism and failing upwards, fucking hell man.
Lol I read the comic. What drivel. I can't even tell what happened at the end unless a page or two is missing. But sure Picard starting a fistfight over a video game is very in-character for him...
I can see that being handwaved away as either "hE's YoUng!" or referring to the time in TNG where it showed the brawl he started with a Nausicaan that ended with him getting stabbed through the heart. Then again that episode was written by Ronald D Moore of the rebooted BSG fame which isn't exactly an endorsement since he decided to end a sci-fi show by having the show go full luddite and literally flying every piece of technology into the sun 🙄
Tapestry? But...that's one of my favorite episodes.
Then again, I liked Gail Simone and Mark Waid's work, too, before they lost THEIR minds. The latter wrote Kingdom Come and Irredeemable, which are still two of my favorite comics ever.
Irredeemable has a quite a rocky ending and occasionally gets overshadowed by Incorruptible. The basis for why Tony snaps was very grounded and one of the better "evil Superman" inspirations but it feels like Irredeemable lasts just a bit too long with its 37 issues vs the 30 for Incorruptible.
It's not just that the writing is trash, it's that they clearly aren't fans, have zero knowledge of the property, and aren't even willing to bother with the slightest amounts of research.
On only the third page, they have this art, depicting the Earth-Romulan War. Specifically, they specify this as being the "Battle of Cheron".
All those Federation ships are ships that never appeared in even TNG until the First Contact film. I know this despite only being your bog standard Star Trek fan. I'm not an expert on it; I don't run a Wiki for it; and certainly no one pays me to write/draw content for it.
So, I went and looked it up. They are Akira Class vessels, that didn't enter service until the 2370s.
The Earth-Romulan War is listed as having been during the mid 2150's, through 2160. The Battle of Cheron apparently took place at the very tail end of the conflict, in 2160.
Kirk's era (as a captain) starts around 2265.
Thus, not only is the Earth-Romulan war ancient history before the Akira class showed up, you should be seeing ships more than a hundred years older than the Constitution class (entered service in the 2250's) "Enterprise" ships everyone is familiar with from the TOS Kirk era Star Trek.
It's just so fucking tiresome seeing these stupid ass radical leftist / SJW activists taking control of every property, not giving a single fuck about it, and then proceeding to destroy it as they use it as nothing more than a vehicle for their activism.
This female (I'm using this in lieu of "woman" now, as apparently it makes them "the big mad" when "incels" refer to them as this), in particular, is a spectacular piece of trash that delights in destroying the things you love.
To be fair, barely, I think that's more to do with the art being so shit that's how the NX design from Enterprise came out in this comic.
The same ships shown later on page 17 are even worse given the angles the nacelles sit at. No ship in Star Trek has ever looked like that.
The other ships present on the Federtaion side are the orange Tellarites and blue-ish Andorian ships that vaguely look like the Kumari from Enterprise, again with shit art. Doesn't appear to be any Vulcan ships however despite those being the most advanced in tech out of the founding Federation members at the time.
It appears I was wrong, and their art is depicting NX class ships. Thank you for the correction.
In my defense, it's hard to tell, as some of the ships are drawn so badly, it's hard to tell if the nacelles are supposed to be above (NX) or below (Akira) the centerline of the ship.
Thinking those abominations are the Akira is a very understandable error as the art really is that bad and the Akira does match the NX in a lot of ways.
The comic site lists this comic as the only/[first?] work by the artist, Ornella Greco, for better or worse.
https://readcomiconline.li/Artist/Ornella-Greco
JFC I'm not a fan of the original NX design but those drawings are utter trash. They could have taken the ultra cheap route and simply traced over existing ships or models as it's something comics have done, blatantly, for years.
And what the fuck are those Romulans ships? They had warbirds at this point which were far more recognisable!
Will there be triggering, eerely-realistic air-humping 2 feet apart scenes with clothes on?
"Gizortnik! Have you seen the new Star Trek?" soyface
"No, I abandoned the franchise years ago."
"But why?"
Picard season 3 is basically a great TNG movie. I watched it without the bullshit seasons before it. It was really good.
The problem I have is that even if the writing is good, I can't see any of those actors as anything but Twitter idiots any more. They aren't Picard or Troi or LaForge -- they're fucking Patrick Stewart, Marina Sirtis, and LeVar Burton and they're all utter morons.
I am more wtf with all the actors playing BIPOC parts that just decided to identify as the same untraditional manner. The people trying to be kind to their coworkers... I give them a pass. But, how simple minded do these kids have to be to take a part on a scifi show, and decide that's what you have always wanted to be?!
I was reading the article's that were calling them inspirations, and thinking they needed to be checked out mentally. Remember Lady Gaga had just went crazy making that movie? But, because of the topic they got cheered on.
That isn't really an endorsement, though. For the Picard show to be successful it needed to go back to being TNG since the first seasons were that bad. The first season literally rips off Mass Effect 1 plot wise!
I agree. I endorsed season 3 as being worthwhile, while saying I skipped the trash, and it wasn't needed.
I see this, and am almost tempted... but then I think to myself, "Is it really good in the broader scheme of historical media, or only really good compared to all the woke nonsense we've been shoveled the last decade or so?"
The latter. Consider that in order for a Picard series to actually be good they had to step back and do TNG again.
I skipped everything but this season. Idk if you know, but screen rant writes articles that are good, and detailed summaries. I used to read TNG books in high school, so reading episodes of any show never bothered me
My favorite scene.

It says a lot that even RedLetterMedia liked that season.
I would even watch it again.
Maybe. Frankly, I'm so burned out on their bullshit I can't bring myself to give a shit even if they actually managed to pull something off. It seemed far too pander-y to me. "LOOK LOOK LOOK WE BROUGHT BACK THE ENTERPRISE D! THEY'RE GONNA FIGHT THE BORG! YOU LOVE THAT SHIT DON'T YOU! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!"
At a certain point, I just have to let it go and move on.
The man who plays Riker was the director. I liked it, and I hope of you're bored you give season 3 a chance.
Btw they were fighting borg because they gmo'd Picard. His son was borg but didn't know it. You'll have to watch to find out who the mom is if you can't guess.
He already had a son he didn't know about (or, clone he didn't know about) in one of the last movies.
Johnathan Frakes is fine director, but I don't trust any of the writers.
I got a feeling I might.
Thanks for the heads up. I do need to add some Star Trek comics to my collection. I have some of the 80s DC comics and quite a few books from OT to Enterprise I know what to avoid. Thanks again
If you don't already have it I would strongly recommend Debt of Honor
https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Trek-Debt-of-Honor-Facsimile-Edition
TOS era "comic" that's more of a mini novel as it ends up being 100 or so pages of a single over arching story that takes place from before TOS to some point after Star Trek 4. It's very much non-canon in a lot of places like the ridgeless Klingons being an actually genetic distinct group from the ridged ones, and the Farragut is shown to be a Constitution class ship rather than what the SNW show has created, but overall it's still just a very good Trek story which isn't too surprising since it's from the 90s and written by the lesbian fetishist himself, Chris Claremont.
Thanks!
I have a physical copy of this somewhere as well as a TNG story I haven't ever been able to remember the name of that involved a water planet being evacuated. Both were some of the first non live action Star Trek and Wars media I grew up with. TMP era Star Trek ship design is still my favourite, minus the Oberth/Grissom because open spaces inside ships is just dumb, and seeing more of the TMP setting in Debt of Honor was always something I enjoyed.
Also the bits with the whales were a nice feature in the story.
Whaaat? You don't want to maximise the ship profile and hull surface area so a single torpedo would do catastrophic damage to pretty much the entire ship at once? 🤔
And some people wonder why I like the DS9 Defiant so much 🙃
Tough little ship.
:o
His taste for tea needed an origin story too? Jesus Christ these woke retards really exemplify NPC programming in every aspect of their lives.
This is why I hate any kind of “prequel” material. Writers feel the need to give a backstory to literally EVERYTHING. I checked out of the Han Solo movie when they decided to explain the name “Solo.”
Newest issues tries to give a backstory to the Picard Maneuver, despite it being described for a long time as something Picard comes up with in the heat of the moment. He even gets an award after using it with the Stargazer, something set decades after this comic series but Maggs and other writers in general can't help but worm their ways into decades old franchises and shit all over the display cases.
Would recommend Kirkman's current comic, Fire Power, for those looking to read something good. That site in the OP has the issues released so far and the prequel which obviously should be read first. I could never get into TWD, comic or show, but I have greatly enjoyed Kirkman's other stuff.
I didn't bother watching Picard until season 3. Which can be watched like a great TNG movie, no bad 1 or 2 required. Posted about it in c/startrek. It's not very busy you can find the articles / clips easily of you're interested.
They fixed the stupid, and it was wonderful. Are you telling me they put stupid back?! I'll be grouchy with you.
Never read that many Star Trek comics, but I can only give the highest endorsment for Spock: Reflections. Not gonna give out any spoilers other than it's basically about Spock and Picard having ... "the talk" ... on Veridian III. It's the rare kind of fan fiction that actually improves the canon. IMO.
Which?
"eerily realistic rape"
Oh boy does this either age extremely well or poorly considering what happens to Picard in issue 3.
