Hot Wheels movie will be emotional, grounded, and gritty. Who is this for, who wants gritty Hot Wheels? (archive.vn)

My two youngest nieces still play with barbies all the time. But that's a sample size of two. I can't recall if the older ones did the same when they were younger.

Who is actually going "Yes, I want a feminist take on an iconic American doll franchise that literally nobody buys anymore except maybe a 5 year old girl that embodies the pink stereotype"?

A shockingly large amount of women, who don't care about any of that but love the "pastel" the art style is going for, as well as Ryan Gosling being a literal marketing meme.

Its almost entirely built for the "played with them as a kid" angle, not the actual children playing with them currently demo.

It's not like they make movies ppl want to see. The theater biz is almost extinct.

They tried to cover it up by having 1/2 to 1/3 the seats of an old cinema, charging 15 dollars for tickets, and running a gross restaurant out of it. Which I mean that's the model now, but total audience is way down.

If I actually want to sit through a movie, sitting up, a theater is a.good place to do so. A family is going to think twice b4 buying 5 tix.

Since tix were 4 dollars, the price has at least tripled where most prices only are 2x the same time frame.

Oh. Tix = tickets. The experience is what it is. I don't do it often.

From what I've seen, at this point the Fast and the Furious movies might as well be Hot Wheels movies.

The completely absurd, physically impossible stunts make way more sense if you think of them as a 10 year old boy imagining playing with his toy cars and not as something that could actually happen in this universe (or even the universe of the first FATF movie).

Like that webcomic that posits that all of Star Wars, starting with The Phantom Menace, is just one big tabletop gaming session between weirdos, and it ends up making a disturbing amount of sense in that context?

I think it was called "Darths and Droids."

Oh snap. I completely forgot about that series. I got to check it out again.

"Murdering a bunch of children" yep definitely checks out as a role-playing game

It would be cool if they had the guts to just make a movie with insane car jumps and one of the plot points is somebody has to complete a double loop on Hot Wheeks tracks for the first time and they play it completely straight. That's not what they'll do, though.

Unbranded, or rebranded, yeah

The branded hot wheels dragster -- i think it's a mustang running nitromethane -- is cool though. On YT.

But...they already made Real Steel...

I'd argue that Redline is also a contender, though maybe not as ideally suited as Speed Racer.

Just make some cartoon cars go fast and you'll print money. But no, the ESGtards won't finance it unless it reinforces tHe MesSAgE.

Redline was the greatest animated feature I've seen in a very long time.

Films should be brave enough to be as weird and campy as Speed Racer or Dick Tracy.

Speed Racer is one of those films that instantly impressed me because it was so, so careful and intelligent about the source material and how to adapt it.

Too bad about the Wachowskis but man their early films were stellar.

If you haven't watched Dick Tracy you should. In its own way it's even more over the top than Speed Racer was.

It's gritty because the biggest buyers of Hot Wheels is adult men who are crazy. The toy collectors have their own stereotypes and the Hot Wheels guys are the gritty annoying ones.

I live my life one quarter track at the time. Nothing else matters: not the rarity, not the packaging, not my collections resell value and all the facebook trading group bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I'm free.

That's fucking grit.

Gritty hot wheels? Well if they are busy with that they can’t touch Thundercats or Silverhawk.

I’m not surprised. Pedo-wood is all about corruption your childhood.

Sounds like a cynical trademark tie-in. G.I. Joe and Transformers make sense - they have established characters and settings on which to hang plots - and Barbie at least has characters. Hot Wheels are just toy cars.

anything else? no thanks.

Either give me a movie about the making of Hot Wheels as a company or give me a cool bright colored race car toy movie. I don't want to see gritty Hot Wheels either.

I was confused and intrigued that the founder of 8Chan was getting a movie.

Oh, toy cars, of course. Silly me.

Aceleracers was gritty and a little dark and was a really good series. They should bring it back.
