In the gaming realm? Sony has almost double the market share than Microsoft. Boosting Microsoft to be more competitive would benefit gamers. Look at PS Plus; they had to up their game to compete with Game Pass Ultimate.

The data is in enemy hands regardless. I would love to see Microsoft get saddled with the bloated, worthless mess that is AB.

If that's all Activision has, then yes let MS get saddled with bloated crud. As the only company doing well in the stock market these days, thanks to their krakenesque tentacles in many different revenue streams.

Will they do the same with Warcraft? I'd consider that a mercy kill.

At that point I would look into moving the company out of CA, that place will only get worse and end up as a portland 2nd attempt.

They might not be able to. I understand Ubisoft has accepted a lot of money from the state through the years. Who knows what bindings that money came with.

That would be fun watching Blizzard deal with an actual Blizzard. Nothing is designed for snow, so people just abandon their cars.

The reason why Microsoft is in Redmond is the company realized how corrupt the Seattle politicians were. In Redmond, the government is basically MSoft. So you have truth there, but I don't know how far that stretch can go.

The UK does not get a veto on one American company buying another American company. If the UK tries to pull that shit on a merger the US govt approves, then the US can and should retaliate against UK companies until the UK government pulls its head out of its ass & respects its limited jurisdiction.

Activision shares dropped almost 10% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, while Microsoft's stock was up nearly 8%.

Shows that the market thinks Activision is trash & MSFT shouldn't be wasting money on it. I agree.

I don't understand why they get a vote either. They have no jurisdiction here, unless they're threatening to bar MS products from their company if the deal goes through.

Microsoft has local subsidiaries in almost every major country.

By blocking other mergers? Your terms are acceptable.

until the UK government pulls its head out of its ass & respects its limited jurisdiction.

A government that is persecuting an Australian subject by having him arrested in the UK and Sweden for supposedly violating American laws has no business talking about 'limited jurisdiction'.

Then again, you're just persecuting him throughout your own imperial domains, so I guess that's fair.

Presumably the UK would enforce its "block" of the merger by banning Microsoft from doing business in the UK. Retaliation would mean banning British companies from doing business in the USA. This is a standard trade war. The UK is way out of line.

What's next, is the mayor of London going to indict Donald Trump? Because apparently the bongs don't know what the word "jurisdiction" means.

Julian Assange

Your whataboutism game is weak. The local jurisdictions he gets arrested in have to consent to US jurisdiction and turn him over. The UK regulator didn't ask the US permission to step in and regulate US businesses.

By that standard, you can't indict Assange. Nor the Russians who were arrested in Argentina for internet piracy.

Your whataboutism game is weak.

"Whataboutism" is the word they fed to the world's dumbest people to bar inquiry into whether they and their side abide by the standards they impose on others: GG

You're not among the world's dumbest people, but you pretend to not understand some stuff that you do.

The local jurisdictions he gets arrested in have to consent to US jurisdiction and turn him over. The UK regulator didn't ask the US permission to step in and regulate US businesses.

What a weak excuse. As if those local jurisdictions are in any way independent. Sweden and the UK are vassals. And by your standard, if Garland agrees to extradite Trump, the UK could indict him in London.

By that standard, you can't indict Assange.

So the way extradition works, I'll say again, is the arresting country has to consent. Canada arrested that top CCP lady from huawei or something and then never actually extradited her.

Whataboutism

It's commie 101 and it gets tiresome to deal with. It's obviously bad faith & propagandistic. I don't care if you call the US a hypocrite. Stop trying to change the subject with commie tactics. My point about UK jurisdiction stands. "but muh USA bad". We get it. We don't care. I can't have a conversation with you anymore bc of shit like this.

Glenn Greenwald can be a real dumb faggot sometimes. Just because he believes in free speech doesn't give him a pass on being a libtard on lots of other things.

And by your standard, if Garland agrees to extradite Trump, the UK could indict him in London.

It wouldn't be up to Garland, it would be up to Garland + the President + a district court judge + the court of appeals + the supreme court. If ALL of them agreed to extradite Trump, then yes, that's what would happen.

Because of CLOUD GAMING. Utterly ridiculous, could've brought up numerous other reasons but this one's just retarded. Cloud gaming has failed, no one likes it and barely anyone uses it.

The prices are utterly ridiculous. I cried bloody tears when I bought my last GPU but I will never be able to play cloud gaming, why? Cuz my internet connection is not as stable as it should be for gaming.

The secret here lies in another secret: military drone operators practice professionally inside enterprise Minecraft servers. Think about that for a while.

The whole patents and Intellectual Property system need a do-over..

permalink save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– acp_k2win 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

The patent system was meant to deal with physical processes. Using it for software algorithms was a huge mistake. Even if software can be patented the length of exclusivity needs to be at the absolute most something like 5 years given how fast technology moves.

Copyright is a complete cluster, mostly caused by disney. AFAIK trademarks are handled in a somewhat sane manner.

IMO the correct solution is to require all IP holders to pay an annual "property" tax for enforcement. Something like .3% of the value seems ballpark reasonable. So if the Google trademark is worth 50 billion dollars Google would have to pay 150 million annually to retain it.

How we determine the value is the IP is auctioned off every year with a starting bid of whatever the owner sets. The bids would all be legally binding to prevent shenanigans. If someone bids greater than the minimum then the old owner gets the money, the IP is transferred, and the new owner pays tax on the new value. If nobody bids then the owner pays the tax on the minimum bid.

So you can copyright your blog post by registering and setting the value at $5 and paying 1.5 cents tax every year until you no longer feel like it, then the post becomes public domain.

If any country can prevent mergers by companies basedin other nations we put blood in the water and open the door for extreme rent-seeking behavior.

both Microsoft and Activision are effectively global companies. They could tell the UK to get fucked and merge anyway, but the UK can say fuck you you can't do business here.
