But why aren’t there any black pirates? How about stop half-assing it and make the crocodile a trans while we are at it.

I remember the crocodile being a metaphor for Captain Hook's fear of death, so I don't really think it fits because the children (who should be the ones afraid of trannies) aren't that scared of it.

Besides, the fairies make perfect trannies because they literally die if you say you don't believe in them. (but the process can be countered with enough affirmations, just like how trannies can avoid suicide by feeding off of e-support)

Well, the crocodile is easy enough to avoid, because of that ticking watch that announces his presence wherever he goes.

For whom does the watch tick? Why, for YOU, Hook! Bwahahahaha.

It was always in my stupid weird kid headcanon the gator became the big lipped one in All Dogs Go To Heaven. So you would not be wrong here. In some far off distant memory that I may have entirely fabricated, I feel like I read somewhere at some point that he is the same gator.

In the movie Hook some of the Lost Boys were black and I don’t remember anyone complaining but they understood that Lost Boys were boys. Clearly the director hasn’t read the book because there was a specific reason they were called lost boys. Of course whenever I say you should respect the source material I’m told that’s a white supremacist dog whistle. Similar to the response you get if you want game journalists to talk about games.

We live in a time where knowing the source material is considered "problematic"

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 11 ▼
– Smith1980 11 points 3 years ago +11 / -0

I know! Add to that the shill media with articles like “this show craps all over the source material and that’s a good thing”

▲ 11 ▼
– TyCat999999 11 points 3 years ago +11 / -0

I don’t doubt that part of it is simple smugness, in that some unknown little journalist from some minor outlet no one reads in 2023 can feel like they’re superior to the long-dead famous author of the beloved work that’s being “updated for modern audiences.” Same again with the directors and actors of the updates. You can also sense that what they really want to say is “we made this better!”

▲ 6 ▼
– Smith1980 6 points 3 years ago +6 / -0

And I feel like they are so deep into the cause that they are honestly surprised and think you are a bad person if you want to see a more faithful adaptation. Also they are honestly shocked when all those things fail

▲ 5 ▼
– TyCat999999 5 points 3 years ago +5 / -0

I almost don’t even think there is a fail state though, they’re so deep in the cause as you say, that if a woke-ified movie bombs they can’t admit defeat but take recourse in the argument thst it bombed because other people are racist and need even more “modern audiences” adaptations to fix them. The movement did seem to acknowledge that its attempted Hogwarts Legacy boycott backfired, but I’ve never seen such a moment of clarity around movies/TV generally as opposed to games, or around anything where they supported the thing rather than opposed it.

I remember a critic who loved the Last Jedi in late 2019 giving a sort of apology for attacking fans who didn’t like it and he could understand that people would be upset about an iconic hero being “deconstructed”

the point isn't just that it's "source material from a prior era" but that the source material actually made sense. this doesn't.

The point was that they were feral, and Wendy was a civilizing influence on them. You can still have ferals with girls, but the point about never growing up suffers.

Agreed. Also I guess I’m just tired of the mindset that you need to inject women into everything. Wendy is already an important character

The only thing I got out of Hook as a kid was an absolute obsession with eating frosting for dinner. Oh, and that big ass statue that "ate" Hook gave me nightmares. There was something incredibly unnerving about how it made him just vanish from existence, like some kind of fucking SCP.

“Hey why did you make my Cuban sandwich with lettuce, ketchup, and kimchi”

“Cuban sandwiches should be for everybody”

Same kind of stupid response. The story is the recipe. Stop messing with the recipe.

.... They were all lost boys for the same reason as all the wayward children on Pleasure Island were boys. They were stories for warning boys about the vices that they would face as men/examples of what happens specifically to boys when they stray. Yep, sexist, but not in the way Hollywood would want to think. The Lost Boys aren't heroes, never were. It's the same kind of stupid spin that makes modern folk think the only people hiding in the woods were misunderstood good guys like the Merry Men, and not the "wolves" of fairy tales and dark winter night-time raids.

Girls had their own warning tales.

I’m surprised no SJW is whining at how it’s problematic to portray black children as being on their own with no parents in their lives. Usually you can count on them to fall into exactly that kind of crazy internecine conflict where everybody tries to outwoke one another.

If you are going to make changes, why not call them The Lost Children or The Lost Kids or just the Lost? Or would those changes not be enough of a poke in the eye?

The Bud Light fiasco gives me hope the era of DIE is coming to a close, and petty "inclusive" changes like the above will quietly wither from the mainstream.

because the entire point of subversion is to pervertedly destroy that which came before it. it needs to use the old names, but pervert them with the new. using a new name doesn't pervert the old. it's why they won't make their own stories, and when they do, no one cares.

I remember last week when I was in the cinema watching a totally heckin valid Marvel masterpiece and the police came and dragged all the women out and took their shoes away, but the important thing we all learned was that movies are for boys only and not for girls.

Peter Pan was always black cultural appropriation.

A bunch of orphan boys who never grow up and use "pixie dust" to fly :: common fatherless niggers who are emotionally and intellectually incapable of adulthood and smoke fentanyl laced crack to get by.

A troop of fumbling, bumbling pirates who abuse kids :: obvious nigger shit - the lost boys will grow bigger and live a life of theft and murder, preying on the weak, and incapable of an honorable life.

Some unassuming white kids get pulled into the hijinx :: yup - happens every day when white people think they can intervene into nigger shit and fix them.

Ah yes, J. M. Barrie, that well known thief of black culture, born in /checks notes: Kirriemuir, Scotland in 1860.

The Davies boys (the middle name Llewelyn was a tradition begun with their grandfather, not a true double-barreled surname, though the family sometimes treated it as such) were the inspiration for the stories of Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie, in which several of the characters were named after them. They were the sons of Sylvia (1866–1910) and Arthur Llewelyn Davies (1863–1907). Their mother was a daughter of French-born cartoonist and writer George du Maurier and sister of actor Gerald du Maurier, whose daughter was author Daphne du Maurier. Their father was a son of preacher John Llewelyn Davies, and brother of suffragist Margaret Llewelyn Davies.

My, how black those two were. Oh wait, that's just the black and white photography of the time and still they aren't actually black.
