We get bombarded by a lot of shit all year round, from governments, media sites to the dying old media. Under this constant barrage of sewage, it's good to have things you can escape to rather than just sit there and absorbing it all like a Liberal arts student.
So whether it's working out, taking walks in a park, gaming, anime or sneaking your trash into that annoying neighbour you have, it's the little things in life.
And although we can hate the management at the top, Youtube is still the number one in terms of content creators and podcasts so what have you enjoyed on that side that stop you looking at bulldozer sales.
I've every week enjoyed Solus Astorias comic dubs, Templin Institute when they are active (off for holidays), Count Dankula and when they drop the Kane Pixels backrooms series showing a teenager has more talent than 99% of Hollywood and media giants. And let's not forget the foriegn market though that language barrier will only last so long to keep out the leftists..
Dankula is a vibrant character, but I swear his accent can't be cut with a wood axe. I can barely understand him.
On the topic of video hosting, rumble comes in last for me, how do you find anything there? Youtube conquers by algorithm which never runs out of recommended material.
I thought I only had issues with understanding Dankula because I am not a native speaker.
No that's the Scots in general, unless you've lived by them or friends with them for a long time can be REALLY hard to understand the accent. The rural accent though is the worst for newcomers.
I spent 10 days in Wales once. Great folks great time, barely understood a word they said.
But true, the Scots swallow their English like a gulp of scrapple /so hard to decipher.
I surprisingly have no issue despite noticing the Scottish accent, but I am a Canadian though so that might have something to do with it.
It's spoken under the breath instead of with it, so everything is a bit mushed.
If you want a fun challenge try listening two of us [Scots] talking to each other. We may start off talking at a pace that is understandable but we will get quicker and quicker with no signs of stopping.
I find that Dankula's actually pretty easy to understand. Maybe it varies based on which regional accent you're starting from.
You should hear him when he's using his normal Scottish dialect.
This is him at his absolute best for American Audiences
As for Rumble, I use Rumble now more than YouTube. I don't know what your confusion is. There's a search feature, you subscribe to channels, and you review your feed. The search is certainly better than YouTube because YT keeps fucking curating the search results so you can rarely find what you're looking for even if you have the name of the video memorized.
I only get content on Rumble when it's linked to me FROM YouTube, as a kind of 'we're now moving this section to Rumble so we can freely talk without restrictions'
I don't take recommendations very seriously. If a content creator I follow has a developed alt-tech platform, I generally bookmark that page and check in when my schedule and their release schedule might line up.
In lieu of recommendations, I generally go with crossover episodes from panels and the like. If they have a good guest on, I'll check that creator out and decide if they make the list.
Unironcially hiking, has done me well in losing weight, is good for my health and also quite fun. Also putting in my favorite podcast alongside is great.
Other than that I learn to play guitar, I read a lot of manga and watch anime, it's still the go to for me.
That's really good, I was more 'preventive' with working out.
I am a lucky bastard that has a fantastic metabolism that I could eat a lot but not get fat, I knew it would eventually fuck me over so started properly working out consistently a few years ago. It always clears your mind after especially when you push yourself a little just to test your progress by putting 1 extra weight on.
Drugs and alcohol.
One of the constants of life, getting your arse kicked can do wonders for gaining perspective on life lol
This man chad's.
Yup. Same here with boxing and Sanda. The women issue is a given when you think about it. Most angry woke women are basically trying to be what they think men are.
Watching the vaccinated die.
For Anime, it has been SpyXFamily for more lighthearted stuff, and Eight-Six:86 for more heavy themes.
For general Youtube channels, it has been a lot Black Pants Legion (mostly Tex, naturally), TheRussianBadger, Max0r, and GrayStillPlays, all of which are just straight gaming channels. With the last three focusing mostly on more meme-y styles. I also second OP on Solus Astoria and Templin Institute. And yes, I also watch V-Tubers because I am nothing if not a weeb.
For more serious non-political topics on Youtube, I enjoy Drachinifel, who goes over stats and designs of Age of Sail up through World Wars warships, but much like The Chieftain for tanks (which I also watch him), he takes a more serious look at the ships and their abilities, which leads to him actually looking at their abilities instead of just stats (ie: He constantly dunks on the Bismarck-class for being a hilarious inefficient design that in some cases had worse fighting ability than ships that weight 5,000-10,000 tons less than it and were years older in design).
On the gaming front, I have had absolutely no shortage of games, with my top ones for the year being 40k: Darktide, Victoria 3, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, and Elden Ring. Here on New Years Day, I was actually going to be making a thread of what people are looking forward to for upcoming, because my list is way too long (which is why I dont believe anyone who says Gaming is dying).
The last unusual but fun thing is that, with having moved into my own house now, I live on the side of town that has the trailhead for a biking path around the city, so I started riding that from the Spring to the Fall just to start working out. By the time I was at shutting it down because it was getting too cold, I was able to get through the whole 30-ish mile trail in about 40 minutes. So now I have a goal to beat come next summer.
I watched a YouTube review of the Starship Trooper game (mostly it inspired me to go watch the movie again--awesome movie). Looked fun.
Starship troopers game and that Dune one that came out this year are on my notice if they go on sale as they fit my need for strategy games
I also have Dune on my wishlist. The Starship Troopers one is definitely very fun, but I will say that it is less of a "strategy" game and more of a moveable tower defense game. Since all of your strategies are about setting up strong gun lines and then letting the bugs to come you.
I've cut out pretty much all TV except for cooking competition shows (and I turn those off if the contestants or host get a little too seasoned, if you get my drift) and anime.
Yeah it's something I noticed while spending time with relatives for Christmas, the TV was on in the background only because we'd hop from one movie to another that gets played every year.
An of the actual tv stuff we turned over, it just doesn't appeal anymore
I’ve been listening to a lot of musicals.I’m still a man, right?
I won't question your manhood if you like musicals, like cocktails or even wear something frilly (as Tudors had style lol)
I WILL question your manhood on one these two points:
If you're a bottom
If you use pronouns (but i repeat myself)
Not a man, do you have any musical recommendations?
Not u/simian, and I'll be curious for the answer, but, for me...
Depends a lot on your musical taste. I'm not super into musicals, and I don't know anything particularly new.
Les Miserables
Andrew Lloyd Weber -- Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Man of La Mancha
Camelot
Mary Poppins?
I got a little into Gilbert & Sullivan after seeing the Sideshow Bob episode of The Simpsons where he sings something from the H.M.S. Pinafore.
I have a recording of 1967 Camelot on vinyl and I love it! I was in a few musicals in high school and it’s more of a nostalgic interest to me, but I’ll look into the ones I haven’t seen here like Man of La Mancha.
I may be lame, but I ended up liking the greatest showman a lot more than I thought I would.
Some actually catchy songs in it, also has a pretty wholesome story about a man trying to provide for his family, losing himself a bit along the way, but ultimately choosing NOT to cheat on his wife and going back to his family instead.
The reviewer vs audience score on rotten tomatoes says it all.
Does The Muppet Christmas Carol count?
Michael Caine isn't the greatest singer though.
When I want to escape reality, I just watch the news or listen to white house press conferences.
Seriously though, random 1-off small studio games and old campy TV/movies. Currently the original Lost In Space. Also climbing gym and skiing.
an app on my phone to play race car games.
Free to play and how's battery drain/data drain?
Very minimal. Typically I'll charge the phone once a day without the game but I'm on it so much that I charge twice a day. It's addicting once you acquire more cars in games and get good. It's drag racing and you can "pinks" cars so you have a chance to win/lose or trade up cars with other people in the game. It's a good balance for me to escape.
Game wise, lots of Falcom stuff early in the year and lots of car games late in the year. Started gaming with my cousin’s son quite a bit and that’s been fun for a change. I don’t watch much TV. Rode my bike a lot in the summer especially, not like anything close to serious “cycling” just enjoying being outside.
Falcom stuff?
Yeah Ys mostly, or some of the Trails series
Ok I was wondering if that's what you meant. I just got done watching a nice and long retrospective on Quintet, which might be enjoyable to anyone who likes those old Japan RPGs. You probably already know but Quintet was founded by a few guys who left Nihon Falcom, and they went on to make ActRaiser, Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer, and Terranigma.
A pair of three kingdom period pieces dominate my list:
I reincarnated as a legendary surgeon is a slice of life Isekai into the time just prior to the three kingdoms period in China.
Whereas Three Kingdom's: Lu Bu's legacy, takes Lu Bu, gives him the knowledge of his life as he lived it, and sets him loose in his own past with the idea that he needs to change to better the future.
And then there's The Boundless Necromancer, which is a pulpy Korean Webnovel which updated so slowly I became frustrated enough write my own novel whilst waiting for it to update.
On a more lighthearted side since your in a three kingdom mood, ever watched the anime Ya Boy Kongming?
When I saw him mention three kingdoms I was wondering if that would get brought up. Ya Boy Kongming is so fucking fun, and catchy.
It is now on 'the list.'
Thanks!
I've been going hard on podcasts for the last couple of years.
Huberman Lab podcast is basically the owners manual for your brain.
Jocko podcast for war stories. His podcasts on the Vietnam POWs and their stories are really humbling. Now whenever something someone else does is bothering me I imagine that I'm a prisoner and the jailers are using whatever that annoyance is to break me mentally so I hand over Intel, which makes me realize whatever it is isn't that bad and I need to stop being a pussy.
Martyr Made podcasts for some deep dives into history. Matt Walsh is as close as I come to a "news" source, is funny enough and has some decently based takes for a normiecon who is hamstrung by who he is working for. Red Ice podcast for even more basedness. I even listen to Ben Shapiro sometimes but tune out whenever he talks about international stuff because the zionism agenda is so obvious once you are clued in.

A guy living in the woods by himself and making stuff with a chainsaw. Has a really good attitude and close to a laconic sense of humor.
And I started listening to the Bible on audiobook, straight through. I'm about 1/2 through the new testament.
For games I've been cracking out on Pathfinder Kingmaker the last few months. If you like Baldurs Gate this is a great adaptation. The game is HUGE and has a decent amount of replayability. It has some feminist plot points but imo not worse than you would see in an early 2000s game. Also a bit of faggotry but none of it is plot relevant.
Bit of a cheeky question, since you're half way through the new testament, want to try War and Peace after?
I think I would do Brothers Karamazov first but there is a lot of other literature I would do before hitting Dostoevsky. This is one I've been wanting to pick up.
Maybe I'll finish it before I die.
Yeah, that tends to happen when a bunch of communists put your ankles over your shoulders.
Some books I would recommend, pretty much anything by Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn is a good starting point. (Fantasy)
Guy Gavriel Kay. Tigana. Lions of al-Rassan. Fictional fantasy pseudo-history.
C.S. Friedman, In Conquest Born. (Science Fiction)
Just started a re-read for the first time in years of The Lord of the Rings. I'm taking it very slow.
So called Boomer Shooters: Cultic, Amid Evil, Dusk, and others.
Cats does countdown and taskmaster. My wife and I have been playing the latest Kirby. I've been playing Castlevania and Lego city undercover.
Gaming mostly, usually keep a game for whatever genre O feel like playing and rotate between them (currently going hard on Star Citizen, before that did some Troubleshooters and before that some more runs of Nioh 2. Amongst others)
Read a lot of manga and for some series even their light/web novel.
Certain YouTubers for background noise while gaming or some music (mostly Sabaton) as background noise.
Barely watch movies, only the occasional "I want to rewatch monty python".
Only watch TV at dinner and it's mostly to keep my bullshit radar intact while complaining at the news (it's good to complain once in a while)
I also enjoy creating a universe for a story I may or may not write some day but which I massively enjoy making. Got a big ass excel spreadsheet and these pocket sized books filled with background stuff. From information on monetary systems, to the different planes of existence or just on how the average Joe goes about his business and so forth
What an interesting band- heavy metal history songs. I can honestly say I never thought I'd hear that type of song about Verdun or sinking the Bismark.
Generally I like my music to have good vocals that has some sense behind them (of course the classic stuff is excluded.....modern music is a sad sad place) and Sabaton has both.
Their music also tends to be energetic which is always nice to go about your day and every so often the interest piques and I go look up what a song is about.
