I can see the advantage, but I still prefer using a news aggregator forum like this board. At the very least a longer format helps to provide more context.
I'm wondering if Musk's new X platform idea is to take advantage of the strengths of twitter that u/Ahaus667 brings up, and turn it into general linking platform or hub for everyone's content, sort of a meta-social network. If he added other features like forums and video discovery, he could compete with reddit, YouTube, or TikTok.
As a medium to convey information directly, yeah it's absolutely terrible. I agree with Tim Pool that it's just for self-promotion and comedy.

Or find niche hobbies where the main forum has existed since the early 2000's (or before) and despite being extremely active looks like it hasn't been upgraded since.

Owning twitter is never about profit. If you own twitter you own the greatest dissemination point of propaganda in the modern era and you are able to tune it to your liking. How many news segments right now have literally just been "X says Y on Twitter"?

I'm just looking forward to the job cuts, the streamlining of staff and non preferential treatment in rules as that alone will break a lot of those blue checkmarks.

Problem is that unless twitter can sell and monetize that access, it's still going to go bankrupt.
If Elon slashes the payroll to the bone, maybe he can make it sustainable.
