Our parents couldn't do shit about it, and parents today are as unable to push against the sheer peer and social pressure to belong to these newly fashionned "identities". The difference is we could easily and did grow out of it, today's kids are getting medicated and butchered.
It all starts to make sense when you realise "Gender Identity" is just a fancy word for "fashion trend" and that you understand the folks using it to groom kids are pedos.

Not necessarily. I’ve seen a couple of people who were incredibly good parents whose children claimed they were trans once leaving home. I blame the schools in each of those cases because it was a school employee that encouraged this. And this was decades ago.

The man provided for the family and the woman brought the children up. Since feminism destroyed women, giving them that responsibility has become a dangerous gamble.
