Nate says that the maximum for punitive damages is 350,000 - while the jury awarded him 5 million - so it would be reduced to 10.35 million for Johnny.

How the fuck can the jury find in both their favors? The jury found that Heard made false accusations of abuse. So it explicitly found that Depp was telling the truth when he called her a liar, which means they should have found Depp not liable for defamation. I understand how suits/countersuits work but given the facts of this situation they should have found in favor of one or the other. They're contradicting themselves here.
This case was a slam dunk, it was probably something to placate the sjw holdout on the jury so they can all go home.

I think they would have won if they'd kept it about boring semantics and freedom of speech, focussing purely on the article at the centre of it all. But Amber Heard's insane narcissism and society's insane feminism made them think they were undefeatable, even if they used the trial as a stage to re-narrate Heard's victim narrative. That made it less about technical questions of her free speech and all about her credibility, of which she had none.
