I don't know (not sure who runs that account), but what part of that statement do you disagree with? Watching sports is bread and circuses. It pacifies men and keeps them from getting too rowdy outside the arena. Same thing with porn. I'm not a traditionalist who thinks you can't be allowed to have those things or other forms of entertainment, but recognize what it's doing to you.

If you're going to say something about feminism destroying us, don't obsess over the "x is why z" construction. There can be multiple reasons that men are weak. Focus on improving that so we can fight back.

Edit: I wrote this before seeing your comment.

The problem isn't the statement itself, it's the context around it. This is a Twitter account made by Gab to promote Gab. And the person running this account couldn't hide their power level. You can be racist, you can be sexist, you can be anti semitic but the moment you post dumb shit like this you lose your credibility.

Posting something like this as a normie is fine. Posting something like this as an official account is stupid. If this keeps happening it's going to hinder Gabs growth.

Scaring off some of the normies is a positive. Twitter's power come from the fact that it is how the current elite organize. Gab is for an alternative elite.

Right now, Gab has almost no normie content. Everyone on there is at least somewhat political. You can't have alt tech when it's like that because why would anyone use it?

There is nothing that's not "somewhat political" these days. Oscars are political, "comedy" is political, Disney is political.

because you don't get banned for calling people who act life faggots faggots and saying you don't want to live around blacks and that trannies belong in a nuthouse and that women are retarded and shouldn't vote and that the names of the people who own media companies have something in common

It really just proves that Twitter itself is not the problem. The Twitter model of social media is the problem, and it's just as cancerous on Gab as it is on Twitter.

No, the Twitter model isn't the problem here. It's the user.

I disagree. The Twitter model encourages users, official company accounts or not, to spout exactly this kind of unfiltered nonsense.

We get plenty of nonsense on every type of platform, though. Even long form video essays have a lot of nonsense, i.e. breadtube.

– dagthegnome 4 points 4 years ago +4 / -0

I still maintain that there's something especially nefarious about Twitter, and the whole "microblog" model. It's probably a confluence of factors: the like/retweet model feeding into people's need for instant gratification, the bewildering pace of the conversation on those platforms making it difficult for people to actually think about things instead of just constantly react, and the mandated brevity which just eliminates any room for nuance.

All of these things together just create a platform that distills retardation into a purer and more virulent form. Gab may have a different political bent, but that doesn't make it any more productive when it comes to the exchange of ideas.

Yeah, it probably is especially bad. Even the post in the OP isn't fleshed out or well-worded.

Exactly. People forget, before Gab was Free Speech Twitter, Twitter itself was Free Speech Twitter and Twitter still sucked with Free Speech.

Sports isn't the only problem. But it is part of the problem.

At some point a switch was flipped and instead of men being inspired to emulate other men doing great things, it became enough just to witness other men do great things without any action.

I'm surprised you're on this board if you think some part of his statement is wrong.

Not only is he not wrong, he's being incredibly narrow. It's not just 'sports'. It's everything. Movies, TV, Music, and yes, Videogames.

This is just 'Bread and Circuses' - a 2000 year old observation that is as true today as it was then. The country is going to shit precisely because people are still able to fill their belly and be entertained even as problems that are obviously going to destroy the nation if they aren't fixed continue to grow in severity.

I was thinking how to post the same thing really. Idolatry is really the key word from that statement because it can be anything. I've known people who obsess and idolize sports, sure. I've also known people who do the same with video games. That's why I really think it's foolish to when I hear someone say "sports are bad," "video games are bad," etc. because often times the context around it is hypocrisy and their obsession is okay. As far as I'm concerned none of it is bad if it's just a time filler, but when it becomes a integral part of your self, when it becomes idolatry it's a problem.

Movies, TV, Music, and yes, Videogames.

And particularly porn. That nowadays kids are exposed to at around age 10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtp31feyTfM

very well researched and presented and worth watching but tl;dw: regular porn use causes structural changes in the brain that make everything else in life feel worse, and the infinite novelty that is available on the internet makes it almost irresistibly addictive

I think rather than watching sports being the main reason for a lack of action, having your own government, employers, various family members and a large segment of the population all being against you and willing to tear you down for just questioning the current state of the world is probably more accurate.

Somehow I don't think that if people stop watching sports, that they will suddenly be able to protest or take action without police/other government alphabet gangstas coming at them like a ton of bricks and taking away their freedoms, destroying their livelihoods and taking their children away on trumped up charges.

Having an all chad population won't help much if the government runs you down. If they can run-over grandmas in walkers with a horse without any hesitation imagine how fucked up they will gladly make anyone else who tries to make a real change.

The point is many people distract themselves from how bad things really are by following sports.

Ex.

Coworker who didn't want to get the clot shot. Really anxious about it. Never took any meaningful action (call, volunteer, donate money) to political figures or doctors fighting against it. But plenty of time to follow sportsball, knowing teams and players.

Distractions are very necessary in this day and age. I'd just be happy that people don't harm themselves/end their lives at this point. The terrible twenties are some serious shit. Also the OP from Gab is a little ironic, as going on gab and messaging on alt tech is also technically a distraction that takes time away from other things.

Where are you even from, and where do you live? You speak of the West as though you are an outsider yet also carry on as if your opinion is valuable. It's very peculiar.

Competition is a natural part of being a man. Modern sport is just a replacement for the more brutal, warlike competitions that men would engage in during ages past. These are natural things for men to be interested in, and they have many advantages such as teaching self-discipline and encouraging physical fitness.

The problem isn't playing sports or watching sports, it's escapism. If you're obsessed with sports as a way to avoid your problems and neglect other aspects of your life, then it's a problem. This is true for all forms of escapism, whether it be movies, television, food, videogames, etc. Escapism is okay in small doses but it is very easy to fall into a cycle of constant escapism which can make you end up filled with regret for a wasted life.

It's not that he's on the enemy's side, it's that he doesn't fully grasp the situation. He's currently in a "jews and lack of Christianity are the only problem" phase which is really an incomplete view of things. Why are jews a problem? What are they doing exactly? What is it about Christianity that actually has positive impacts on society (without using some sort of mystical nonsense as an explanation)? Why are people less Christian now than before (without saying jews)?

He hasn't addressed these questions in his mind yet.

Yep - nailed it. Torba is still looking at symptoms and not looking at causes.

To be fair, you can seem pretty smart pointing out symptoms if you have a good but incomplete heuristic.

Society over the past 100 years or so has been obsessed with playing God. First it was Eugenics which died after WW2, but the mental side of it never stopped. Think about MK Ultra.

The goal has always been controlling people. On a micro scale this works but it breaks down on a macro scale. At that scale, people will often just take the path of least resistance. Sitting down, watching sports and pigging out and consuming latest thing IS the path of least resistance right now.

But Torba is correct that is a path right to hell.

What is it about Christianity that actually has positive impacts on society (without using some sort of mystical nonsense as an explanation)? Why are people less Christian now than before (without saying jews)?

These answers should be self-evident by now.

Tradition provides solutions for problems we have forgotten. Those solutions have been forged through great pain and the collective knowledge of hundreds of generations, which makes it impossible for any individual to truly comprehend the entirety of traditional systems. Christianity is intrinsic to the spirit of the west and fundamentally inescapable for its people, just look at progressivism which is a perverse atheistic version of Christianity.

People have lost their faith due to progressive Deleuzian territorialization. Society is no less religious, but their values have been completely inverted as demonstrated best by the overt celebration of the deadliest sin: pride. In order for the progressive heresy to assert itself, it had to simultaneously dismantle the power of the traditional church institutions, which is easily seen in how progressivism is the only religion legally allowed to be taught in school.
