The worst part, though? We still adhere to these honor systems even as liars, thieves, and criminals repeatedly kick our teeth in. Right wingers should be aggressively seeking jury duty while hiding their ideology and then nullify every possible pro-left decision.

The argument (just imagine Ben Shapiro making this in his whiney voice) is that principles matter and they need to be universal or they are meaningless. Which is correct but ultimately futile. Meaning it's a lose/lose scenario.

If only there were a 3rd way of only applying principles to those that share them and not others...

I believe this already happened. It was called Liberia and it is notable for being the only country in the world to use the US constitution if i recall correctly.

I don't think it's that deep, these companies get infected by ideologues who point to things like the corporate equality index scores lead to investment and force these things in.

To bill gates, the company is great and there's literally no reason why it's a bad investment so it's an easy buy.

I hope it continues to tank.

I heard about this on the Lotus Eaters, this may be my favourite fact to remember when someone quotes the ADL.

I wish "Phase 2" of It's ok to be white had taken off, the gradual lightening of the text of the pieces of paper untill it became a white piece of paper.

Would another drone dropping something, eg a bit of material onto a drone's propellers, hypothetically be the best/simplest way to bring one down?

This would be one of those times that a real movement would create a "Free Joe Biggs" pressure groups instead of just leaving him to rot.

So a bag of crack to incriminate someone will just be replaced with an planted encrypted hard drive.

TL;DR:

"According to the study, paper straws contain poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) which are long-lasting and potentially destructive to human health with too much exposure"

""PFAS were found to be present in almost all types of straws, but primarily in those made from plant-based materials." "

So in plastic straws too.

Metal straws are best, plus you can sharpen them to John Wick someone I guess.

The whole Muslim V Progressivism is silly because you have one one side a movement that is a established structure versus a movement that erodes and subverts structures.

It's like saying a Rock will stand up to the tides better then a sand castle. The outcome is the same, the difference is just the time it takes.

What you'll find is that "western muslims" will no longer be considered muslims by everyone else. I seriously expect an Islamic breakoff towards a "tolerant and progressive" version of Islam based in the west. The ultimate subversion, just like the uniting church subverts the Catholic Church.

Devils advocate. I do think the warning sirens in Hawaii would make people think tsunami. That's probably a reasonable call to make in the moment.

The sad thing is that these are all technological problems that may have a solution if competence and merit were focuses of society. Steely eyed rocket Men got us to the Moon from scratch, but sadly they're too White too innovate past these problems.

Realistically charging stations would fast swap batteries somehow, or create a synthetic liquid that could store electrical energy exactly like fuel does currently.

I'm sure she went on to bullshit later but I watched the 33 second video linked and it cut off after her initial bullshit. She obviously was going to crap on later but the question was about 20 seconds of the 33 second video. I don't doubt the headline but the video cut off too early to show it.

preventative cancer screening is one of things that might help and it might not, so not doing it for a few years may not have an affect. It's a pretty wooly topic but it's "allowable" to discuss the counter productive role of cancer screening (for now)

Basically it boils down to since cancers are constantly occouring in your body and being taken care of every day, the more you look the more you find.

A good analogy that helped me was think of a kettle boiling, there's a few big bubbles on the surface, these are the cancers that kill people. But as you go down there are more and more smaller bubbles that are continually being created and rising but never make it to the surface. Treating cancer has a toll, and if you treat a cancer that was never going to cause health issues in the first place, that is a net negative. (Not for pharma companies obviously)

There are plausible biological pathways for mrna to cause cancer, but cancer rates will always go up in tandem with cancer screenings. If there's any aspect of covid that's not as bad as it appears, it might be the cancer part.
