Mainstream journalism was in it's death throes already, their whining is lowing the casket.

Between AI programs being developed that can do their job quicker, higher quality and for less money, to the fact smaller YouTubers are more trusted to provide information than the Mainstream, the writings on the wall.

If I was to put a prediction, I think the collapse will start probably with CNN since they are a WB property and they aren't doing so hot nowadays and their leader is known to ruthlessly cut waste. Once one falls, the other domino's will quickly follow.

The funny thing is: AI could never replace actual journalism, not at least without a physical body to do actual investigation and interviewing.

They aren't journalists, they're bloggers. Journalist is dead. It may, in fact, never have lived.

The only journalists I recognise are the ones that do what they can to get the info, whether in a war zone, in a remote area or risking reprisal by a corporation or deep state establishment.

Even when once they get it, there's the challenge of messaging it to the masses...many of whom can't even find their own country on a world map, many who have not been taught critical thinking, many who will discard anything that conflicts with their personal beliefs, and many who won't remember a thing you reported five minutes later.

It's already happening for 'online media companies/ gaming journalism'

I'm counting the days for when Kotaku finally shutters, I'll make a post with the words 'Mission Accomplished when they finally crumble.

This is true, but I sometimes think that en masse they'll attempt to make themselves appear relevant by spreading some massive campaign of lies.

Oh, wait, they've been doing that since at least 2016, so there you have it--the flailing of a dying beast.

That and many of these idiots don't even understand the concept or philosophy of journalism. They're either activists or think that being a propagandist is being a journalist.

I'm a big fan of the Lotus Eaters too, they've taken the Tim Pool route of take existing news and analyse it to get something useful and informative out of it and actually get off the fence while doing it. They're also entertaining too.

I think their audience churn is just really high. So the YouTubers have to reach farther and farther for new viewers and engagement.

You search for something to confirm your thoughts, you find some of these commentators, and it is entertaining for awhile. But, after watching so many hours of their content, you no longer need to. You can predict their reaction and opinions. Why bother wasting the time to watch the video? That's why I think they have so much churn after awhile. Audience leaves because it's predictable content. The thumbnail tells you everything.

The drama farming eventually blows back on you, and these mid to big channels inevitably reap a shitstorm, or splinter internally.

Journalists are going to be replaced by autists with phone cameras and £20 drones.

That would be a huge improvement. Relay the facts of an event with no commentary or "interpretation."

The accuracy of media no matter where is too damn low. Be it English, French, German no matter where you go if its mainstream its utter shit. The recent stabbings in France, the stabbings in Ireland and any future attacks by Muslims imported from the 3rd world are reported by not stating their nationality countless times. At this point if someone reports a "man" doing something I know it was a Muslim or some other shade of brown. Honest to God, I am just so fed up with this and am rooting for the autists with their cheap drones.

Such is life in communist regime.

The news was stilted, often inaccurate, and access to 'outside' news was carefully policed to the point there was a chilling effect on all discussions. It is unfortunate that the international communists have gained so much power.
