I do want to take this opportunity to be autistic here and point out that there's really no proof that Thomas Jefferson ever had sex with Sally Hemmings or any of his slaves. It's one of those lefty narratives that gets repeated until it becomes canon like Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman.

This is an important distinction, though I'd call it emotional projection rather than compassion. They project how they would feel/behave in a situation onto the poor browns rather than understand how they actually think and behave.
