Calling somebody a pedophile and threatening to shoot your own space company in the head because a funding bill contains some provisions you don't like isn't the way men argue, it's the way somebody with a severe problem tries to blow things up when they're feeling self destructive.
There's a History Channel competition show called Alone where they drop people off in the woods with some basic supplies and whoever lasts the longest wins a big cash prize. If it was more than calories in/calories out, every single competitor wouldn't end up losing weight in the exact same way at the exact same pace.
The Republican party is so generally unpopular that even a tiny subgroup deciding to not vote out of spite could be enough to flip the 1-2 seats that are the difference between the Mars Base and Brown Tidal Wave futures. Libertarians are especially hysterical and very stupid in these situations.
Once a guy has the rage filter activated it's not possible to get even the simplest concepts through the shields. They shift from reading and understanding sentences (relative to their IQ/whether they're ESL to begin with) to aggressively hunting for single words to fixate on, making up things you didn't actually say, reading your mind to decide what you actually think, etc. It's really fascinating to watch but really irritating when the grownups are talking and they start the raving.
