My 2c is that one should simply look at the diet of lifestyle of the fat people they know, and the obesity problem will become clear.
Tons of soda. Products like Hamburger Helper instead of actually making pasta and sausage yourself. Extremely high volume of food in general. Constant, constant snacking. No exercise. So a massive amount of low quality food and nothing to burn it. Cancer, heart disease, joint pain, diabetes, heartburn, everything else.
Occasionally you run into some outré example like a family I know who eats exclusively home-cooked meals with grass-fed beef and venison yet are all overweight, but I've had lunch with them and that was some of the richest, tastiest food in my life plus all the trimmings. Also, they don't really care about exercising, or for that matter their weight.
I don't think this is complicated. Weight gain is simply calories in and calories out. The only contentious part is the psychological compulsions that cause people to eat amounts of food that they know are bad for them, sometimes while maintaining a sedentary lifestyle, which they also know is bad for them.
Ive been trying to post less here but this is just a silly thing to argue about, basically arguing over semantics.
Sure eating 10,000 calories is not good for you,
but the difference between eating 10,000 calories of pure processed garbage (american junk food), and 10,000 calories of vegetables and real food.
Is the difference between dying at 40 versus 60.
This whole time it surprised me that not one person has mentioned sumo wrestlers. These fuckers eat 10,000 calories of good food a day to bulk up. Most die in their 60's, versus 80's for their peers, that surprises me.
Try doing that on an american diet and youd likely die at 35 or 40. Because everything is filled with chemicals to imitate flavors and preservatives to maximize shelf life and profit.
It's not as straightforward as that, yes there will be differences in whether that 10k comes from junk food or unprocessed, but not everyone actually manages to take in that full value for a lot of different reasons. As mentioned in another comment by u/TheOutlaw hormones such as insulin will affect the actual energy intake from a food source, [run an experiment giving 1000 people the same meal and see what happens when you have diabetics in the test group]. Racial demographics are also going to play into things like with widespread dairy allergies in some populations that would mean giving 10k energy to some via dairy products will generally work fine while in others you're going to end up clogging the plumbing with the fallout.
The simplest point is always going to come down to energy in vs energy out, but even that isn't as simple as it might appear at first.
10k calories a day is such a gobsmackingly large portion that it'll make anyone in the world obese unless they're training like Michael Phelps or Brian Shaw. And if you're one of those people then you very much know it.
Powerlifters like Brian Shaw eat about that many calories a day too and they seem to do okay.
I wasn't on an "Asian diet crusade" i was on an "Americans eat too much which is why America has the highest obesity rates in the world " crusade (yes the type of food you eat is also very important but eating too much is also bad. Gluttony is a sin for a reason)
There's a common saying in Japan . "Eat until you are 80% full" Hara hachi bun me 腹八分目
And considering Japan is the thinest first world country ,and the saying came from Okinawa which is one of the longest lived cities in the world so its probably good advice.
You're being a weeb, though. That's all I'm saying
Maybe, but the amount of people that got so angry with me just for saying "gluttony is bad" is really astounding.
Literally nobody got angry with you about that.
You mean the guy who believes "anyone who disagrees with me or finds me annoying is a jew trying to silence me" might not be able to understand criticism?
Shocking!
What critisizm? none of the critisizm made any sense, other then people getting angry with me for saying if America wants to not be the most obese country in the world then Americans need to stop eating such big portions.
Its almost poetic.
they did. My main point in my posts were "America has the highest obesity rates in the world because Americans eat too much" (and there's proof that Americans eat too much, America's portion sizes are larger than the rest of the world.) And people got angry with me for that and acted like eating too much food doesn't contribute to being fat
Dude, you kept ignoring or glossing over the salient point of the content of the food.
This was, in a very literal sense, not exhibited until the nineties.
im not ignoring it. I said both are an issue. The type of food and also the giant portion sizes
Did you read the same comments I did? People were getting weirdly vitriolic toward Telia in that thread. With the level of animosity in those comments, you'd think Telia kicked their dog and pushed their grandma down the stairs. It was weird. And, it was just about diet and food, which is important, but not the kind of subject to get that caustic about.
What I did see was a crap load of people getting baited into talking to the pedo pajeet, but it looks like that was after I stopped reading it. Hell the thread size has doubled since then.
Wait what? You're saying Telia is a pedo pajeet alt?
I've dealt with that subversive on ConPro for a while, and Telia doesn't talk like him at all.
No I'm saying the majority of the comments that I see now didn't exist when I stopped reading the thread. Hence why I missed several people getting pissed at him.
Let them die with a Suddenly.
Yes. He is. Getting creepy
Why?
And you're wrong about that, as many people told you.
If im wrong about it then why do so many people shame American women for being fat?
I always hear people say they want the Asian waifu because they aren't fat unlike the American women, but wouldn't that imply its the American women's fault for eating too much?
But people say that its not because Americans eat too much its because the food in America is unhealthy. And if that's the logic then how can we attack and blame the American woman for being fat if its not the American woman's fault, that the food in America is unhealthy ?
This statement in no way contradicts you being wrong about why the average American is too fat.
it is a contradiction. Why shame American women for being fat if its not their fault? What did they do wrong if the problem isn't "eating too much"?
Like I said above, the problem is really the psychology that causes people to eat too much. Also you keep talking about portion sizes, but if you eat very frequent small portions of snacks you will also be fat.
To sum it up, American food is highly addictive, nutritionally inferior, and on top of that high in processed carbs that are even more effective at getting people fat. Americans are also atomized and deracinated, meaning they have weaker family ties, a weaker sense of culture, have lost a lot of food traditions, and are therefore reliant on buying garbage. The average American consumer doesn't even know how terrible his diet is.
So you are correct that eating less would make the country healthier, but the problem is changing the pressures and circumstances that cause people to eat more (and lower quality) food.
Sooooo they eat to much.
What the fuck are you even saying.
"the problem is really the psychology that causes people to eat too much."
that's why you shouldn't be snacking on things either. I saw a reddit post one time of an Asian woman who married an American and the guy could not lose weight no matter the many different programs he tried. Yet he refused to eat like his wife(his wife ate no snacks and if she did happened to eat snacks she would skip the main meal) His wife stayed skinny while the husband was fat because he ate the main meals and ate the snacks.
If you start baking your own bread, there is a pretty high chance of gaining weight. The reason is that you're still eating the same volume as before, but this time the bread is more calorie dense. (The supermarket stuff has less calories.)
More vegetables in your diet on the other hand does typically lead to weight loss, due to consuming less calorie dense food and still triggering your 'I'm full' stomach alert.
But eating pasta isn't healthy either, due to the plate being mostly filled with high-calorie foodstuffs (even if you do choose the wholegrain stuff). Pasta recipes typically do not have the vegetable bulk to fill up your stomach. Vegetables are low-calorie.
As for processed foods. You shouldn't be eating most of it but the better stuff tends to be pricier and unaffordable for a significant portion of the Western population.
Hamburger helper is infinitely better than going out to eat goyfeed. American eat out too much (or have outside food delivered).
I'm not going to throw too many stones, because I eat processed foods to some extent and I think that's fine, but if you're talking about goyslop then you can't really put Hamburger Helper outside of that box. It's prepackaged pasta, meat, and sauce that you could make cheaper, better, and healthier yourself.
The higher the percentage of your diet that is stuff like that and boxed mashed potatoes, the worse off you will be.
Hamburger Helper doesn't come with meat... It's just noodles and a sauce mix, that you're meant to brown your own ground meat and add to. It's "helper", not "feature".
Someone who doesn't even know what Hamburger Helper is, probably isn't qualified to talk about the merits of Hamburger Helper.
Source: Amazon link to Hamburger Helper. Note that it says "Vegetarian" on the "Chili Macaroni", because it's JUST noodles and sauce, the picture just shows what you can make using those noodles and sauce.
Now, if you're for making your own pasta from grinding down your own flour, you're hardcore, but you do you. But it isn't prepackaged meat, that "hamburger" that the box is "helper"ing comes from your local butcher.
Yeah my bad, I just took a quick look at the instructions.
It's easy to make a much better sauce with tomatoes, garlic, onions, and the right spices. (Or alfredo sauce, whichever, with the appropriate ingredients, etc.) You can also get nutritionally superior pasta by itself if you don't want to make your own.
Do yourself a favor and make some "home made" hamburger helper.
Its a 100x better than that boxed crap.
Canadians rave about their kraft mac and cheese being so much better than americans, its still trash and i still dont eat it.
I was forced to use a taco seasoning packet from a kit for tacos the other week. Holy fuck half of it is just cellulose or something. Buy the spices and make your own taco seasoning and youll see these companies are making really inferior products lately, again trying to maximize profit.

I wont even go on about going out to eat, even if I could afford it most places just nuke some food in a microwave, its so fucking bland and not worth the money here with the junk tax that doesnt even get used on hospitals lmao. Not gonna lie, miss living back in ohio, going to giovannis getting a cheap greazy flat pizza. Bah, I have to make my own pizza up here to get anything like that. Canadians like thick chewy pizza dough, and it gets real old after a while.
I'm sure it's not as simple as that unless you only mean people starving themselves.
It's not. Hormones (insulin especially) play a huge role, and the body can actually be reluctant to shed unhealthy fat if it thinks it's going through a famine. That's why (whole food) keto and carnivore diets are so effective at weight loss despite to renouncing portion control completely.
People effectively lost weight long before keto, and you don't throw portion control to the wind on a keto diet. Hormonal imbalances can cause weight gain and those should be checked, but maintaining a caloric deficit will always result in losing weight. It's impossible for it not to do that.
It's far more what you eat, not how much.
OP already addressed that when he mentioned calorie-dense foods.
There's a History Channel competition show called Alone where they drop people off in the woods with some basic supplies and whoever lasts the longest wins a big cash prize. If it was more than calories in/calories out, every single competitor wouldn't end up losing weight in the exact same way at the exact same pace.
It is as simple as that. The body can't store energy that you burn or simply don't eat. Otherwise you would violate thermodynamics.
Give me any fat person, let me run their diet and exercise, and they will gain muscle and lose fat.
grabs popcorn with butter and cheese on it
continues to munch from the sidelines Y'all want any?
Y'all better be sure thats real American Butter and Cheese on that Real American Popcorn, not that yankee slop from them GMO fauci labs...
(I got promoted to American)
