Before the word "gooner" was abused by soyciety, gooner meant a guy who masturbates to porn too much. Not a guy who wants to enjoy eye candy in movies, TV shows and video games. And not a guy who doesn't want to see demoralizing hideous looking people for hours on his screen.

The reality is the ideal is like in the Biblical times. When a man is financially stable at around 18 - early 20s, he marries a girl who is about 15 or so.

I'm not going to get married so this is not personal to me, and as a Christian I'm not allowed to have sex as a single man. So this isn't some ulterior motive. I just think it's crazy to call it pedophilia when like you said the 17 year old example or when you have Joseph being likely late teens to early 20s and Mary likely being in the mid-teens and while God calls them righteous, modern day people would call Joseph a pedophile and Mary a victim which if you're calling something evil that God has blessed, that's dangerous territory. And Joseph and Mary were not the exception, this was the default for most of human history.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that if all of human civilization thought a certain way for 99% of our existence worldwide, with the West in the 20th century and beyond thinking something opposite, it's the West in the 20th century that is wrong. In Biblical times it would generally be closer to 30 for the men and 15-18 for the women to get married off. The pretty ones going the youngest for sure though. If your family was rich an 18 year-old boy could have "the pick of the litter" eh?

On must ask themselves; do I believe the Bible is true and the Word of God? Like actually believe it. I can give the simplest example, compare Overwatch to it's sequel. The amount of R34 and cosplay when Overwatch just released was mind blowing yet after dulling down the sequel, the player count dropped off with it.
It's not that sexy female characters MEAN you'll sell lots, but the PROCESS of making characters that appeal to your audience naturally puts you into the mindframe of thinking what else appeals to your audience.
Or maybe the corrolary; putting intentionally ugly characters in your game causes them to flop.
No one's going to spend their own time and money drawing art or making cosplay of uggos. You lose out on essentially free advertising from the (non-existent) fan base.
Character visual design has been taken over by 24 year old art history majors from universities who all think putting aesthetically pleasing female forms in gaming is designing for the male gaze, and who are all personally ugly, and emotional wrecks.
Studios won't fire these people because they are REALLY LOUD on social media, and, their bosses are all graduates of the same woke universities themselves, and tacitly agree with them.
This is killing game studios, but so far, no one is willing to do anything about it, and therefore small indie ships and solo devs are basically taking over gaming from the bottom up.
