So now he wants to commit acts of war against China and the rest of the world? I guess Israel really does want to start WW3.

I'm thinking right-wing talking heads want WW3 too. They seem quite upset over the lack of thousands of people being violently killed even if those people do hate us.

He's blockading the Gulf. China is one of the few nations that can freely pass the Gulf. China gets quite a bit of oil through the Gulf.

China is paying tolls and there are mines in the strait, so no they aren't getting free passage. Trump is closing the straight so they can sweep and remove mines, then they'll open it to everyone (including china) for free.

China is paying tolls

Says who?

Trump is closing the straight so they can sweep and remove mines, then they'll open it to everyone (including china) for free.

Not a single US ship has DARED to come anywhere CLOSE to the strait before the ceasefire. The only way to "open" the strait is by invading and taking control over the ENTIRE Iranian coast line. And then you still have the problem of drones and missiles raining down on you and any ship within the strait.

Are you seriously drinking Trumps kool-aid?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– DustyGoose 1 point 71 days ago +1 / -0

Newsweek reported that China and India paid about $2 million per ship for passage.

The US hasn't entered because of the mines, not because they fear the IRG in rubber rafts. It's good by the IRG for now, but they will get invaded like Trump said in the last sentence of the tweet.

If this goes as Trump says China will be very happy. I don't understand the fear mongering, if we have to worry about China everytime we do anything then they already control us.

▲ 2 ▼
– horstshort 2 points 71 days ago +2 / -0

The US hasn't entered because of the mines, not because they fear the IRG in rubber rafts.

Of course. That's why the carrier groups were positioned at max range.

The only way to "open" the strait is by invading and taking control over the ENTIRE Iranian coast line.

That's completely false. Generals always try to fight the last war. That being said, this war is not over until the SoH is actually open, which it obviously is not.

Further, the lack of inbound tankers is only now starting to hit other regions. The spike in prices at the pump has so far been price gouging, the actual cost increase hasn't hit yet. After the shortage of supply hits, it still has to go through refining and distribution. This wouldn't be a quick fix even if the Strait magically returned to normal in an instant.

There's more to it than that. Iran's intent is for only Iran to use the Strait. This action by DJT is to level the playing field so that either nobody can use it (first) or everybody can.

That's the war starting today, nothing else matters and being in no rush to get to this part was a strategic decision. Everyone expected it on day 1. Reasons for waiting are only starting to come into view; we'll see if it was a good decision.

I think there aren't any mines, simply because Iran relies on the entire waterway, too. Most mines aren't confined to a precise location. The major exception lie dormant on the bottom and (theoretically) launch themselves up into ships, under predetermined conditions. The best time for these to have been laid would have been when DJT first sent aircraft carriers, over a month before starting the war. These are the most expensive type of mine, and hopefully what Iran has the fewest of. Sweeping this type is also the hardest.

Certainly the region needed to be swept. (Or still does?)

Trump is closing the straight so they can sweep and remove mines, then they'll open it to everyone (including china) for free.

The U.S. does not own any mine removal ships and equipment anymore. They were deemed “useless and outdated equipment,” and not needed anymore.Imagine that shit

China can't freely pass, the commercial traffic that's normally 138 ships per day has been single digits since the war started. Yes this is an act of war but stop believing raghead propaganda.

China doesn't "freely pass," as measured by total volume through the Strait. Normal is 138 ships per day, it's been single digits since the war started. That's not "passing freely," no matter what raghead propaganda says.

I, Donald Trump, will close the Straight after threatening to genocide the Iranians only 72 hours prior if they didn't open the Straight. I remain in total control of the situation, as I have always been in control. I'm the boss. I'm the greatest. Get your Trump hats now at TrumpStore.com. For all their MASSIVE VICTORY and DESTROYING 190% OF IRAN'S MILITARY, American ships couldn't get close to the Iranian coast before the ceasefire. So how are they going to blockade anything?

I'm not sure how they were going to blockade at all, but probably pursuing ships and pirating them? If it isn't complete bluff.

Obviously American ships can freely interdict tankers once they pass the strait. They're kind of sitting outside the strait right now actually.

– AntonioOfVenice 4 points 71 days ago +4 / -0

If you exit the strait, you're still near Iranian waters. Also, I question the extent to which Murica can "freely interdict" Chinese ships, or whether they want to interdict Indian ships.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– AntonioOfVenice 5 points 71 days ago +5 / -0

I know close to nothing of the subject, but it is my understanding that you have to approach the ship. If a ship is heading from Iran to China, I think it's going to move east, and not south, so at the very least, anyone trying to pirate it (interdict is to pirate as kinetic action is to war, right) will have to approach the Iranian coast.

This war is primarily about "leveling London," financially. If you want to understand what's happening in the world, follow the money; always follow the money. When DJT says "no one will be allowed to extort the world," he's not talking about Iran. London has controlled it for 100 years, that's what he's aiming at.

Acts of war are not illegal. Maritime law is mostly not understood. Make no mistake, a blockade certainly is an act of war. This applies to US and Iran equally.

Notice that Iran is hypocritically complaining about US' blockade; they think only they can do that, apparently. This is a small part of why DJT was in no rush to start this part, which is still a questionable strategic decision.

But, So because his regime change, ever changing objectives, act of aggression toward them failed, everyone who didn’t start war and willing to pay Iran they're asking price to do business in the strait, is an act of aggression and an illegal act? But threatening them, bombing them, and trying to block the strait isn’t aggression or illegal? Detaining ships that paid in international waters or “interdict” however the hell he meant to use that word there? “I’ve instructed our navy to see and ‘authoritative prohibition’ every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran.”

"You let a mugger take your wallet? Instead of going after the mugger, we're going to hassle you. I figure, we hurt enough people the mugger already stole from, and the mugger will, I dunno, feel bad about it or something enough to stop mugging people. It's a perfect strategy!"

The strategists in the dark smoke-filled rooms I think must've switched to MJ, because they high as balls thinking this is viable.

Well why not. There's still a single digit percentage of Americans still trusting the plan, let's see if we can get it below 5%.

Zero Seats could be a reality in America by November.

I mean, this is actually the correct move strategically. They need to ensure Iran gets no toll fees so shutting down all traffic until they can open the straight does make sense. The problem is that 40% of the oil China receives comes through the straight. It'll be interesting to see how China reacts.
