They're hyping up Vance for '28 right now. Vance is trying to position himself as being against the war in Iran, yet in his very first interview with Shawn Hannity at the RNC (where Trump announced him as the VP nominee), Vance said that he fully supported attacking Iran. Hannity didn't even ask him that, he just volunteered it as one of his priorities. Now Vance wants Trump to take all the heat so he can play the "moderate" in two years.
