But, again, why? If it's Israel, they want a compliant America; I don't really see how an America in flames, hopeless, and angry at them plays into their hands.

I don't know the right explanation, but I sure know what the solution is. A new system of government, start from scratch, either through secession or "throwing off" the old one. Each individual has an inalienable right to reject all existing systems of government and form a new one (by himself or with others), otherwise he is choosing to be held prisoner by one country or another.
Time to start drafting some new constitutions. The old ones have failed to prevent collusion between the supposedly independent branches of government or to give the people a way to check their power. We can see how it happened and start by patching up those obvious problems.
