"Don't worry, we only go on ETHICAL tomb raids."

These people are actually insane. Their inability to distinguish fiction from reality is terminal.

Also just the way they write is like a reddit forum post.

"Nah, its just some forgotten crap".

They aren't even trying to write it like fantasy characters speaking. I have expect them to say some shit like Rizz or sigma or something. It's so modern.

I think the best way I've seen it described is as them writing themselves in cosplay. Like them playing D&D and not bothering with in character and out of character talk, just vaguely imagining that they look like a fantasy character while still being exactly the same.

I agree. I can buy ninjas who don't hide and succubi who don't have sex, but I can't buy thieves who don't steal, which is about as dumb as (if not dumber than) pirates who don't touch another pirate's treasure.

(I'm just trying to be funny here, apologies if it comes off as me being a smartass)

Pirates not wanting, as a general rule, to in-fight other pirates (and instead only hunt merchant vessels) makes sense. It's like how lions generally hunt antelope for food, not other lions.

which is about as dumb as (if not dumber than) pirates who don't touch another pirate's treasure.

That's easy to justify with a single word: hatred. Someone who turns to piracy because they hate the Spanish might not be interested in attacking anyone else, even if they aren't explicitly sanctioned as privateers by Spain's enemies.

The history of piracy is actually pretty interesting to dig into. They had a whole quasi-state going in the Carribean and were just as likely to recruit you as kill you, so there was definitely a moral code of some sort. From what I recall there wasn't a whole lot of inter-pirate competition and the closest you got was arguing about what to target during a particular season since a pirate ship was closer to a democracy in many cases than one might imagine.

"Thieves" as a fantasy concept has been preachy since at least the 20th century retellings of Robin Hood, where suddenly stealing was cool and heroic and awesome as long as you labelled them something vaguely evil like "the rich." Doesn't need to be about taxes or abusive royal powers, just "the rich bad, the poor good."

Which is directly how you create movements like the white women shoplifters who got started on tumblr, who think they are equal to him because they stole some makeup and tampons. And then circles back to shit like this, where its not "stealing" if it meets their made up criteria but they are still Badass Thieves anyway.

Tumblr white woman stealing movement?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 16 ▼
– Adamrises 16 points 1 year ago +16 / -0

Tumblr had an entire subculture of basic white girls who shoplifted, with entire lexicons, tutorials and culture about themselves. It was shockingly large for being an open criminal element, likely only allowed because of how little anyone took it seriously being a mix of women, who get off on all crimes, and them stealing mostly vanity goods.

Well yeah, but that's just nogs being nogs. They don't have enough higher thought process to create an entire ideology system to justify stealing, they just know they want it and thereby they should have it.

Back during Occupy Wall Street, the White trust fund kids camping out on a national bank's property told me with complete sincerity to go shoplift from the local grocery stores. I'm not even exaggerating. That was their platform—go steal from the grocery store. I know it's common now to associate shoplifting with viral videos of brown people swarming stores, but rich White Communists were very much encouraging this behavior for years.

We’ve all seen plenty of gaslighting crypto leftists try to tell people the game is mostly not woke, or woke doesn’t exist, or it doesn’t mean anything.

But the entire game is full of this shit, everyone can clearly see it, and there’s no doubting what “woke” means.

Good God, how the “what does woke even mean” bullshit immediately pisses me the fuck off. Such a lazy gaslight. Trying to frame it so I now have to please plead my case to YOU so you get to tell me all the reasons why reality isn’t reality and I’m just crazy. Fuck all of those cunts, they know EXACTLY what woke “even means”. That genie is NOT going back in the bottle

It pisses you off because gaslighting is psychological abuse, and you are reacting instinctually to an attack.

I think for at least some of them it's a case of a fish not understanding water. Most of the them it's malicious gaslighting, but not all of them. Many normies out there are just lapping this up and not even aware of the fact that the environment they inhabit has been changed over the years, they're just oblivious.

In the hands of a non-leftist, this premise would be fine. A conflict between an adventurer-archaeologist and an outsider who thinks he's no better than a common thief and grave robber is good. But theirs has the stink of leftist writing all over it, so it sucks.

I’m honestly glad I never got into Dragon Age as a franchise. I played some of the first one when it came out but eventually bounced off it and never went back. I can image the absolute smug look of the writers as they were coming up with this too. There are two things about the team that made this I can guarantee. First they tell themselves and anyone that listens how good of a person they are. Second they are also the absolute shittiest people you would ever have the misfortune of meeting.

The first Dragon Age had a few genuinely interesting story ideas and mostly decent characters and writing. The second one was an embarrassing rush job with the first hints of woke BioWare. Inquisition was a painfully boring slog in service of a painfully boring narrative.

So yeah, you didn’t miss much.

“I mean, aren't you though” The “I mean” is pointless here. “You aren’t?” Would sound better, convey the same information, be faster, and cost less to voice.

The entire dialogue is awful. When I play an RPG I want to be immersed into another world with a different yet recognizable speech pattern. Instead what we get here is something akin to "OMG the king is such a chud!" "Ding ding ding! We have a winner! Maybe if he was, I dunno, like a decent human being, things would be better. But right now it's like 'yikes!'."

Even the decades old Ultima series had lines like "'Tis my worst fear! I must send thee to a dangerous place! Hail, Avatar!" And I liked that just fine; I would even be willing to look up words that I never heard before because they just aren't widely used today.

Umm, like, yaknow, it's, like, how all, like, ancient Californians talked like. I mean, come on man, it's like, totally skibidi-rizz to, like, talk like this is a medieval setting.

Who even defines if it is "forgotten crap" or not? It's a necromancy-existent setting. Some boneman can come in and voodoo dance up a ghost who goes "Oooh, my favorite comb! And my toy figure of a puppy, I loved that thing!". Or, the boneman can do that five minutes later and have a very angry and sad ghost asking where its comb or statuette are.

Nature of necromancy-friendly settings, no one short of necromancers themselves can be "ethical" tomb raiders, because no one short of necromancers can confirm there is no souls, no spirits, no undead, no lingering emotive karma poltergeists, that could, in theory, at any point into the future, form over the objects in question.

And arguably, even that's no good, because a completely new and disparate culture could insist those artifacts are theirs. This happens all the time in real life, native tribes claiming native land that when looked into, they totally killed the prior residents and only "held" the land for a couple months or years.

– raptor_jesus 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

Nah. Not in Thedas, actually. The Necromancers deal with spirits, not souls. The one Necromancer in your party is an extreme outlier in being able to talk to the dead, well more let them talk to the living. It seems to be one way. He's the only one who can do it and it's probably a plot point why he can. Spirits and demons aren't the result of people dying (directly). Necromancers call spirits to posses dead bodies and keep bodies in good shape. Basically Ethical Abominations where no person's will is subverted and the spirit can be easily forced out from.

Did bioware really think people would buy into THE MESSAGE, after seeing the uniform and total financial failure of every woke media released in the past 4 years? Are they really that inept, incompetent, retarded and ignorant?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but EA needs to put bioware in the grave with so many other studios they have killed.

Financial success is a complete non-issue for this stuff. It can go hundred of millions in the hole and it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is propagating The Message as much as possible so as to saturate the entire media landscape. What does it matter if no one buys your game when The Message is now present in all options on the market? The kids growing up today will have no concept of there being a media landscape that does not contain The Message so they'll just passively accept and internalize it by default. At that point our enemies have achieved their goal and won a culturally victory. What does the financial loss matter to any of them at that point?

This is a religious war and you'd best start analyzing it as such if you hope to win.
