Imagine a world where the owners of an IP actually appealed to the fans of the IP. I know sometimes you can expand your customer base with certain products but certainly not when you try to do it at the expense of loyal customers.

If Disney had a few braincells left (and that's REALLY up for debate) The Acolyte hopefully served as their 'all in on leftism' example where they didn't hold back so they could go 'well, you make use no money whatsoever so why bother listening to you?'
Compare that with Deadpool and Wolverine, they KNOW the winning formula and they can easily make a Gambit and Wesley Snipes Blade films for massive money if they basically follow what Ryan Reynolds does instead of Kathleen Kennedy.
The question is: can they even ditch the woke shit or has the rot reached too much of the head of the snake?
Personally I hope they continue down this path and crash and burn.
No, they literally cannot. Because the woke shit is now important canon in the story. So even if they change course, the woke shit will still require being acknowledged and worked with in every future property.
To retcon it, would require a full admission of wrong doing (something these companies will never do) and a massive PR backlash from the people who control social media (making it seem far more powerful and deadly than it is). Which is the only actual option for course correction.
Stories don't matter. They can do ANYTHING with the story.
The problem are the people at Disney. When everyone at Disney is woke there's nobody left to turn things around. There's nobody who could write better stories. There's nobody who could hire people who'd write better stories. There's nobody who could hire better HR. There's nobody to appoint better management.
In Canadian universities they hire DEI candidates and then they force everyone to lie and say she was hired off merit.
this same brainwashing is probably happening at Disney.
yep, its an entire "there are 4 lights" scenario within society at large.
Gotta love using a Star Trek ref. in a Star Wars thread...
This is Star Wars, the fans they "betrayed" literally created the modern version of the obsessive fanbase that catalogues and cares far too much about every minute detail of canon.
That's the people they would be trying to get back by removing the woke shit, which means the story does matter more than anything else.
Disney has much bigger problems than just LucasFilm. Just turning Star Wars around isn't enough to save them. Lurker is right. Disney's real problem is their board of directors and their executives.
The only way that could be saved would be if Disney entirely gave up on it and sold the SW IP to someone who hates the sequels and was a fan of the old stuff the mouse decanonized. But only if the new owner could avoid shoving real world politics into their fictional world.
Point is, you can't save one IP owned by a corrupt empire (hehe) run by cultists, retards, and psychopaths.
Attempting to fix Star Wars without fixing Disney is akin to saying that the Cleveland Browns are just a few draft picks away from winning the Super Bowl. They aren't. The "draft picks" don't matter, because the ownership making them doesn't know what the fuck they are doing.
Well obviously. That went without saying. Disney is corrupted to the brim on every level.
But I took his question as "can they ditch the woke shit (and save Star Wars)" which is a hearty no for the reasons stated. Because asking if Disney can be saved is completely naive to even entertain such a joke.
Then you had massive expanded universe fans like myself that they told to piss off
Even with a course correction, I don’t think the OG fans would trust them. Disney squandered the last chance to bring all three original characters back together. Star Wars is dead and needs to be buried, not paraded around like a corpse puppet on strings.
That's they're biggest crime innthe end.
Stories are immortal and IP laws are fake and gay. Star Wars will always live on due to those facts.
But the big three reuniting is an opportunity that HAS been squandered forever with no possible recourse. That chance is gone forever.
And why? Because it would have been "derivative" too "expected".
Well quite. I got married recently, but I plan to never have sex with my wife cause that'd be too cliche.
We can't make people happy, that's WAY to obvious.
I hate the whole subversion of expectations. It can be done well but to praise something simply because it’s different is stupid. Critics saying “well everyone expected Luke to be heroic”. In Game of Thrones the showrunners said they couldn’t have Jon kill the Night King because it was expected.
I forget which reviewer or TLJ it was who said the whole movie being jar jar links jerking off of on John Wayne's grave would also be unexpected.
all they had to do was make the thrawn trilogy. they could have easily added some younguns to the cast to set them up for the future.
To be fair, that also sounds retarded and awful in its own way. Not everything needs to be time travel and multiverse stuff. Most stories are better off without it. Hell, even the medium famous for it (superhero comics) would probably be better off if it was used a lot more sparingly and more consequentially (although the "internal consistency" and "consequences" issues with superhero comics are basically a hole with no bottom at this point. Overuse of the multiverse and time travel is hardly their only issue). Star Wars of all things is not a property that time travel and parallel universes belong in.
Also, Ahsoka is a fun character but she does not need to be in literally every Star Wars plotline.
It's still a step up from the sequels, but that's hardly a high bar.
That just makes it worse. If they started it after it became clear they'd need a retcon button, one could try to excuse it as trying to work with what they had. Since they started it before that was the case, it means that they actually thought building towards time travel and alternate timelines and multiverse stuff that never needed to be in Star Wars was a good idea on its own.
I remember thinking after the massive positive reaction that Luke’s appearance at the end of Mando season 2 that it was the perfect time to retcon stuff. I’m a huge fan of the expanded universe and thought it was dumb to just wipe it out instead of continuing it in its own continuity. I remember someone tried to get me to watch Ashoka saying the have elements of Heir to the Empire. I would just rather see an adaptation of it than Disney’s bastardized version.
I’ve heard that Favreau hated TLJ
Anyone with a functioning brain hates the entire Disney Trilogy. Based off the first season of Mando (the only season that exists IMO) Favreau has a love for the universe, so it would hit him doubly hard.
Yea I didn’t like it. Granted after reading the EU stuff for years I didn’t care for the direction they took but the fact they couldn’t reunite the big three and have them pass the torch is crazy. Han and Leia can’t be together, Luke’s Jedi school doesn’t make it in the show and they couldn’t show him being at least a little heroic.
The character assassination of the original three is unforgivable and indicative of the post-modern rot that has infected the “creatives”. I know everyone says left wingers make the best art, but I feel that tide has already changed. Deconstruction of tropes and subversion of expectations are now the expectation. In the same way it was revolutionary and surprising for trump to pick a white dude VP, it is surprising for a film to have a white guy BE THE HERO.
Jesus save us, modernity has failed us.
Ryan Reynolds had to trick Disney to keep as much woke shit out of of DP&W as possible.
He even filmed scenes with both She-hulk and Captain Marvel on purpose, just to completely toss them in post.
Either way, mass firings need to happen
They can burn to the ground
Or purge and orientate themselves to follow the example of the recently successful film and give audiences what they WANT.
Find Abigail Disney and throw her in a Yellowstone geyser in Minecraft
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t think to bring Snipes back for Blade sooner. Those movies were well liked. At least the first two. When it comics to comics, fans of super hero comics skews heavily male. Also it seems that women like seeing strong male superheroes as well. Female superheroes who exist to upstage males aren’t popular. Who would’ve thought.
If I was Disney I’d do a clean slate with Star Wars. Like you said, they went all in on this crap and got nothing. Maybe an animated Heir to the Empire adaptation to start
When did Snipes have legal issues with the IRS as I can't blame ANYONE being scared to involve him for a while when you had them close by..
There is a Youtube documentary on this.
Turns out his accountant was fucking him over and the government went after him anyway as a quick famous patsy to scare people into paying their taxes.
Oh yea. Good point
I would be only one voice but I am a woman and Superman is my favorite superhero (Reeves was my first favorite movie-wise) I have a few superman comics as well. I loved Star Wars (OT & PT), Star Trek Next Gen. I only watched Buffy for the guys (Spike/Angel) and I love some Die hard. I loved Batman with Michael Keaton first! Then of course Christian Bale.
I watch it to see men do bad ass shit and for the women to fall in love.
Superman is my favorite comic book as well (him and Spidey). If you haven’t read them yet, you may want to try the Star Wars EU (pre-Disney) of course. I enjoyed the dynamic of Superman and Lois.
But you prove the point that there were already women who like it as is.
My friends have suggested the EU as well, it’s on my list! Maybe once my kids are older I’ll get the time to get invested again. It just solidifies the fact that the EU was popular, so many suggesting it to me. I’m excited!
I got a few spoilers here and there and I much prefer a lot of how the EU took the main characters. I hate how Han Solo was ended in the sequels so much. I could go on and on about it, but I’m pretty sure I’m preaching to the choir on how much I hate the sequels.
Enjoy! I think you will like them. Also, as a lifelong comic book collector I can tell you that you can find a ton of Superman comics for pretty cheap.
The trouble is that the "good" movies have woke in them, just not much compared to the shit. So it's just another way of advancing the dialectic. It's either a lot of woke or just a little.
There's actually nothing wrong with having woke in films, it matters how it's portrayed
One of my favourite films, Demolition Man ,is essentially set in a woke world, but because it portays it as an authoritarian suffocating society just with a nice coat of paint, it works really well.
There is because it's an admission that the messaging is ok as long as it's entertaining.
That recent rom com with two white leads that did really well. Anyone but you or something. I saw about 5 minutes of it as I walked through a room . The background characters were walking progressive billboards.
Speaking of Deadpool, in the sequel the pedofile bad guy (very non diverse henchmen btw) in the ending confrontation's first phrase was "they will not replace us" something which was so obviously a progressive phrase referencing Charlottesville despite making no sense in context or the movie or other characters even reacting to it. Then immediately after Deadpool overtly fellates another Man but that's ok because haha woke indoctrination funny.
"Entertainment" is not the deciding factor for woke propaganda, drag shows are not magically ok for children if they're just really entertaining. They're wrong period.
A small, meaningless victory in a clown world that is ramping up to whole new heights.
The honkening
I’m amazed that they still have someone who cares enough about making money to cancel it. It has the be glaringly obvious to anyone actually researching marketing that woke stuff does not make money.
Should be, but then look at the over representation of the lgbt crowd. You’d think that they would realize most people are straight so why cater to a tiny minority. They can’t help themselves I guess
They would realise that, but at this point all the people in marketing are themselves giant faggots.
And that was that...
I read a joke that Gen Alpha will think Firefly was a show that ran for 2 complete seasons instead of a show that was cancelled after half a season.
Turns out the only thing worse than the shows that made it to air were the ones that didn't, and the TV execs we all hated actually knew what they were doing all along.
14 episodes for half a season?
Stargate had 22 per season.
And 2 of those never aired, the rest aired out of order, and Fox kept changing the timeslot so anyone who did like it couldn't find it, couldn't follow it, and had no idea if it was any good beyond the two episodes they managed to catch before it was cancelled. (Speaking from experience as someone who did actually try to watch it when it aired.)
Firefly was sabotaged because one of the board members at Faux hated Scifi so much they didn't want it to succeed.
Womp womp.
oh no
ahahahahaha How was this even made? I mean, I know why, but at some point in the chain did anyone think "this might not be popular, we might lose money"?
But again, I know why.
Yep, profit isn't the point of propaganda.
Avolyte's failure has more to do with their inability to think small. If you want to make a product meant to cater to a smaller customer base it can work if you adapt you budget to something small enough to expect that many customers.
So if they went into that project going "ok we're gonna shit on the IP, ignore everything in the existing universe's history, and we plan to alienate the fantasy. Make a solid story catering to fat trans lesbian trisexual furries but keep it under 100 million in budget." They would have been fine.
I get far more enjoyment watching the stories about left wing cult media begin destroyed, going broke, being cancelled and failing than I do from the material it even used to represent. It is so satisfying watching their world implode.
I guess they figured it was best to stop at the power of one.
lol
IMPOSSIBLE. IT WAS SUPER POPULAR THEY SAID
But it was just reviewbombing!

He is hilarious
Cinemablend just dropped an article about how it's "such a shame to hear this" because the turd gargler of a writer they employ got emotionally invested in having the cliffhangers resolved and was hopeful they'd include a young Palpatine, even though that would fuck up the timeline by a few decades. It reads like a love letter some 15 year old would drop in his lover's locker after being dumped.
"...Still, given how the Star Wars franchise is one of the key cornerstones of the Mouse House’s streaming service, I assumed that would have given The Acolyte some leeway to run at least another season, if not several. Clearly I was wrong... I sincerely hope that Star Wars doesn’t abandon this corner of the franchise. Namely, it’s be great if these cliffhangers could be resolved in either a book, a series of books or a comic series... These are questions that deserve to be answered rather than just ignored."
nothing of value was lost
