I just commented the Trump verdict is going to kill NY business relationships and Scott Adams is already saying he will no longer do business in New York (twitter.com)

while no one cares about Scott Adams, something like a trucking or shipping embargo could really fuck them up.

I have been assured by many progressive types that New York doesn't need the rest of the country and would prefer to be without them.

I think a little of that would go down well to put things in perspective when they consider their votes should be weighted twice as high as other citizens votes for all their big city clout and know-it-all.

Without New York, who will gamble invest your retirement money into financial derivatives? Think of all the value they bring shuffling paper around (usually into their own pockets).

It is weird how they believe that. I've had that argument out too. They think as long as they have money they will have food brought to them.

The thought is, generally speaking, true. The amount of money needed will go up and up, but there are enough mercenary Americans who will, eventually, for enough money, help New Yorkers.

For 5k, some druggie with a motorbike over in New Jersey will Uber Eats your meal to you in NY.

So they aren't wrong on the surface level, but the question is how long can the supporting structure, the poor and downtrod supporting class of NY, stand it?

Yeah... but once it starts to break down people would intercept that uber guy before he got to your house. Maybe he would shoot them, like the delivery driver in Snow Crash. Maybe they'd shoo thim.

I guess Gazan elites have food. That's all I can think of right now to compare.

Pratchett died too early.

Imagine the endless carts of goods not coming and going from Ankh-Morpork any more.

Sam Vimes would have the very best on that case working their magic!

But I think he'd also like to question Rincewind and Twoflower over their apparent appearance on a certain Flight 11 which was unaccounted for.

It doesn't matter really because while the state can look after itself without the city, the state cannot look after itself and the city together.

However those saying it generally are in the city and have likely never left it unless by air.

Kevin O'Leary has been refusing to invest in NY since the Trump real estate suit trial. This is just yet another reason to not do business in NY/NYC. Dilbert alone isn't going to do much but I don't think he's alone.

A blue-collar action would certainly hit them harder but bleeding out businesses will still hurt in the long run.

Yeah this isn't the first or last nail in that coffin. They will make it suck more and more until more people refuse. And then these states tend to go through a 'business friendly' period where more fortunes are made.

It was the same thing with California population. Amidst Great Replacement it never shrank. Until it did. It sucked more and more until even immigrants said it's greener elsewhere.

If you guys thought bud light and target were wins, well New York just made themselves more radioactive to businesses than any child tuck bathing suit or tranny beer ever could.

When Rush Limbaugh left NY, the state leadership basically said "good riddance" (interesting how they target a private citizen). Then every year following Rush's departure, the state forced him to prove that he did not operate a business in NY.

We have a larger version of this happening in China, when you can't guarantee personal assets can be protected from party politics, those assets will move elsewhere.

There aren't any notable individuals or entities in New York who know who this guy is, much less do any business with him, but I'm sure we can all appreciate this performative statement.

He lives in Pleasanton, CA according to his Twitter profile. That's in the greater Bay area, southeast of Berkeley and San Francisco proper.

He likes to play bullshit word games. You'll be able to find his products in NY, but it'll be technically true that he's not personally doing business there because it's his publisher doing it.

On top of all the other reasons to not do business in NY.

You can, but you have to pay the bribes. Trump did when he worked there. Then he quit, and they're chasing after him vindictively. That's a simple explanation for what's happening that I think is accurate but not complete.

But governed by laws made by deep blue urbanites. This verdict, and the way it was orchestrated, effects the whole state. If a businessman can become a felon for what is a standard and legal business practice, the integrity of New York State's entire financial system is completely undermined.

Why would this be a problem? The bullshit about the bank loan was much more a "don't do business here unless everyone involved is of the correct political views" than this recent news.

And that was civil court. Now a convicted perjurer who admitted to stealing from his client he was testifying against can be the star witness and get you convicted of a felony. This trial is asinine for many reasons but that one alone will scare of anyone who thinks about retaining a NY lawyer or accountant

You aren't missing much. Aside from some of the touristy locations, NYC is just another city, and not really worth the hassle.

I live an hour or so away and I've only been there twice in the last four years.

I had to spend a couple of weeks in the town years ago, and the smell alone means I can never eat Chinese food again. Apparently every inch of NYC is downwind of a shitty Chinese buffet and an overflowing dumpster.

"Just another city"?! If it were just another city, then you could film in Toronto or Vancouver every scene meant to be New York and no one would tell a difference! Avengers took place in New York and you can see all the major New York attractions as the camera zooms by at street level like... Honest Ed's Canadian Emporium.
