A pragmatic power fantasy as the hospital administrator: Anyone posting TikTok videos on hospital premises will be immediately fired. If you have time for that bullshit, then you aren’t serving patient needs.
Side note: anything less than “total freedom to text at all times while working” is a non-starter for zoomer employees. I’ve seen this sea change in several industries now. Young employees expect that they will be permitted to use their phones without interruption for the entirety of their work day. It’s insane, but that’s the reality of the labor market right now.

I used to be an academic scientist. I think it’s honestly more a product of all scientists (male or female) wanting desperately to be viewed as “cool” instead of being viewed as the dweebs they truly are.

I think any actual scientists left are probably in the private sector in things like Space X, Pharmaceuticals and defence contractors.
Anyone else with the title of scientist in the western world tend to be jokes even compared to snakeoil salesmen.
The number of people in “high IQ professions” has massively increased over time while the actual distribution of high IQ people has largely remained constant. The end result is way more non-geniuses with genius credentials; professions that were once considered signifiers of high intelligence are now dominated by midwits and idiots.
It’s also because higher degrees have become so devalued…
Masters is the new Bachelors. PhD is the new Masters. And yet the number of actually useful things one can do a PhD in has remained largely the same. Hence the utter devaluation of the qualification…
I went to a PhD information session where I was essentially told that if you wanted funding, and to “do well”, you would pick from this list of topics your (woke) faculty had pre-ordained, and take whatever supervisor they recommended you…
Higher level academia was never meant to work like that. That’s a recipe for disaster…
But, gotta keep churning out those grads, I guess!

I don't really see this as much of a negative. LIke, its cringe but who doesn't enjoy a dance every now and then for shits or giggles. As long as its on your own time and not trying to make some gay political statement or broadcast your rape through it.
The nurse issue was they were doing it while simultaneously claiming to be overworked and exhausted, which is contradicted by the time and energy spent on the dance.
I'm sure the winners would change my mind, but on its nose fuck it why not.
Nothing screams scientific expertise like a competition of interpretive dancing judged entirely on subjective merits rather than concrete and explicit standards of accuracy.
Here's what it would look like if they were honest.
Generally: What people forget that Scientists are human as well. And often not the best one.
They are often geeks who were bullied at school, have no idea how to talk to women, or are even still virgins.
This kind of people's identity and their ego is build on their PhD title. They are petty, are trained to trust only in was what told to them in school, by the books and have often no real real life experience. They often want to be right so badly that they are blinded by their ego.
Or, in the case of female PhDs, they never actually struggled that much for “popularity”, but are still insecure, so have decided they are “smort”, and deserve academic recognition for their weird niche pursuits…
I know someone who is pursuing a PhD in “musicology”. She’s really not a nice person to be around, but then again, she’s thought the sun shines out of her own arse for at least a decade, so… Yeah.
Ironically was quite a nice person when we were younger, but then something changed (I never figured out exactly what, so I can only guess), and her whole personality did a 180, and she developed an ever-bigger ego. Not the only girl I know who that happened to (all academic “high achievers”, not coincidentally), but I try not to think about it too much…
This is certainly one way for a PhD to assert that, OP...
