I have a lot more apathy towards Iran, China, and Russia after spending the last three years watching western “democracies” shit all over their own citizens. Our governments are in no position to lecture anyone.

I read an old article recently about how "young radicalized men" were sympathizing with the Taliban after the US evacuation of Afghanistan. She literally thought a bunch of dudes were ideologically aligning with the Taliban. The writer clearly could not grasp that many many people had a little laugh when Western imperialism got its nose bloodied just a little bit. And if she couldn't understand that, how could she ever understand much of the world doesn't care for American neo-Liberalism/ Conservatism?

It's hilarious and sad how things have shifted. These same people would have actually sympathized with Vietnamese communists back in the day. Meanwhile, I'm against both those wars because I don't like interventionism, not because I like communists or the Taliban.

But, yeah, apparently you hate America if you want them out of the Middle East now? Or if you don't want war in Ukraine? I wish the left would go back to pretending to be anti-war.

hate America if you want them out of the Middle East now?

Yes. This is not implied, it is directly stated. If you do not support the export of "American" ideas to the rest of the world, you are un-American. Of course, what is meant by American ideals is a very specific worldview put forth by various progressive politicians an NGOs. The same approach is used while discussing threats to "democracy." In both cases they are referring to the policies of the progressive regime.

Neither is peterson. Everyone knows that if they weren't making a shit-ton off of wars for the past 50 years, they could've used a nuke on the entire middle east and made that entire place a giant walmart by now. Iran may be run by terrible people, but to all politicians it's a free source of cash.

I wish anyone who advocates for war has to enlist to serve in the war they want. That would be great.

I know we're talking about "regime change," not war, but realistically Iran isnt going to get toppled without a war. If it were possible to remove the government without US military intervention the CIA would have done it by now.

I mean, even fucking Saddam had enough loyalty to trigger a war and not some fantasy grassroots revolution.

Similar applies who sends troops into combat. You can only vote for a military intervention or declare war if you have served in such a conflict.
No more presidents and politicians (and women hi @ imp!) who decide which men get to die for which cause without knowing what war is like.

Isn't that what put the Ayahtollahs in power in the first place?

The only business we have in Iran is to apologize to it's people for our part in their tyrannical government.

Unironically, sort of yes… Albeit indirectly.

It put the Shah back in power (by toppling the previous democratic government), who, somewhat emulating royal families elsewhere (let’s be honest, *pretty much everywhere) proceeded to suppress the opposition and generally run the country vaguely like a kleptocracy…

Hence, the revolution, around 20 years later, in which Khomeini promised to overthrow the Shah, and install what is now the regime…

Then Khomeini betrays his (less fundamentalist) allies, sets up the Revolutionary Guard, and turns Iran into a theocracy…

Literally the way this almost always goes.

See also: China, Cambodia (probably the most fucked up example), Russia in 1917, and fucking Weimar…

But you can go back to the French Revolution and the Terrors, or indeed some of what Cromwell did after the English Civil War, for much earlier examples…

It’s worth noting that the British played as big of a role in all that as the US. Because oil/geopolitics…

Not the first time, and not the last time, of course. British adventurism in the 20th Century had just as significant consequences as its US equivalent (as did the French, and less so the Portuguese and Dutch). It’s just that they were already well on the decline by the time we are talking about. Unlike the US…

He's definitely gotten worse since joining Daily Wire. He's pretty much repeating Ben Shapiro's thoughts, and become just another neocon zogbot. It's a shame, because his college lecture videos on psychology were quite good.

You'd expect more people to wake up and see the sudden lense on Iran as what it is: yet another angle to weaken Russian by attacking its allies. I hate Islam, I do not like Iran but currently is not the time to weaken Russia more and make them do something dangerous for the whole world. We could've talked about Iran and how much of a shithole it is but now it's clear as day anti Russia stuff, almost as if bad things happen in any country and when it's finally time to attack someone then some letter agency is astroturfing some movement from nothing against said government. Sure, its been a shithole for decades but now that Russia is again the bad guy? Let's attack anyone who is their allies. Fucking hell, are they all so blind?!

JP doesn't get it and from the way he's going in recent times I am no longer surprised by that fact.

For the sake of argument, any chance this is out of context? (EDIT: It isn't out of context.)

On the one hand, his stumbling over "misogynistic" makes me think he's reading.

On the other hand, it would be weird to start a quote that early, and include the call to action to write politicians, and it also has Peterson's standard "uhs" and "you knows" as well as his general verbosity. I think this side outweighs the other, and I'm inclined to believe this is him sharing his own thoughts.

And if this is representative of his views, no thanks. Also, as the top comment says...he's welcome to sign up for military service if he cares so strongly. You first, buddy.

Ah, gotcha. My bad; saw the quoted text, but thought that it was just a highlighted dumb comment, not from Peterson himself. What a weirdo.

Opposition to "pushing over" Iran is not de facto support for "Iranian theocracy."

What is with all these "intellectuals" getting so far up their own asses they can't use basic logic?

They're the biggest terrorists in the region, they scare the shit out of their Sunni neighbors, and they're a source for non American oil for China.

The funny thing is, pushing back Iran is what got Donald Trump his Middle East peace deal. Well, it would have gotten him Middle Eastern peace. So there are definitely benefits here.
