That 'design' is retarded and about as creative as I would expect from some diversity-hire shitbrain that thinks changing a characters skin color to black is a monumental achievement.
Mr Adjaye has designed more buildings than I have, so maybe he knows something I don't, but I'd still have to ask: "Why?"
I don't think there is any structural reason for this - it's going to suffer greater stresses than a conventional skyscraper that can run its supports straight down into the foundations. Aesthetically, it's obscene - the last thing you should want your skyscraper to do is loom over the people below it, as if it's about to collapse. Economically, New York does not need another developer targeting the most expensive types of real estate at the expense of the real estate the city actually needs to function.
Almost everything I've found so far trying to justify it is limited to identity politics: it's designed by a black person to be built by a majority black team, for minority- and female-owned companies, with a facade resembling afro combs. Maybe it's for the sake of the plaza garden, but again I think that would rather be spoiled by having the skyscraper hanging over you like the Sword of Damocles.
The tower floors are most likely hung rather than held--so each floor will be a cantilevered off of a super massive concrete and steel support column. Imagine that behind the facade (which tricks you into thinking the floors are solid and resting on each other) there is instead a little suspension bridge, and the floors are all hung.
It's not at all even slightly creative, and it's not even that difficult to accomplish, architects cantilever shit all the time. It's a practically a fetish for architects now.
I'm gonna be absolutely shocked at it's eventual collapse in 20 years.
Humorously the cause probably won't even be the ugly top-heavy and asymmetrical design. The math for that is probably correct. What they're not accounting for, what they never account for, is the mounting degeneracy of our people and especially corporate class.
What brings this tower down will probably be something really stupid related to cost-cutting which is so rampant in current year, like unstable ground around the foundation, or concrete which wasn't dried properly.
As a tower built to generate tourist revenue during an economic downturn, a tower designed to showcase "the future" for cheap political points, you just know theyre gonna be going breakneck speed and cutting every corner to get this thing done on time, shiny, and under-budget, just for the revenue and to prove a point. And its going to backfire.
what they never account for, is the mounting degeneracy of our people and especially corporate class
This. It's not "built by" an African American, just designed by one. But the same identity politics obsession that would put forward and praise such a design has surely wound its tentacles around the construction and maintenance areas too. And that obsession is just a symptom of corruption.
It's not going to collapse, the floors are hung from a central column which is more or less centered through the floors. What it will have is the same maintenance schedule as a major bridge.
And that maintenance has to be paid for, which will make rent even more ridiculous than it already is in Manhattan, and there is no lack of vacant spaces. What happens if it sits at 20% occupancy for an extended period of time? I'd wager corners get cut on maintenance.
A bridge is more difficult to arrange because of the length of the span. Each hung floor is relatively small. The support column and its subsidiaries only need to handle the flexion of a weather in a manner already common for other towers. It's not a special design in anyway, just sort of self aggrandizing and ugly.
You're optimistic with the two decade figure. Last majority pOc construction project collapsed before it was completed. And then they blamed the nearest huwyte draftsman.
Architects are already known for building shit that makes no sense, is impractical, impossible to maintain, etc. just for the lulz, ignoring that tradition in building stuff is not random, we just know what works.
If this building ever gets made, has 1 or 2 jets smash into it, and the whole thing goes to smithereens...there will be less 'conspiracy theories' to go around, I'll give 'em that.
OK, I can see this is going to be a future star of When Big Things Go Wrong or other similar construction-disaster shows. I love fail!construction shows.
Dystopian garbage. If you worked there you'd spend most of your day on elevators, the shafts of which filled most of the ground floor. If there were a need to evacuate, you'd hit a bottleneck at every floor you descended.
Even going into the tower, or traveling past its right side is bad juju. Like walking under a ladder.
Nonsense. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture designed the Central Park Tower, completed in July 2021. All three of its partners are white men. Kohn Pederson Fox designed the One Vanderbelt building, completed in September 2019. Its President is a white man. The JP Morgan Chase World HQ, under construction by Foster + Partners. Norman Foster is a white man. Brooklyn Tower, JDS Development Group, Michael Stern, white man. And so on.
She lied, got pumped up by feminist-friendly media, who didn't accept any of the blame for treating her like the second coming of Christ.
It's rather interesting who was involved in it all, Mattis being there makes me wonder about a lot of things. Did he get a cut of what Holmes made? Was he the More Feminine Way's plant in Trump's military?
When it all fell apart, she blamed the nearest man and tried to pin everything on him, calling him a sadistic rapist who tortured her.
The only surprising part about the case was that her tactic didn't work.
I think you once predicted that she would not be convicted. But I am not sure about this one.
It's rather interesting who was involved in it all, Mattis being there makes me wonder about a lot of things. Did he get a cut of what Holmes made? Was he the More Feminine Way's plant in Trump's military?
There's a lot of folks from politics in there, including Henry Kissinger. It's got nothing to do with politics and everything with $$$$$$$.
All jokes aside, I've worked on buildings in Jersey City, which used to be swamps and landfill. NYC I can't even imagine since the whole island is sinking.
But basically, I've talked to the general contractors and the guys who pound the pylons into the soil. They say there's practically just as much steel going down into the ground for support than above it. So a 50 story building has nearly 50 stories of steel going downward too. They were pounding steel on one site and they said some of them were just "falling" into the ground never to be seen again.
Fuck all these buildings. People are crazy to live in them.
It has a tinge of 80s glass and steel on the top 3 sections of windows overlooking the water, which means I want to like that part, but it's just a tinge and that's not enough to forgive sheer fucking ugly hubris in the design. That thing looks like a cross between a kang and an african yoruba idol .
Can anyone explain how the top looking like its roughly double the size of the base isnt an immensly DANGEROUS idea and that anyone who seriously designed this shouldnt be sent directly to gay jail?
I saw this in another thread and thought it was a joke.
Don't worry this will never actually get built. if it does it'll get modified to a normal building in the process. Some things are just too stupid to happen.
The design is black culture, complaining about the small white ground floor while it collapses under its own arrogance.
Everyone inside even in the concept picture is black too. It's the Wakanda Tower and from the name I expected the trannies.
That 'design' is retarded and about as creative as I would expect from some diversity-hire shitbrain that thinks changing a characters skin color to black is a monumental achievement.

He knows what all architects know: how to make buildings as ugly as possible.
neo architecture is more like fashion, prove me wrong
But why though? It's just ugly.
I'm gonna be absolutely shocked at it's eventual collapse in 20 years.

i doubt that accounts for weather and total weight.

Have you seen The Towering Inferno..?
Because this is how you get The Towering Inferno… 😑
You know how they love to subvert expectations. You expect buildings not to be bigger at the top and to be symmetrical, so they they did the opposite.
You’d think black people would have made it a little thicker on the bottom.
Architects are already known for building shit that makes no sense, is impractical, impossible to maintain, etc. just for the lulz, ignoring that tradition in building stuff is not random, we just know what works.
But this is especially retarded.
its official now: the hipsters are in charge of neoarchitecture
I mean a 9/11 from woke incompetency was bound to happen. All I can say say is you should have known better.
If this building ever gets made, has 1 or 2 jets smash into it, and the whole thing goes to smithereens...there will be less 'conspiracy theories' to go around, I'll give 'em that.
Don't even need a jet. A car could probably topple that thing with how tiny the base is.
OK, I can see this is going to be a future star of When Big Things Go Wrong or other similar construction-disaster shows. I love fail!construction shows.

Historic achievement unlocked: first structure taller than one story high built by Africans.
Ponte City Apartments/Tower in Jo’burg, built in 1975, would like a word…
Oh, wait, never mind…
Oh I see what you did there 😄
I just felt some serious Mohamed Atta energy.
If a white architect wanted to build anything in NYC he would likely get rejected.
But we know that no government institution can say “no” to anything with the name “black” or “diversity” on it.
Shrewd move …
Nonsense. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture designed the Central Park Tower, completed in July 2021. All three of its partners are white men. You're right.
Didn't see you a few days. Got worried.
I was banned again, obviously.
I was dying to hear your take on Elizabeth Holmes.
What is there to say?
She lied, got pumped up by feminist-friendly media, who didn't accept any of the blame for treating her like the second coming of Christ.
It's rather interesting who was involved in it all, Mattis being there makes me wonder about a lot of things. Did he get a cut of what Holmes made? Was he the More Feminine Way's plant in Trump's military?

It's like they held a competition to design the most unsafe looking building they could. come up with.
Designed by Stuart Smalley~
All jokes aside, I've worked on buildings in Jersey City, which used to be swamps and landfill. NYC I can't even imagine since the whole island is sinking.

Interesting... But then, it does make logical sense, given that is how trees, icebergs, and arguably rocks and mountains arguably ALL work*...
Sort of. I realise it is more complicated than that, but at least on the first two... That is literally how the big ones work...
So physics dictates that "big buildings" would likely follow the same principles, I suppose... shrug
Do you mean that the whole columns fell in? And there is not any kind of survey done when a 50st column disappears during a build? What??
It has a tinge of 80s glass and steel on the top 3 sections of windows overlooking the water, which means I want to like that part, but it's just a tinge and that's not enough to forgive sheer fucking ugly hubris in the design. It looks like it's predicting it's own fate by being the wrong way up.
"Affirmation Tower" really. So at some point it will affirm the inferiority of choosing people based on their diversity alone.
Why is this commemorated?
That's nice, just make sure you don't have anything near it that can get damaged when the chinesium cables break
why not design something beautiful
Beauty is white supremacy dontcha know?
If this actually gets built…
The glitch in the simulation is so big, now, that the program should be thrown out. This whole proposal, and idea, is insane…
Nah it'll just fall over. The equation will be balanced. Unlike this building.
Is the 1663 ft height somehow "symbolic", does anyone know..?
I fucking bet you it is, given everything else we now know about this giant turd...
It's far too specific not to be...
wow... thats a wierd coincidence... thats the same number of asians who were assaulted this year....
Can anyone explain how the top looking like its roughly double the size of the base isnt an immensly DANGEROUS idea and that anyone who seriously designed this shouldnt be sent directly to gay jail?
This guy seems to know what he's talking about.
The designer should still be sent to gay jail.
I saw this in another thread and thought it was a joke.
