That is a thousand times worse then I was expecting, and I had some pretty low expectations.
I never understood why people who were into video games or anime were always so desperate for Hollywood to adapt what they loved into a live-action movie.
Growing up my friends were always like “Wouldn’t it be awesome if they made a Zelda or Metal Gear Solid movie”, and I was always like, fuck no. Who wants to see what some Hollywood hack (who probably thinks it’s stupid) mangles the game you love into?
There was a time back in the late 80s and early 90s where the now conventional wisdom didn't exist, of live action adaptations being universally shit. Most of the consoomers that buy into this shit grew up in that era.
To be fair, even though the live-action stuff was goofy or cheesy at times, it was at least entertaining and sincere, like Masters of the Universe, The Punisher, and Judge Dredd.
Or Dredd, which is actually a good movie.
Just keep Kojima away from the production or you'll end up with a 15 hour documentary spliced with real-life historical footage from Vietnam, a young genetically modified super-soldier's coming of age story, a romantic subplot that takes place entirely over the radio, and nanomachines son.
Don’t forget the otherwise attractive love interest having body deforming scars and injuries while also having a weirdly plane backstory.
Does that happen? I just see paid shills and ideologues who pretend to praise it for political purposes.
Yeah, it used to happen, but now these modern adaptations are almost universally reviled and rejected except for those access media shills.
I think Silent Hill was the best one.

Dunno what's weirder, Jet Black being black (which is kinda funny actually considering the name) or seeing Jet actually getting off his ass to participate in the bounty hunts. Let's be real, he kinda did fuck all for most of the anime.
Also remember, Spike is supposed to be 27 years old. 27.
Oh Jesus Christ.
Why does it look so cheap and shitty?
Why would you take one of the most realized and perfect shows ever made--that had already in every single way represented itself perfectly and still holds up 25 years later?
And if you absolutely HAD to do it, why do this?
It's Ghost in the Shell all over again. If the anime is perfect as is, a live adaptation will never equal, much less top, it. Largely because it's already a visual moving representation of itself. If it was meant to be live action it would have been live action.
Netflix
Ghost in the Shell could have a really great adaptation, if they stuck to the source material better and weren't all awkward with the race casting. Some good CGI in that film, even if the rest was a disappointment.
Stunning and Brave. I hope I never hear anyone say that un ironically. I wouldn’t stop laughing
No, I don't want to.
No you don't. Learn from my mistake and never speak or think about this travesty again.
Harold and Kumar go to Mac's Diner.
O wow, what the fuck are they thinking. Even if you do not care about Cowboy Bebop this looks horrible.
I saw this a week or so ago. It was way worse than I ever though possible. I was sincerely blown away at how awful it turned out.
The acting alone made it beyond cringe to a level I didn't even think was possible.
It's a real shame, too. Cowboy Bebop has a cherished place in my heart and ranks among my favorite animes of all time. As much as I knew it would be shit, I was still hoping maybe it would be tolerable and renew interest in the anime for a new generation — or even gain such popularity as to inspire a new prequel or spin-off anime. Upon seeing this, it exponentially exceeded my expectations for how shitty I thought it would be — by a lot.
The casting and costumes are damn terrible, the sets, look like shit, the dialogue is cringe as hell — literally everything is just really, really, bad.
I don't really bother expressing these sentiments publicly at other places, because why bother? People are just going to assume that I wanted it to fail to begin with. While I certainly never wanted it made — I would have settled for a full animated aesthetic update with no real changes because it was already near perfect — I'm not so myopic that I would hope something I love would fail. But I immediately knew shit was going to turn bad when they began the usual struggle session marxist bullshit with casting and what not. The whole "eVeRytHiNg hAs tO bE diVerSe aNd nOn-oFfeNsiVe tO aCtiVist GrOuPs!" immediately told me pretty much everything I needed to know.
All of their casting decisions were pure trash as well. Spike is in his late 20's and yet they cast an asian dude who's almost 50? Black Jet lulll, and an ugly feminist Faye?
Yeah, no thanks.
Anyway, I could rant about this shit forever because it seriously pisses me off. But I'll just go about my life and pretend that like most shit that gets completely butchered when Hollywood touches it, I'll simply pretend it doesn't exist.
A very minor nitpick, but I don’t think Spike would be so excited about getting noodles. He pretty consistently tries to get meat whenever he can- bell peppers and beef, lobster stew, hot dog etc. He even complains about having to eat noodles in the movie. It just seems to miss a bit of the character to have him stopping for noodles, and more of them trying to stress “See! It’s Japanese! There’s noodles!!” when that was never a core element of the original.
Nah, I’m good.
This was one of the most painful things I've ever watched. Jesus fucking Christ.
Western culture ended around 2005, that is all.
My face the entire time.
Netflix by now has done more than enough to be prosecuted because of crimes against Humanity. Just like this trailer, never mind the show.
Are they aware they could have simply commissioned a new animated film or side season? You know, instead of wiping their asses on an established classic?
Just so I'm clear, this is a worse abomination then DragaonBallZ Evolution.
Harold of Kumar fame is a tool. At least Kumar is funny.
LOOK AT IT
I aint watching it because they toned down Faye's outfit. Plus the actress seems like a bitch.
Hilarious
Cool lighting trick but the actress playing Faye is overdoing it and doesn't look right. Neither does Spike actually. Doesn't look great. Kind of corny, might be mindless fun. Vicious (didn't get that far in series?) looks like he might also be miscast/bad costume. For those more heartfelt moments I think I'll be cracking up with the actor's face who plays Spike.
