Even if Indy already had a whole weekend, it was SUPPOSED to be a big ticket franchise, while Sound of Freedom was a goddamn unknown in comparison. A holiday right after its opening weekend should have been a major day of sales. This is pathetic for something coming from Disney and Lucasfilm.
My ability to care begins and ends at "is taxpayer money funding it in any way whatsoever?" Abortion wouldn't be necessary if we were a country of responsible people, and goddammit, I refuse to fund other people's irresponsibility.
Another thing you have to consider when entering that ring: if you want to be taken seriously, you are obligated to put in serious effort in partaking in a significant range of the media of choice, whether you think it'll be good or not. As I said, these people do it for a living, they've got a lot more time as media critics to do all that crap, while a guy like me is a full-time laborer who tends to only get a couple of hours per day and mostly ends up in repetitive grinds with the same games. Even if people around here might WANT to, they may already have enough responsibilities on their plate.
"Muh hard working families" is the attitude of someone that truly believes they are entitled to your money. You see this all the time with HORRIBLE VIDEO GAMES. But it's not the boycotters hurting "muh hard workers and their families," it's the dumbasses that put them in the situation by pissing off most of the consumers, like you, Mr. CEO.
You're better off comparing with Pokemon. You capture and make a party of demons with various skills. As far as the Persona vs. SMT difference:
SMT: 1 hero, who is an active battler himself, and a party of captured Demons.
Persona: A party of allies, each with one Demon/Persona bound to them, which (after Persona 3) grow in strength as you deepen your bond with your allies. The main hero is a "Wild Card-" while they do have a default Persona, they are able to switch their Persona in battle. In 3 and 4, demons can be more of an item drop, but 5 brought back SMT's negotiating system since the enemies were the Demons themselves rather than generic Shadows in 3 and 4.
Even EU novels' worst stories were at least respectful to the franchise. I never read New Jedi Order, but it's hard to imagine getting worse than I, Jedi (and I read that because it was a solo adventure of one of my favorite EU heroes).
