Even if Indy already had a whole weekend, it was SUPPOSED to be a big ticket franchise, while Sound of Freedom was a goddamn unknown in comparison. A holiday right after its opening weekend should have been a major day of sales. This is pathetic for something coming from Disney and Lucasfilm.
Franchise fatigue of IPs that were thought impossible a decade ago, yet all it took was feminism to kill each one for millions of the core demographic while bringing in tens of women.
Harrison Ford was too old to play the lead in an action film when Crystal Skull came out 15 years ago. Now it’s just pathetic. He’s aging as gracefully as Pedo Joe.
Franchise fatigue is crap. If the studio makes a great movie then there will be great ticket sales.
"The Eternals" didn't do badly because people were tired.of cape shit, I'd did poorly because the script was terrible and the visual look muddy and dull.
If "The Incredibles" was released today, it would still do just fine, thanks.
The idea has persisted in Hollywood that there are some franchises so loved, with such a stron brand that the studio can shit out any movie at all and the box office will be amazing.
It turns out that brands have value and that damaging a brand enough can kill it.
These movies have been written by committee and reshot endlessly. The studio executived are so out of touch with the audience that they have no idea that their movie stinks until the test screening.
Movie executives honestly think that Fleabag is a brilliant writer and actor that the audience will love. The idea of Fleabag dunking on old, white Ford gives them tingles in their pants.
I suspect they the studio system is in decline. I don't think they Disney can be fixed. Perhaps Warner Bros can find relevance, but IMNSHO the days of the 300 million dollar movie are coming out a close.

To be fair, Indy was dead as of Crystal Skull.
