"And the Oscar goes to ... inclusion." Starting in 2024, movies will need to meet specific inclusion standards in order to be eligible for the best picture Oscar. (archive.is)

the academy believes the requirements provide a road map for how the industry can ensure that at least those films that compete for its highest honor reflect the diversity of the moviegoing audience and the wider world.

“The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them,”

And off the globalist mask slips.

Whites are a minority globally, when you throw in Bollywood and Chinese films (plus Japanese & all the other non-white countries with a strong film industry) there's a good chances whites would be an underrepresented group. ;)

And who ever said the different stripes of Asians are all monolithic and like one another as far as THAT goes? Are Han supremacists going to want to watch Bollywood movies full of the India race of Asian? Are Bollywood fans going to want to watch Han supremacist movies that would put the most rah-rah Murica John Wayne flick to shame?

As a non-American, I don't give two shits, the Oscars are mainly for Hollywood and American films, who cares if not represented? No one watches them for "representation" anyways.

Most Americans don't care about the Oscars either. Their ratings have been consistently slipping over the past decades. Because there are other things to watch now with the prevalence of cable and streaming services.

Also the Oscars are literally just an industry awards function and this has become clearer and clearer over the years. They used to throw in some popcorn flicks to the top categories just to get people to watch the show. Not anymore though.

It was always a circle jerk of hollywood elite but now they don't have the decency to do the circle jerking under the table

Yeah, even the red carpet is usually quite boring, most of the time I'm thinking "Who are these people?", but maybe it's the channel that does the transmission that interviews these people.

Straight hwhite men are an underepresented demographic in film and television globally.

But that's okay because ____.

Those standards require one of the following: at least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group

What's the definition of "significant"? What determines if a racial or ethnic group is "underrepresented"?

I know of one ethnic group that is overrepresented. I wonder if any adjustments will be made to decrease their representation...

I bet every ethnic group but one is overrepresented.

There's also one sexuality that is vastly overrepresented too (at least in TV, not sure about movies but I'm willing to bet it is)

I was just thinking LBGTQ+ in general, but yeah. Pretty much every TV show has to have a homosexual main (or at least large supporting) character these days, despite being <5% of the population.

I do not give 2 cents about the Oscars but I assume this is going to be the new norm for most movies going forward. From what I gather reading this, it is perfectly fine to make a movie 100% black people or 100% middle easterners but you are not allowed to make a movie 100% white or even 80% white. So going forward we will see more black washing of historical themed movies set in Europe or ww movies etc as there is no exception for authenticity.
You are also allowed to make a 100% main cast female but not allowed to make a 100% main cast male.

The Academy Awards are just a big racket anyway.

  1. Movie is made

  2. Members of the academy nominate movies they worked on.

  3. Movie does better than it otherwise would because it's advertised as an Oscar nominee.

  4. Members of the academy vote for movies they worked on

  5. Movie wins the award

  6. Movie receives a greater boost for being an Oscar winner

Hey at least holocaust films will have to show someone other than Jews getting shafted by the Nazis.

Progress.

People don't give a shit about the Oscars due to what they've become, but you're right, it was by design. They want every major social institution abolished into obscurity so that "western culture" doesn't properly exist any more, since all of its highest institutions will be made irrelevant.

The institutions will eventually be occupied by someone. This globalist utopia won't last. The Grammys were occupied by Black and Latino America, I guess the Oscars will be the same.

Really the only useful function of the Oscars is that the ceremony stops a bunch of Hollywood pedophiles raping children for a few hours. It doesn't matter if the movies are actually good or just woke garbage. Cast whoever you want, there's enough unpozzed literature to last anyone a lifetime.

You think companies still care about the bottom line? From all appearances, they are ready to set their own buildings on fire for the CCP and BLM.

I think its been obvious for a while now that either A) they don't care and are willing to chase clout or B) they are getting better funding from someone else that makes this more profitable.

I'll take endless Fast and Furious and Transformers movies just as long Hollywood stays the fuck out of my anime and video games. Then again, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there won't BE a Hollywood when this is all said and done.

'Member when Hurt Locker winning was a huge controversy over beating Avatar? A movie so fake Vets rountinely called it out, barely ran at any theaters and was the perfect storm of shitty drama called "Oscar Bait" beating out (at the time) one of the biggest movies ever that was breaking records and beloved by most of the world?

I do, seems people after that forgot what a sham the Oscars were and went back to caring.

I won't disagree with that. But in every term of "Best Movie" it meets every category of popularity, critical acclaim, and sheer money making possible.

Its a stark representation that the entire Oscars is jerking off shitty overdramatic films and has no representation on the reality of the movies anyone will see.

All because the mediocre director had a vagina. Renner was pre-Hawkeye so nobody knew who he was, they had to get Colin Farrell to talk about him because he starred in SWAT which Renner had a forgettable role in.
