At this point I'm just morbidly curious to see how far they'll go to shit on Tolkien's legacy. It's going to make Rings of Power look like the original trilogy in comparison.
I mean I wouldn’t like it. It definitely will be ignored by me. Netflix deserves it because they have a track record of butchering source material. Let people express displeasure. Netflix deserves every bit of this
Yeah everyone here is doing a great job ignoring it by bitching about it lol
I’m sure Netflix is sooo upset that a thread is being made on a podunk website where 50 people who never were going to watch the movie anyway complain about it. They “deserve” it I guess
Eh. Fans can be passionate. I mean you are right that it’s best to ignore it but fans can express frustration with a growing trend of crappy adaptations. Then why are you in this podunk group? I miss 90s and early 00s fan forums. This is as close as I can get.
But its bot even made yet. Your entertainment, seemingly, is the current books and movies. Those aren’t ruined by other people making different versions. It’s easy to just ignore them and keep liking the ones that are available
I mean, maybe, but how does this compare to the a hypothetical remake?
It feels more like the original works are the wedding cake, and bad remakes are a steaming pile of shit a week later. After all, any new movie is being made years later, so there’s no reason you have to put them next to each other.
The wedding cake existed, and was delicious. You even took some home and put it in the freezer and you can enjoy it later. A week later you see a steaming pile of shit. Now, realistically, what do you do?
A - Complain about the presence of the shit, and declare that the delicious wedding cake you had a week ago is now ruined because someone took a big steaming pile of shit on a plate and offered it to you to eat today
B - Say “gross,” and turn to go eat something else.
Me, personally, I’d choose B. A lot less stress in the soul over something unnecessary
Frankly, though, if anything, the wedding cake looks a lot more appetizing now.
Seems like having DC Comics and Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and Looney Tunes should be enough to be a profitable entertainment company so you don't get bought out.
But I have control over what i choose to watch. Untempted by any amount of advertising or marketing or even making it free. I RejectFlix Of NetFlix where Executives are Feckless Trannies and Dykes, Faggots and Kikes. And When we Return To The Reich They will all be Descending the Pikes
Starve the beast. Cancel Netflix and any streaming services they've assimilated into the collective. I haven't had a Netflix subscription for years. Fully expect I'll have to cancel HBO Max in a few weeks.
Also start yelling at your senators and representatives that they need to have the FTC break up these media conglomerates. It's a vain hope but it'll make Netflix and Larry Ellison spend even more money bribing corrupt government goons.
No. Amazon doesn't have the rights to LOTR itself. They only have the rights to the appendices, and they got them directly from the Tolkien estate since WB already had the rights to the rest of it.
So now we get to have a double dose of cringe to laugh at.
RANGz RANGZ gimme all dem rangz - one nigga to rule dem all and one nigga to find em, one nigga to take dem in da darkness and bind em, I say lawdy lawdy gimme all dem rangz
No, but adaptations today have little to no respect for what they are adapting. When showrunners talk about the importance of diversity or “reflecting the world we live in” instead of what they are actually adapting it shows priorities. Granted I won’t watch and I honestly rarely watch or read anything made after 2014. No interest in a lot of modern content. Like with Star Wars, I love the EU books and comics and have many I still need to read but I still wish Disney didn’t own Star Wars. Doesn’t invalidate what came before but I still don’t like it. Two things can be true
A shitty adaptation takes nothing away from the original works. Shakespeare was written for all male theater performers. Adaptations are made not as some sort of “importance” thing, but just as a new retelling.
The book is great. The original movie is great. If you ask me there’s not really any reason for someone to try and just make the movie again. If someone wants to make another version where there is a new element, then great. If it’s shitty, oh well. I don’t have to watch it, you don’t have to watch it. What’s the use of complaining?
Yes, I learned that about Shakespeare in elementary school. Didn’t need you to teach me a history lesson, but thanks I guess. But an adaptation is taking the author’s vision and putting it on screen or a different medium. Can’t do a one for one adaption but I can respect the effort. But as I mentioned before I am happy watching like 95% older content. There is so much out there I have never seen. I don’t see a problem if people want to complain. Would you be chiming in if they were being super positive? Yes there are bigger things going on in the world but fans will be fans. I used to complain about Disney star wars until I realized nothing would change and I can consume pre Disney stuff. Also cancelled d plus. That taught me these companies will do what they want and don’t care about fans but I can always consume older stuff
I'm not trying to teach you anything, obviously I figured you were smart enough to have known that already. I'm giving an example of how adaptations have continued and will continue for centuries.
I just think it's funny that oftentimes this sub is just people finding things to complain about. I love Lord of the Rings. I'm watching it with my pals at the end of the month. Gonna read the book as well. I would never know about this or even think about this because I'm content with the old material as well.
Positivity is, as a whole, a good reaction. Negativity, literally, worsens health and outlook.
I’m personally not going to be positive about people who own the IP screwing it up but I say it’s best to ignore. People are free to express opinions positive or negative. I love the LOTR books. I mean if you just want to hear people talk about how every new show or movie is the best thing ever there are shill sites.
Yes. I’m aware but I can’t blame someone for being annoyed with current trends. As I have said I rarely watch anything made after 2014 since I don’t care for current year programming. Much easier that way.
It doesn’t lol. The original still exists. I am watching the original trilogies at the end of the month with a bunch of old friends. Doing an all day marathon, making food. That day I won’t even think about any potential remake or how good or bad it might be. I’ll just comfortably enjoy the movies we have.
They haven’t supplanted anything. My niece is currrently reading the Jackson books and has never heard of the films, because they aren’t as good as the books.
You hold too much weight in things that you don’t enjoy, when youcan, just like everyone else can and does, decide not to consume that media and enjoy what you currently have.
They haven’t supplanted anything. My niece is currrently reading the Jackson books and has never heard of the films, because they aren’t as good as the books.
Ahh yes, the Jackson books... No comment
You hold too much weight in things that you don’t enjoy, when youcan, just like everyone else can and does, decide not to consume that media and enjoy what you currently have.
Ahh yes, the individualist solution of just ignoring attacks on our culture while letting them gain power rather than impaling them and their children.
Horrors beyond comprehension.
At this point I'm just morbidly curious to see how far they'll go to shit on Tolkien's legacy. It's going to make Rings of Power look like the original trilogy in comparison.
“Horrors beyond comprehension” it’s not that serious mate
That's called being facetious, not sure how you took it so serious.
He claims to not be a troll but he seems to always have some sort of commentary like this
And yet, everyone here seems to act like it’s the end of the world for a network to do a shitty remake.
Just let it get made and ignore it. Life isn’t worth getting all broken up about a movie franchise
Look at OP’s post. Look at the other comments. People are already preparing reactions to how much they won’t like it.
I mean I wouldn’t like it. It definitely will be ignored by me. Netflix deserves it because they have a track record of butchering source material. Let people express displeasure. Netflix deserves every bit of this

I enjoy hanging out in the podunk groups
Some people don’t like their hobby/entertainment being ruined.
But its bot even made yet. Your entertainment, seemingly, is the current books and movies. Those aren’t ruined by other people making different versions. It’s easy to just ignore them and keep liking the ones that are available
The defilement of one of the greatest stories ever told by humans is in fact serious.
The original story still exists. The book still exists. The movie still exists. Someone telling it poorly never takes away from that
Of course it does. That's the whole point, and that's why you're defending it.
How does it take away from it? Will you enjoy the current book less knowing that a bad retelling exists?
Does a wedding cake get less appetizing when it's next to a steaming pile of shit?
Of course it does.
You know it does. That's why you're defending the defilement. Liberals lie like breathing. If you're talking, you're lying.
I mean, maybe, but how does this compare to the a hypothetical remake?

Pretty much. Don't understand why folks get chronically upset with every reboot, remake, restart, reset, replay, refresh, reload...
The media industry being creatively bankrupt and agenda-driven doesn't mean much. Just consume older material if you really have to.
I get that. I started just consuming older stuff a few years back when I realized the modern day slop will continue for the most part
Exactly
In the same manner that it's not worth getting disappointed over the retards and autists that also fill up niche forums like this.
Lol I'm not disappointed, just entertained.
Seems like having DC Comics and Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and Looney Tunes should be enough to be a profitable entertainment company so you don't get bought out.
WB is uniquely retarded in a way that simple woke or malicious intent does not cover and they have been for quite some time.
Yeah. Their problem was acting like a teenage girl who just stole daddy's credit card and didn't think they would ever have to pay it back.
WB is the debt whore of every company out there. Anyone buying WB loads off their debt on to it before selling it to the next client
Haha
But I have control over what i choose to watch. Untempted by any amount of advertising or marketing or even making it free. I RejectFlix Of NetFlix where Executives are Feckless Trannies and Dykes, Faggots and Kikes. And When we Return To The Reich They will all be Descending the Pikes
This is true. AND we already have existing films that were good, so it’s not like they’re taking those away.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_German_films_of_1933%E2%80%931945
can you help me find downloads for some of these?
We should use AI to translate classic nazi german films to English. Sounds like a better idea than bitching about GayFlix.
Lord of the Rings? I thought WB had Harry Potter?
Both.
Oh great they can do a crossover.
You're a Nazgûl, Harry!
Master gives Smeagol a sock. Smeagol is free!
"He gave 9 rings to the muggles, because they sucked and everyone else had something cool. So that made him the good guy actually."
And all the DC characters, though I doubt Netflix can do anything worse to those than DC has already done.
I'll never forgot how quickly they went from "fuck marvel!" To "stop bullying us!". Of all the mega crossover attempts it was easily the worst.
I'm not going to lie: Non-Binary Sovereign of the Traditional Tool of Patriarchal Oppression: The Return of the Proletariat Comrades
Is gonna slap.
Starve the beast. Cancel Netflix and any streaming services they've assimilated into the collective. I haven't had a Netflix subscription for years. Fully expect I'll have to cancel HBO Max in a few weeks.

Wait a min - does this mean Rangs o' Powuh is dead? Given that Amazon made it?
No. Amazon doesn't have the rights to LOTR itself. They only have the rights to the appendices, and they got them directly from the Tolkien estate since WB already had the rights to the rest of it.
So now we get to have a double dose of cringe to laugh at.
And nothing will stop me from re-reading the books, instead.
And only watching stuff I acquire by sailing the high seas guarantees I won't see any of the drek this will inevitably produce.
RANGz RANGZ gimme all dem rangz - one nigga to rule dem all and one nigga to find em, one nigga to take dem in da darkness and bind em, I say lawdy lawdy gimme all dem rangz
inb4 bilbo baggins, the famous burglar, is black
Bilbo Baggy Pants? Bilbo Dime Baggins?
WE WUZ KANGS N SHEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIT Y'ALL
Honestly, is it going to be worst than Rings of Power?
And?
It’s not like if they make a remake it invalidates the original.
No, but adaptations today have little to no respect for what they are adapting. The IP isn’t screwed up lol. The original source material will always exist. Nobody is rewriting the originals.
Yes. I’m aware but I can’t blame someone for being annoyed with current trends. As I have said I rarely watch anything made after 2014 since I don’t care for current year programming. Much easier that way.

You're retarded and only live in the moment, you have no ability to foresee negative future consequence.
Just as the Jackson films supplanted the original books the netlfix films will supplant the jackson films

lol I misread this. I assumed you were talking about Percy Jackson.
A bad retelling isn't an attack on your culture dude lol. You're a fucking baby
It absolutely is and you belong in a mass grave.
Sad
'Frodo and Samwise were always black lesbians.'
If they want to lose another billion dollars, honestly I'm all for it. Please make 100 more Ring of Power.
