No, but adaptations today have little to no respect for what they are adapting. When showrunners talk about the importance of diversity or “reflecting the world we live in” instead of what they are actually adapting it shows priorities. Granted I won’t watch and I honestly rarely watch or read anything made after 2014. No interest in a lot of modern content. Like with Star Wars, I love the EU books and comics and have many I still need to read but I still wish Disney didn’t own Star Wars. Doesn’t invalidate what came before but I still don’t like it. Two things can be true
A shitty adaptation takes nothing away from the original works. Shakespeare was written for all male theater performers. Adaptations are made not as some sort of “importance” thing, but just as a new retelling.
The book is great. The original movie is great. If you ask me there’s not really any reason for someone to try and just make the movie again. If someone wants to make another version where there is a new element, then great. If it’s shitty, oh well. I don’t have to watch it, you don’t have to watch it. What’s the use of complaining?
Yes, I learned that about Shakespeare in elementary school. Didn’t need you to teach me a history lesson, but thanks I guess. But an adaptation is taking the author’s vision and putting it on screen or a different medium. Can’t do a one for one adaption but I can respect the effort. But as I mentioned before I am happy watching like 95% older content. There is so much out there I have never seen. I don’t see a problem if people want to complain. Would you be chiming in if they were being super positive? Yes there are bigger things going on in the world but fans will be fans. I used to complain about Disney star wars until I realized nothing would change and I can consume pre Disney stuff. Also cancelled d plus. That taught me these companies will do what they want and don’t care about fans but I can always consume older stuff
I'm not trying to teach you anything, obviously I figured you were smart enough to have known that already. I'm giving an example of how adaptations have continued and will continue for centuries.
I just think it's funny that oftentimes this sub is just people finding things to complain about. I love Lord of the Rings. I'm watching it with my pals at the end of the month. Gonna read the book as well. I would never know about this or even think about this because I'm content with the old material as well.
Positivity is, as a whole, a good reaction. Negativity, literally, worsens health and outlook.
It doesn’t lol. The original still exists. I am watching the original trilogies at the end of the month with a bunch of old friends. Doing an all day marathon, making food. That day I won’t even think about any potential remake or how good or bad it might be. I’ll just comfortably enjoy the movies we have.
They haven’t supplanted anything. My niece is currrently reading the Jackson books and has never heard of the films, because they aren’t as good as the books.
You hold too much weight in things that you don’t enjoy, when youcan, just like everyone else can and does, decide not to consume that media and enjoy what you currently have.
And?
It’s not like if they make a remake it invalidates the original.

It pretty much does though...

You're retarded and only live in the moment, you have no ability to foresee negative future consequence.
Just as the Jackson films supplanted the original books the netlfix films will supplant the jackson films
