People here will never be happy enough. This is a great change.

Would I prefer it went further and yeeted every jeet in the tech industry? Sure. Do I want him to change policy on lots of other things too? Also yes.

But goddamn guys, this will cause a huge reduction in foreign workers stealing high paying jobs for pennies. So just be happy and take the win for once.

I will withhold celebration until such time as that huge reduction materializes and I think that's a perfectly reasonable stance to hold given the nature of politicians and the governmental machine's track record.

I'm waiting until Judge Boasberg rules the EO unconstitutional and then SCOTUS rules it's constitutional 5-4.

I'm personally Happy, but that's like saying hey 65% of the cancer is gone! Sure there's still 45% cancer in you but be happy!

I get your point, I agree, but also hiring brain dead 85 iq jeets with fake degrees over Americans with degrees is fucking retarded lol.

That math ain't mathing.

This is a good thing. And if the wording is true this applies to renewals as well, which would mean all the current H-1B's will have to be covered when they expire. Most companies cannot afford it and will have to cancel.

Hahaha totally wasn't paying attention with the 35% lol.

Most companies cannot afford it and will have to cancel.

Which is great! my worry is thay companies that have the largest influence and impact on your life will still pay that all day every day without making a dent.

One point -- My original worry back when silicon valley decided to go on a foreign hiring spree was that (especially with America being more cohesive at that time) it's alot easier to tell a foreigner to do/ code nonAmerican/ anti American things.

His math is fine. Cancer doesn't play fair. It's either 110% cancer, or no cancer.

Unless you were born between June 21 and July 22. Then you're just 100% cancer to everyone around you, especially Aries and Sagittarius.

Companies sponsor the visa anyways.

And guess what? They can write off visa expenses on their taxes.

And guess what. This is a one time fee.

How long do you think h1b’s stay in the USA? Forever.

What’s more expensive. Paying a native born citizen a living wage? Or .. Paying a third world pajeet 30% of the native born’s salary forever?

Fucking smooth brain argument.

People here will never be happy enough.

Yea. I pay taxes. If the government decided they have taken "enough" taxes from me and suddenly stopped, I might give them a break, but as long as they're in my pocket they OWE ME.

this will cause a huge reduction in foreign workers

I'll believe it when I see it.

So just be happy and take the win for once.

So just go get a juice box and stay out of our way.

It's a massive increase and if it goes into effect I think it'll have a huge impact. Employers aren't allowed to have the employee cover the visa fees, (except for the premium processing fee which is optional).

H-1B's job hop like crazy and investing $100k on top of the employee's salary is a huge investment investment to make on someone who can leave 3 months later. Although I suppose job hopping would happen less because the new employer would also have to pay $100k.

Still, this isn't a small change. Yeah I'd like it to be a million dollars but $100k is enough to mean something at least.

If you can't find qualified American's then train them. What would that cost?

This "fee based" strategy just creates yet another bypass around the American citizen. I can't trust that they won't just find some workaround to it and leave us right where we started.

An American kid with on the job training is definitely better than a foreigner with no cultural attachments.

Salt's flowing over on /r/h1b/ but they're already pointing out waivers and loopholes in the executive order.

Might check in on Elon's twatter feed a bit later tonight as I expect he's going to splurg out like he did back in December.

ChatGPT helps them with this immensely.

They were here with false qualifications and exam cheating for decades. AI is only going to make it worse. Great step to shutting it down

Then when they get here they only employ other useless indians. 100% of h1b managers I’ve seen are racist against hiring whites.

A) Raise the fee.

B) Raise the minimum wage of H1Bs. They were designed to be filling jobs of extremely niche fields that genuinely might not have American's available that are trained for them in sufficient quantities. Very high paying fields. Such as specialists in medicine. Force them to pay even higher wages to these individuals than it would cost to hire an American, and it will cause H1Bs to evaporate like water.

It's funny that they use their money to influence universities on isreal but they somehow can't get degree programs to make the workers they need off the ground.

This is bullshit. If you can't find American's then move your business to where your favorite workers are. You don't get to run business in the land of the free if you're too weak to manage that business in the long term.

They destroy shit on purpose to make an excuse to do it worse and charge more. Fuck all that.

Nowhere near high enough and far too rigid. Force these companies to pay these new age slaves two or three times the salary they advertised it in the home country too. If we so desperately need these jobs that no domestic worker can perform, then no price is too great.

It could be a billion. As long as none of that money comes back to the American people whose jobs are being replaced, I don't fucking care.

Although, to be fair, if the cost goes high enough, it's essentially abolishing the system as a whole. So this is definitely a step in the right direction.

As if we should have sent Wernher von Braun to the Russians cause he was a filthy German.

Somewhere in the $100k - $1 million fee range we'll augmenting rather than replacing.

We should be poaching the best and brightest and rejecting the street shitters. I don't get why it's so hard for people, left or right, to understand that some particular immigrants are good for us while others are bad.

– fauxgnaws 1 point 276 days ago +1 / -0

lol what? Somebody else, an American, was going to do that job if we didn't get him. It's not like we weren't going to have a rocket program. Just not as well.

The point of H1B is to import people when we don't have Americans that can do the job. They can't be taking somebody's job if there's nobody here that can do it.

The program isn't run that way, instead we're getting Indians replacing Americans, but that's the purpose of it. Putting a high fee on it means businesses won't be saving money replacing Americans and only use the program for people who are adding to the country not replacing - great idea.

I'm saying, raising the price of H-1Bs is good, but it's still just legalized bribery. The argument here is that the government wasn't getting enough of a cut when it came to selling out Americans.

If we're going to import foreigners to compete with Americans, I don't care what the cost is, if it's our masters in government pocketing that payment. It's all the same end of empire nonsense. Pay me if you're going to bring in people to compete with me. Or just, you know, don't do that shit.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– fauxgnaws 1 point 276 days ago +1 / -0

If there's a $1 million fee to get a foreigner working here, businesses will only bring in workers that provide more value than that. It's not bribery at all, it's a merit test.

Why should you get paid for doing nothing and not being qualified or skilled to do the work? If you can do the job they can't (on paper) bring the foreigner in. Unless you don't even apply for the job.
