Yep. Unfortunately no matter how much money they "lose" when you do the napkin math, if you're accepting the 10x bloated Hollywood budget figures, you're playing yourself
I don’t think that’s why the movie’s failing or bad, though that is bad. I actually heard it’s not particularly woke in that way. It’s more that it’s not really a Superman movie. He spends most of the movie getting beat up it seems. I think at one point he cries or something.
The point of DC superheroes is to have someone to look up to. Superman is about American values being enacted with unlimited power, but they didn’t even really make him very super from what I heard in the reviews, so the American values part is the least of the film’s problems. On top of all that, people say it’s just very mediocre, and James Gunn does what he usually does and made it closer to another Guardians of the Galaxy movie, only he didn’t even do that end well.
I hear it’s not even bad, it’s just entirely forgettable.
And his origin story of parents who sacrificed themselves to save their son so he can live a life where he selflessly protects those who took him in was replaced with a mandate of conquest and demographic replacement. There's still a distinct possibility that in the sequel it'll be retconned that Lex Luthor deepfaked that message to slander Superman, but the access media are all treating it as legit for now.
Superman gets beat up all the time you faggot. Yall don't actually read Superman. There are things to complain about in the movie but that isn't one of them
Blah blah blah you dont like Superman you like the post modern version of him that Snyder and his ilk present. He quite clearly held back the majority of the movie and most of it was about his internal struggle with knowing he was doing the right thing. Superman gets his ass kicked alot but always wins. That's one of the core parts of his character. This idea that he's some all powerful god that never struggles in a fight is new. It's why he used to randomly come up with goofy ass new powers. He fought himself with Luthor's brain and held back until the population wasnt threatened and he was sure he wasnt doing the wrong thing out of hubris. Synder should be drummed out of the industry for the damage he's done to Superman
The amount of cope around this film is hilarious. "It doesn't need to break even: it's just stage-setting!" "Marvel has way more riding on Fantastic 4 than DC has on this film about their central character!"
Zach Snyder's Man of Steel was the worst Superman film ever made. If your movie can't even outdo that at the box office, it's just a failure.
I find it hilarious that this board is split on the Snyderverse movies. I think a lot of people like how sincere they are, especially compared to the Whedon Justice League abomination that caused all the drama. Meanwhile I think Snyder, in some respects, has the creative process of a 7th grader.
At least everyone can probably agree that Henry Cavill is made for the role of Superman.
That's the thing -- Henry Cavill looked and acted every bit what people wanted from Superman, but Snyder can't write his way out of a burning pram, and completely ruined the character at every turn.
I WANTED to like the Snyderverse, but Snyder couldn't get out of the way of his own ego, and his hard-on for super-edgy Batman and the Knightmare silliness.
Might break even, but there's a lot of competition right now. Certainly not a big hit due to the weak international numbers. Which is hilarious with them changing the American way part. Don't really care about Superman that much and I'm tired of superhero movies, plus Gunn is a faggot so I'm happy to see this film. Fuck fantastic 4 too, seems like it's probably going to be in the same spot
Foreign markets LIKE Americanism. They may be ambivalent about America itself, but Americanism they're pretty much universally on-board with. Truth, Justice, The American Way, and maybe some excessive use of guns. Easy movie sale.
I have realized that since I discovered how many Japanese people love 80's action movies, or how stuff like Top Gun: Maverick preformed better than the Hollywood analyst had predicted it would overseas.
It turns out, other people like America when it actually acts like America.
Cause it's fucking awesome. I'm Canadian and all my life I've had a soft spot for America and it's patriotic and abrasive nature. Most cucks around me would win about muh rednecks and muh guns, even pre Trump I never understood it
A movie typically needs to make 2.5 to 3 times its production budget to break even, factoring in marketing and distribution costs. This is because studios don't keep the entire box office revenue; they share a significant portion with theaters and other entities.
Two super hero movies that are honestly mid. Now we have to rank these shit with how less it trashes the source material. And I confidently say that f4 was less obnoxious to watch than superjobber
Maybe stop making things with absurd budgets. $225 million used to be reserved for massive Marvel and Star Wars movies and nothing else, it’s frankly ridiculous how expensive some of these films are getting. I guarantee it would have worked well at $100 million baseline budget.
I'll probably see it because my wife loves Superman in general. The big fights I've seen are weather the previous Snyder films were better or not. No one seems to be arguing Christopher Reeves or Return of Superman. I think a lot of it is manufactured. Henry Cavill is so good that my wife likes the Witcher.
There's also the Fantastic 4 movie, which has all sorts of manufactured arguments for it. I enjoyed the comics, but I doubt anyone is willing to deal with the actual stuff like reality demons from another dimension. Also, it sounds like they want to have a gay tension.
They want to change the product, not deal with what it actually is. Then they get angry when that doesn't work.

This is exactly it, marketing companies are without a doubt paying people to boost this movie over the Snyderverse.
The most inorganic thing I saw was the attempt to say that Gunn said the movie was woke the week before it came out. Almost everything I see is memes and people making the same criticism if Snyder that they always have. Mostly because Snyder fans refuse to acknowledge that he fucked up DC
Godzilla Minus One cost $13 million to make.
That's not a typo. Thirteen million.
Hollywood CGI is money laundering.
Yep. Unfortunately no matter how much money they "lose" when you do the napkin math, if you're accepting the 10x bloated Hollywood budget figures, you're playing yourself
They can print their own money anyways
Well James, you tried your best to drum up controversy on the internet. Better luck next time.
Or maybe I'm jumping the gun and a couple more weekends will be enough to push it to the approx $700M break-even.
It might trickle to 600 million, but F4 suckass is out now so there’s actual competition
So I've paid no attention at all. What's controversial about it?
Superman says "truth, justice and peace" or some generic faggotry instead of "truth, justice, and the American way"
James Gunn and his flacks pushed the idea that Superman is an immigrant. I needn't say more

And he is being beaten up, crying, weakened and mocked.
Sounds about right, really.
And his origin story of parents who sacrificed themselves to save their son so he can live a life where he selflessly protects those who took him in was replaced with a mandate of conquest and demographic replacement. So we've come full circle and now Superman is just a copy of Goku.
Worse, Goku is now more Superman than Superman.

Does he take a knee for BLM and put his kids in a drag show to be "progressive" too?

Hulk Hogan was the most famous American athlete on Earth for a while.
Then it came crashing down and it hurt, inside.
Come, sweet death.

Capeshit is gay
Am I retarded? It says budget of 225 and has grossed over twice that with 502 intake.
I don’t watch Jew shit so I can only look at the numbers and point out discrepancies here.
Thanks
Ah damn, it made this much?
Well, still, fingers crossed it doesn't go much higher.

James "dumb fuck" Gunn. The man who doesn't know the first thing about basic storytelling.

Its like seeing a humanoid robot saying, "I too like human food. Let us go eat it, and drink Coke to wash it down."
The movie is just hands down better than anything in the Synderverse
That very well may be, but what I'm seeing doesn't look organic
