The amount of cope around this film is hilarious. "It doesn't need to break even: it's just stage-setting!" "Marvel has way more riding on Fantastic 4 than DC has on this film about their central character!"
Zach Snyder's Man of Steel was the worst Superman film ever made. If your movie can't even outdo that at the box office, it's just a failure.
I find it hilarious that this board is split on the Snyderverse movies. I think a lot of people like how sincere they are, especially compared to the Whedon Justice League abomination that caused all the drama. Meanwhile I think Snyder, in some respects, has the creative process of a 7th grader.
At least everyone can probably agree that Henry Cavill is made for the role of Superman.
That's the thing -- Henry Cavill looked and acted every bit what people wanted from Superman, but Snyder can't write his way out of a burning pram, and completely ruined the character at every turn.
I WANTED to like the Snyderverse, but Snyder couldn't get out of the way of his own ego, and his hard-on for super-edgy Batman and the Knightmare silliness.
