Yeah, sailboats hitting bridges with their mast are frankly a dime-a-dozen, and a wooden mast is going to scratch the paint and maybe bend a few bars on the truss (not even major structural damage).

I've seen pictures that there were sailors standing on the masts when it hit the bridge as part of a celebration of completing training. This is a bigger story than just "idiot hits bridge".

Well it's going backwards at a weird angle, where even if it fit under the bridge it would hit the shore. My guess is that it was adrift and did not intend to go under the bridge at all.
