Hartwell was the first Doctor. Capaldi is the 12th. With the Doctor of War that's all 13 incarnations. Anything after that is sacrilege.

Although I do remember a 6th doctor story that said his regeneration after 12 was some evil incarnation that would destroy the universe.

The Valeyard (/ˈvæliɑːd/) is a fictional character from the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. He is described by the Master as an amalgamation of the Doctor's darker sides from between his twelfth and final incarnations.

So way back in the 80s they were warning this would happen.

It was during the trial of the doctor. I am about to watch that. I've been watching it from beginning to end again the last year or so.

Honest question: What do you do with the missing episodes?

Do you read the surviving scripts, listen to the surviving audio, etc.?

I know every episode from Pertwee on is intact.

There's a collection I got from the high seas about a decade ago that had the missing episodes filled in with available screenshots from the episode, general screenshots, and in one or two cases, animation/animatics.

The audio exists for pretty much all the episodes, it's just a matter of filling in the visuals.

Was that the lot they found on reel in BBC South Africa?

I'm not sure. Possibly? It's just a huge file I still have hanging around that includes everything from Doctors 1 through 7, though most of the first and second Doctors are as I described above - audio with collected stills from old screen shots they used to do on set by simply taking a photograph of a television screen as it aired.

The "Trial of a Time Lord" arc was the best thing they could have done with Colin Baker. Much as I like him, in his first season, he just wasn't good in the role. He was too used to stage productions, so every conversation was like a monologue to an audience and every gesture was meant to be seen by the people in the back rows. It was weird, and it didn't translate well to television. The scripts for his first season were rubbish too, which didn't help.

But the writers, for "Trial of a Time Lord", decided to embrace Colin Baker's odd acting. Colin Baker can't help but monologue? Give him an in-universe audience to monologue at. He wants to gesture wildly? Have him do it at an enemy fifty feet away. His character has over-the-top bluster? Make the bluster a conscious decision, and show him thinking about subtlety and politeness before deciding to project bravery and pomposity.

Doctor Who had a lot of problems during that era, and the arc wasn't enough to save the show, long term. But it was more than enough to save the character.

I agree. I am stuck in the Rain story right now and haven't got the time to watch it through yet. The Valeyard is a great badguy and I wish we saw more of him.

I need to watch the classic who episodes with the 5th through 7th doctor. I gave up during Capaldi’s run and got sick of Bill’s character. Gave Jodie a chance and quit. Then I heard how the retconned everything

Was just reminded that one of Capaldi's episodes killed the doctor and replaced him with a 3D printed version. So everything after that is Doctor 2.0 and therfore not my doctor and some fervor dream of writers pushing the message.

That’s a good way of looking at it. Literally some of my earliest memories are of my parents watching Dr Who with the 4th Doctor which is why he is my favorite.

"Mc" is a prefix, a suffix is at the end of the word. Also "Mc" is Irish, "Mac" is Scottish.

N'Chuti is pronounced N as in Name and then ch like in choose and uti as in Unrinary Tract infection. I mean, Ootee.

Anyway, they're mispronouncing the name anyway. So why is it importan that it be mispronounced this way?

White people, the ones the communist in this picture is scolding, have been exposed to the names Schwarzenegger and Tchaikovsky much more often than they've been exposed to tribal African names.

Dumbass argument with no consistency between examples. Troll or actual retard who can't argue?

As a language English is a fucking mess when it comes to rules and what you do and what you do not pronounce. There are many languages with similar issues when it comes to silent letters and other things. German and Russian however are both far more straightforward. German literally builds words like lego, 55 is "five and five tens" - 'funf und funfzig'

Try pronouncing "Cnidaria" you dipshit, or ctenophora and any other countless Greek term used in binomial classifications. Or even names like Siobahn for that matter from other Western cultures outside of the Germanic ones.

Troll or actual retard who can't argue?

With leftoids it's a moot point. You can never tell if they're just retarded of if they're obfuscating and trying to gaslight you. See all the disingenuous questions, like "What does woke mean?" or similar stupidity.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 8 ▼

Phonetically means it would be pronounced as its literally spelled. So it would be nuh-cooty or nuh-cut-e. Probably important to make sure you are using your big words right when trying to make a point about people's failure in that ring.

Of which Schwarzenegger is in fact spoken phonetically, its just long and people know it so well it rolls out half pronounced. That's why literal children have been able to master it for years to do their impressions in grade school before being suspended for saying "negger."

The 1996 TV movie, the one with Paul McGann, is going to look a LOT better in the coming years.

Just like Disney Star Wars made people take another look at the prequels.

Nuhkooty Gatwah. There. I pronounced it the same way I'd pronounce Schwarzenegger or Tchaikovsky. Phonetically, reading each letter at a time. If those actual talented people can write their names so that the entire world can read it and pronounce it right just by sounding it out, maybe the one in the wrong is the one who insists on a name with "non-standard pronunciations".
