The Video Game Awards for 2023 (like every year) was a big nothingburger. Trailers highlighting how bad gaming has gotten worse not only with woke shit, but also the lack of gameplay in the majority of Western developed games and their trailers. It’s fucking awful.
Geoff Keighley desperately wants to become a Hollywood big shot and it’s really pathetic… But the thing is he is merely a reflection of the game industry at large and the talentless hacks who have taken over and want to make movies instead of games. Games media and Game Devs are complaining about the lack of focus on devs, and I just don’t give two shits about the plight of game devs.
They created this monster by being embarrassed of their own profession and transforming the industry into a complete and utter joke. They were all spineless cowards who allowed the woke plague to come in and ruin the industry at best, and at worst were completely complicit in the industry-wide brain drain and woke transformation of video games.
When I hear about studio layoffs, I just shrug because nothing of value was lost. When I hear about entire studios shutting down (in the West), I feel nothing, if not perhaps a satisfaction that these studios self-destructed.
I don’t care about these game devs, because I know they hate my guts and don’t actually care about video games.
The same mindset applies to the vast majority of indie games that are either made by dipshits who couldn’t make it in Hollywood and just see gaming as an alternative outlet to make movies, or woke leftists who don’t have a single creative bone in their body. The fun indie games are buried in a sea of lifeless/woke copycats and walking simulators.

the most hilarious thing is they mentioned "climate change".. yeah, the industry has been making unoptimized garbage that take 400 watt video card to run at 60fps with upscaling lol.. those 400 watts probably doesnt help with climate XD.
They all use the trash Unreal Engine 5 made by a company owned by a CCP controlled entity. CryEngine 5.6, from my testing, can look better, and have more physics going on, while running at a higher framerate, and without upscaling. Also with far less performance drop turning on RT, but nobody uses it because, I assume, Epic bribes everyone with Fortnite Bux.
Yeah. Games started to look and "feel" the same that uses unreal 4. Something about the movements. Not to mention unreal assets appearing over and over.
Unreal movement is clunky and the renderer default settings make everything look like plastic. IdTech, it's child Source, CryTek, even Bethesda games, use momentum based movement that just feels way better. I've never looked at unreals movement code but it is abrupt by default, ala UT, but without the fun dashing and stuff, and hardly anyone modifies it. Same with the render settings.
Awards shows across all industries have always been worthless shill campaigns and the fact that people desperately want video games to reach the level of Hollywood by emulating them like this is pathetic.
It really is fucking pathetic how insecure the gaming industry continues to be despite being the most profitable of all the entertainment industries.

We don't have those devs anymore, by and large though. We either have corporatists or leftists, and any actually interesting and challenging devs often end up getting hit with the cancel stick by the very shitbag devs demanding we pay attention to them.

Yeah, I never understood how people were fans of devs in the first place. Because most games are not the thing of one dev. Sure a company (or the few single indie devs) with decent track record will get me to look at their next game, but if it sucks I don't care.
I also don't care about their opinion or values about anything. Most likely they have no clue about the topics. Same with musicians or actors or other "famous" people. Just cause I like your music doesn't mean I care what you think about "X".

My favorite is the whole 'gay' art style. There are games I will see, where I think to myself "I bet this has 'LGBTQIA+' tag," and I'm usually right.
I can't wait to hear that one of the big ones goes under, like Activision Blizzard, or Ubisoft. Which is sad, because they used to make really solid games. But now I just hope they implode, as they're both cancers on the industry, and watching them die would be very satisfying.
You know what's really great about this? Gaming was already becoming the monolithic industry it now is prior to the woke bullshittery. Had they stuck by the industry. Had they held even a single ounce of pride for their work and the industry they helped build, what others thought wouldn't have mattered in the slightest when your industry is the economic powerhouse it is. But instead these people desperately cling to being accepted by another industry that is just filled with some of the biggest scumbags on the planet (that being hollywood, filled not just with political turds, but actual sex pests and pedophiles), and as a result it will NEVER be enough. Because they gave these freaks all the power. They grovelled and begged and pleaded to be accepted by the people who were an incestuous collection of filth (who themselves ended up turning even the handful that were decently talented among themselves into complete hacks). And instead of gaining respect, they became nothing more than the mocked pet.
They put themselves into a subservient position, and can't understand why they're not coming out on top. They were set to take over from Hollywood, and decided to bend the knee instead. They did this to themselves, and many don't even realise that they were even manipulated into doing it. All because they were looking for acceptance from people who are scummy to the point that everyone knows "the open secret" of Hollywood.
Fuck them. Their "plight" is nothing but a making of their own self-loathing. And if they cannot even respect themselves, why should I respect them?
I generally don't anymore. Because it's always the same story: "Evil Executive X made us implement Terrible Feature Y and that's why the game has issues!" But, the fact remains that the devs implemented it. That predatory monetization scheme? The devs coded it. Those awful facial textures? The devs included them. That awful gameplay loop? The devs implemented (or, in some cases, "didn't implement" may be more accurate) it.
If you recognize that the thing you're being asked to do will make a terrible product, then either get your project manager to grow a set of balls and tell the suits no, or (if the manager agrees with the suits) grow the balls yourself and tell him no.
"Oh, but I might get fired!" Yes, and? Playing along didn't save the jobs of the people at Luminous after the turd that was Forspoken or the people of Volition after the Woke Row reboot, or the people at Hairbrained Schemes after the rushed, unknown Lamplighter's League. And while the studios survived (for now), playing along didn't help all the people recently let go at Bioware and Creative Assembly. And those are just the ones I remember from 2023!
And on top of that, video games are an industry where it's relatively easy to have moderate (or, in some cases great) success if you do a good job and are able to budget things properly. Even ignoring the occasional massive indie breakout, there's huge numbers of moderate success stories from smaller, competent devs. Just on the RPG front (because those are the games I like the best) Larian is an obvious one as they were around for 2.5 decades before BG3 was a huge critical success for them. Obsidian and inXile both crawled out of the wreckage of Interplay. Stygian (Underrail) and Owlcat (Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous and now Rogue Trader) are two more indie RPG studios. And there's certainly more, those are just the ones that come to mind. Whether you like or dislike any of those games or any of those studios, the fact remains that those are all (or were, since Obsidian and inXile both got acquired by MS over the last few years) commercially successful studios for years without having large publishers over them.
Are you guaranteed to make it on your own? No. But if you actually want to make good games and it really is the publisher holding you back then grow some stones and either stand up to the publisher to make the AAA game good or go make your own thing.

I saw Forbes running an article about Ironmouse (vtuber) who won creator of the year and said she got 30 seconds for acceptance speech (a pre recording as ironically she was streaming it thinking she wouldn't win) and saying yet no time to address the 'worries and concerns of devs'.
False covered it here as they backtracked LIKE HELL after realising while their target was extremely popular, she's a Latina woman suffering from common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), so you got a woman who was bedridden for years, with Vtubing the only way to communicate outside her family and you use her when she's receiving an award to whine 'why aren't you focusing on these issues?', not a good look.
But it's ann example of how self important these guys think they are, if a studio goes out of business then it's whatever for me as I've seen one man projects do better, the industry has become too bloated that it deserves a trim down.
This is all very much a given and I agree with you, but what pisses me off is when the normies and right wingers both try to act like I should be sympathetic to their plight when these people really are the scum of the earth and so many of them abuse their positions to the point of blatant criminality not even just regular corruption.
No, these people should face destruction for what they've done. I'm convinced that now we know what we know about these types it's clear that the consolidation of these ridiculous power houses in the industry like EA and the deliberate destruction of any potential rivals was precisely so that they could ultimately start attempting to brainwash the young through video games by making everything woke.
