It should be pointed out that the story of Robin Hood was originally about a drunk guy who swindled his way around folks. Then the authorities got sick of it and began to tell stories about him actually being of noble birth, and falling in love with two women -separate towns had festivals in his honor and gave him a different woman to fall in love with. Almost the entire story is propaganda that the nobility is best, even when being an outlaw.
They all missed the point. They think it was robbing the rich and giving to the poor. It was actually robbing the government of tax money and returning it to those who were taxed into poverty.
Such a story is not allowed to exist in the current statist world.
That’s the thing. You can take inspiration and make a new show. Two successful examples are Everybody Hates Chris and Goldbergs which are two shows inspired by Wonder Years. So when they made a black wonder years I was like you already had two shows with that premise
The only way a modern reimagining would work, is if it were only the most minimal of reimaginings.
Modern time frame, but the person is an anti-tax "taxation is theft" type. They can even be a female hoodrat, as long as that is true.
But all the main story beats need to be there:
Robin is falsely accused of crime. Given modern era, a false rape accusation would fit nicely.
Robin comes back from prison to a much worse area than before. Self-explanatory.
Robin finds the government is corrupt through theft of his/her own stuff, and stories he/she hears from others. Maybe a "cash for guns" gone wild that repossessed property held in private residence unwillingly, or eminant domain-ing people's houses.
Robin assembles a squad to fight the government. Maybe it can be on January Sixth for the lols.
Robin holds an uprising, and kills the government officers in charge of the local area. The question arises of if they should expand their mission.
"Proper" governance comes in, and says "good work killing those corrupt government officials, that is the proper way to deal with government officials that you disagree with" and then, noting Robin's past as an elite/leader, puts him/her in charge as a reward for killing government officials.
...You know, somehow I don't think Robin Hood will ever get remade with the same story beats as the original...
That could actually be interesting. I would add in that she stumbles across a book from Sowell as well as Robin Hood. She could raise funds to rebuild destroyed businesses and work on getting jobs and encouraging nuclear family. Yes that is a pipe dream. Lol
