Heck, Robin Hood Men in Tights would be more accurate than this. And that was funny at least. This will be either lecture on sexism, racism, or both along with evil white men.
They wanted to show the real life of a hoodrat but needed to make her a Noble Black to fulfill their rich, white entitled audience. Look for her to lecture and watch over a white woman.

Strange that it never targets stories central to sexist countries and religions (eg koran or the middle east)

For a country to exist, it needs its culture. Its beliefs, folklore, it's history. This type of rewriting is about destroying that culture.
